Take announced their next big project today: an Indiegogo campaign trying to raise $100,000 by December 16th for a new location that's currently under construction.
WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?
We as the team of TaKeTV want to go the next step together with you: TaKeTV is moving! To provide you, our community, with not only good but even better content in the future we’re investing a lot of money in our common TaKeTV future with a new, way bigger location with many incredible opportunities!
Announced perks:
In addition to the perks listed above we came up with some nice actions we will put into practice as soon as we managed to reach the following amounts of money:
2,500 $ - SingStar battle
We will arrange two progamers to compete in what could possibly be the most muted competition ever on the internet!
10,000 $ - Mila Superstar Cosplay
Our casters will dress up in Mila style and play a volleyball match.
25,000 $ - "Kappa" the watchdog
If we reach this milestone we will adopt a TaKeTV dog and name him Kappa. Yes we are for real. In addition, Kappa will be equipped with a GoPro to help us out with more diverse camera angles for our live shows!
50,000 $ - Twitch plays Dennis
If you ever wanted to live a day in the life of an Esports personality this is your chance! Control Dennis 'TaKe' Gehlen via Twitch Chat and help him achieve some epic quests that we will prepare - or make him run into a wall for 5 hours.
75,000 $ - Kick-Off Event
To give our new home the start that it deserves, we will be livestreaming for a whole week from our new location. We will organize Esports tournaments, do some goofy stuff and entertain you regardless of where you are located on the earth.
thank you for your feedback and support!!! Just wanna make sure we definitly gonna do it and try to do the best possible location you can imagine with what power we have.
I always have been crazy :D and i always do what i love and push for it until the very end! I hope you keep supporting me as you did in the past.
I will promise you i will do everything in my power to even bring you a better atmosphaere than we had in this appartment and i have tons of crazy ideas how we gonna do it!
I really like the next step and i hope you will do well and reach your goals you put on to yourself.
The thing that i most loved in all of your HSC´s (especcialy the first ones) was the "home"-feeling. If you can manage it, to keep that feeling in your new Studio, that would be amazing. That unique atmosphere that you provide with your hsc´s ist the major difference between your events, and events like Dreamhack, MLG, NASL, IEM and whatever has come and gone over the time.
thank you for your feedback and support!!! Just wanna make sure we definitly gonna do it and try to do the best possible location you can imagine with what power we have.

Congrats on upgrading to Tier 3!
Maybe you could clarify a bit more what the crowdfunding money will be used for? I mean, obviously it's good to have money at hand, but what would you be able to do that you couldn't without the money (since moving is already a given)? The milestones seem to be more community rewards rather than project milestones in a traditional meaning.
For the people who are worried about the "home" feeling getting lost, when they moved to the new location, in the big 30min video he says something about this at 05:10min
my dear god. and they say entrepreneurship is dead in EU(GER?).
if only ~70 percent of what you awesome people of taketv have planned can be realized this will be THE SHIT.
the flexibility and possibilities will be unparalleled. if - god forbid - one of our beloved esports games might lose traction this studio(s) give(s) you so many ways to compensate or simply go another route and start something new.

Yeah i agree.. I love TakeTv but i don't really understand why they're asking money for? I'm guessing to buy equipments that'll help them set up and maintain the building ?

According to the video announcement he took a pretty big loan, so I guess it is to minimize his risk to run out of money etc?

