DRG especially, I agree. But it's becoming a realllly long time at this point. And we've also seen lots of recent free agents go to teams that are surprisingly low-brow, considering the caliber of those free agents. The market place looks bad. I mean, Squirtle couldn't even find something satisfactory enough for him to keep playing the game, although it's ambiguous exactly what can be read into that.

He was much like our current Rain, but in times where going macro as Protoss wasn't as viable. But we should never forget that great GSL run and his EPIC run at IPL4, the trial of stamina. He went through Open bracket which was countless matches, then groups, then he quickly lost to Nestea in Winners bracket, to drop down in losers bracket and fight the entire way back to the finals. To then win the first bo5 and the cruelty of the tournament made it so that he had to win yet another bo5 vs Alive... Who honestly could do that?

He surely was during that IPL - GSL span (though he didn't won any of them, but that was near soO level of dominance + fail to get a title, just on a shorter period). Everyone remembers Boxer. It's sad because you're wrong. Mentioning "the" GSL 2012 season two finals game will always make people think about Mvp vs Squirtle, not just of Mvp. Because the two ended up playing one of the most insane game we've ever seen in Starcraft 2 (which is always mentioned in those top 10/20/30 games of all time). It was not just the performance of Mvp vs someone playing meh, or an unknown. It was the performance of a then declining Mvp, that everyone called out each round of this GSL, that managed to get to the finals with broken wrists, only to face one of the most incredible players at that time, who just went back from an IPL run many consider an insane feat (going all through the open bracket into the finals and even winning the first set, playing and winning so much games in such a short timespan). History is not always written by the winners. Do you remember who won IPL4? Everyone knows about Squirtle 2nd place at this event, but many people forgot it's been won by aLive... I also bet that in a few months (~8 I'd say), many people will remember about 2014's soO, but will have to check to remember against whom he lost...

However, somehow -god knows how, I don't think I could do it again- I got them both to watch the MVP vs Squirtle finals during a LAN session. It even seemed unfair for PartinG to steal so much of his spotlight due to better mechanics. He was one of my 5 favourite players and the main reason I started supporting Startale after oGs disbanded :/. A lot of the Koreans I found it easier to support are leaving the pro SC2 scene T.T.

Still remember the days when Startale had a 3 protoss core- Squirtle, Parting and Ace, with Parting having the strongest PvT but Squirtle being the most balanced and complete player. I loved his play, his peak happened when I started enjoying watching sc2 pro games. I always hoped he'd win a tournament, like ANY tournament, but it was not meant to be (I know he won a relatively minor one recently, long after I stopped watching sc2). The BC vortex will always be the best moment no matter how people try to criticize it being overrated. Hope he comes back for LotV

I meet Squirtle at the first Dreamhack I went to, DHS13, he was super chill, I got to take a picture with him and everything and he wasn't shy at all. Ever since his GSL final against Mvp I have waited for his next big turnup, he was truly a cleaver and creative player. Sad that GSL 2012 was his peak, however really happy that he got that far and that we got to experience such a cool and dynamic final because of him. Like honestly that archon toilet is one of the god damn benchmarks of GSL, and everyone should be thankful to Squirtle that he could put on such an amazing show. Good Luck in the future dear water Pokémon! You were the coolest!