yeah pretty much. to give additional value to the donators you have the goodies/mile stones. they won't go broke/lose the new house or anything if they don't "raise enough" or something like that, but it would enable them to do more events/stuff faster.
He anounced in the first "Show video", that he is going to do more videos like this. He will always give us quick updates about the curent status at the new location. He did the same thing with the curent or future old studio.
He's using flexible funding, meaning he will get any amount raised, so I think the $100k are the "perfect" amount but anything helps. I will definitely donate once I've got some money spare!
Also I think Take has a lot of credibility in the community so any money you give him is money well spent - imho!
If we reach this milestone we will adopt a TaKeTV dog and name him Kappa. Yes we are for real. In addition, Kappa will be equipped with a GoPro to help us out with more diverse camera angles for our live shows!"
Its really Awesome, this will be Big! I have the feeling, if there was ever a time to give out money to eSports, the time sure has come with this Project!
Twitch plays Dennis would be a truly incredible/terrible event for the spectator and the man himself respectively. This will be awesome, hope to contribute in some way
Take, you are crazy as fuck! Luckily I like crazy people! (Crazy chicks tend to be better in bed. At least if you get them out of their straitjacket) Because of that my money is in the ring! I want to be part of that epic "adventure"!
Good god that place is humongous. Pretty creepy too without any windows. First I thought it was a cellar but then he goes into the actual cellar so I'm a bit confused.
I really like the plans you have with it though, but so much construction work needed :O
On October 18 2014 17:44 sharkie wrote: ehhh thats really a lot of money... sorry but this time I feel like the community is being taken advantage of :/
I can see why people feel this way. I think Take needs to be more open about how much of his own money (or that of his organization) he is about to pour into this project. People will feel better about it knowing that he is also personally/financially invested into this. Apparently he is taking up a credit for it.
On October 18 2014 17:44 sharkie wrote: ehhh thats really a lot of money... sorry but this time I feel like the community is being taken advantage of :/
It's gonna happen either way, in the video it was clear that work has already started and that Take has taken a loan to finance it. I agree that it would be nice to have some more information on whether the crowdfuned money will go into paying off that loan or other things, but I think it's really unfair to say he's taking advantage of the community.
This is a serious project that will obviously cost them a lot so I don't see the part where they take advantage of the community. Heck if you want starcraft 2 to live longer I think you should really contribute to this one, investing money in sc2 right now isn't the best financial bet yet they are doing it.
Taking advantage of the community is players/casters begging for donations on stream when they're already making tons of cash with ads and sponsors etc. Here you're not giving to take himself but to a large crew that will host starcraft tournaments.
If anybody deserves money it is Take, plus I think it's a pretty massive undertaking so giving more exact funding breakdowns will come with time.
It's something that does create a certain level of security, if down the line certain games are struggling to pull in headline sponsorships, at least there is a studio in waiting that can host tournaments.

Take is so trustworthy that even Kespa trust him with Flash.
SingStar and Volleyball is certainly a nice idea. However, starting from Kappa the dog it gets tasteless, and I could imagine more people see it this way. You don't get a live dog just for jokes. We'll see what the funding says...

They probably plan on it anyway and arent just doing this for more money or for a short gag... They are reasonable people and i dont see why they shouldnt get a dog.
I'm not sure it's a good idea to invest into huge office space before you're sure it will actually make money. What I mean is that a studio is nice but it needs various ways of making money to pay back whatever you invested, otherwise it's just space not being used...

You say "starting from Kappa the dog", what is so tasteless about Twitch plays Dennis or a Kick-off Event?
i am sure i will talk in an interview or bigger post more about it but i wanna take the right moment for it.
But just in general - I put everything i have once again in the new location. i dont have any savings for my private life and i took a huge loan for it. What we are asking for is actually to lower the risk and in best case even make stuff better. I will keep doing videos and show you, what we do and how we improve. Me and my team put everything into this project. I work crazy hours on this cause its my dream and i can promise you i thought a lot about it before i did and also thought about the cost and how i can finance it.
What a lot of people don t realize for a good reason is, that we also do other stuff in the backround like agencywork in eSport and also merchandise plus videoediting for companies in gaming and Productions on big events like Gamescom or other events.
eSport is my life but there is a lot more we do to earn money and pay the cost. I will definitly do a bigger interivew or something like this and will also mention some numbers etc.. I always have been very open about it and i would have a very bad feeling if people think i try to abuse or whatever.

My personal opinion is that also the following options are also too "kappa"/constructed in relation to the requested money. With the first two options only I might consider contributing, but after reading the last few options I feel fooled. But that's just an opinion and contributers might see it totally different.

Ah, I see. Yes, the milestones are definitely more fun-oriented, and not really to be taken seriously.
If I understood it correctly, Take has certain plans for this appartment (<- what is the proper word to use?) and wants to realize them under any circumstances and doesn't want to make them dependant on the funds raised via Kickstarter. That just means the less Kickstarter raises, the bigger the loan becomes he has to take.
But yes, these milestones are definitely something else than, for example, Ryan's milestones for Gameheart.
Already expanding. Nice to hear you are doing well Take. Also, this probably isn't a SC2 exclusive news. I'm pretty sure there are gonna be Hearthstone tournaments as well and whatever games Take plans to host tournaments for.

I actually don't mind the dog. I've seen dogs with dumber names than Kappa, and i bet the dog won't have a bad life with loads of pro-gamers around to play with. Who says that the dog has to sleep outside the studio etc, and isn't actually Takes dog?
I don't see an issue with that, this dog would have it better than many others.
The one issue that irks me as a german, and Take should've known that: Ultra. As a german, i don't want to be called Ultra. Or part of "Ultras". Because in germany, ultras are actually a pretty bad thing (same level as hooligans). Maybe it's because i'm actually a football-fan of my local club, but in general, he should've worded that differently.
Oh about the dog guys....:D My girlfriend and i we are living in the same house and we kept talking about a dog now for half a year now and we wanted to do it anyway and the idea was just the perfect timing for also us to decide that we finally have a dog. I grow up with tons of pets since we owned a pet shop and i had to work there all my childhood Believe me i know how to handle dogs and i am very responsible when it comes to a pet etc.

I would love to have a dog. I cannot have one myself because I would like to have a certain breed and cannot offer what that breed would take (lots of room, space for running etc) and generally holding a dog in a "smaller flat" would suck for the dog. So I would love to have that goal reached to have a dog at my working space

I don't know man, I don't see why not finding some milestones cool/fun should prevent you from donating since these are not the main objective of the fundraiser. Anyway best of luck to Take with this new project, it's really cool to see TaKeTV becoming an important brand.

I see. That's of course perfectly honorable! But I didn't know that, so that the funding campagne very quickly lost me on that one. Also, it's not just the facts that matter. If you had sex with a girl, you won't earn much admiration if you say "We were going to have sex anyway, but let me pay you 10€ and call you a prostitute for it" -> Sometimes money and inappropriate names spoil it.
The only question now is, whether kappa-proponents and funders are the same. We will see

Nice, that already guarantees that it will be a true dog, and not a rat in dog form!

Considering that they already have a succesful eSports streaming "company"(not sure if its an actual company or just them doing it), I think they wouldn't have started this if they weren't confident that it would work.

It will happen either way, Take took a huge loan and is investing everything he has into this. This kickstarter is just a chance for the community to support something they love and believe in and get something cool back, while at the same it lessens the burden and risk for Take. It's not like the 100k would be what makes this possible, we are talking about a lot more money for the whole project. The money would just enable him to make something cool even cooler, with the help of the community.

If you try to make sure something will definitely work out for you without trying it, you'll never do it. Thats from the perspective of someone that runs his own Business(es) since he's 18. You see the opportunity, you look at the risks and calculate what you can, then you move in or miss the opportunity. Thats pretty much it. If you don't try and/or try to be the 100% safe guy, when it comes to critical decisions like this one, running your own business (successful) is not for you.
I'm sure they know what to do with all the space. Its better to have a lot of space to use for your ideas than running out of it left and right. In the end, even the biggest place is too small for all of your Ideas.
Best of luck Take, I'm sure it will work out. Work hard and a supportive fan/customerbase will never fail you . Looking forward and, of course, some $/€ will move from my own pocket into your project .
Just finished the video. Wow, the place is huuuge. I really hope this whole thing will be profitable for TaKe and the crew because it's very ambitious and could be such a great success story.

It's probably a double edged sword, that it is situated in their relatively small city (compared to the big German metropoles). The apartment becomes much cheaper that way, however the target live-audience is smaller as well. Hopefully they can benefit from some bigger cities in their near vicinity. :-/
Germany basically hasn't got big metropoles! There are only 4 towns in Germany that hail more than 1 million people! So Krefeld isn't that small with ~200.000 people! Also it is basically still part of the "Ruhpott". An area of many towns and good speedway connection! If you would do a "triangle" of Krefeld, Cologne (~50km to Krefeld; also one of the four million towns) and Dortmund (~70km) you get a TON of people!

not to mention that the "ruhrpot" has around 12 million people ^^ krefeld is really near to düsseldorf etc but its CHEAP and thats the most importent thing for such a big building xD also its super easy to reach from düsseldorf/colonge so everyone can come here fast by plane and train
also its nice that take shortens my way to him from 8 minutes to 3 minutes xD

Yes, but from the big cities of the Ruhrgebiet, it is much more inconvenient than simply traveling inside a city. Though it's definitely reasonable distance to cover for an interesting an event or two. I hope the team has plans to keep the place busy.

Dear Dennis and your crew/team:
I adore the way you try something like an Idea in your head(s) that may sound stupid to everyone else but still somehow you make it happen and not only that: you make it a success and somehow awesome.
HSC was always so different to all the other things, I watched it even when I wasn't into SC2 anymore. And the casting by the koreans... the special guests like Stephano after his retirement.
And although you made everything you tried awesome, I am one of those persons who don't like change to things that already are great. HSC was always so cool, cause it had this special HOME atmosphere. So I fear, this could dissappear and therefore I wish you all the best and may you prove me wrong, but I will only start to donate when I already saw it turning out even better then the previous HSC. I'm a little bit of a chicken here, I know...
This project is amazing. We can feel Dennis' emotion when he hosts the first visit, and we realize that this guy is a pure blessing for the SC2's german and worldwide audience. Great human project too with certainly a lot of employed people all year long. I'll continue to support Homestory cups for ever ! Good luck with that wise move, Dennis, your build order is perfectly refined !

Well from experience (i'm from the Ruhrpott), the public transportation works well. It's definately not a problem. That is, as long as there's no strikes going. And by car it's even easier, thanks to Autobahn. It actually isn't that big of a difference between travelling inside a city (Tram, Bus) and travelling in the Ruhrgebiet in general (Train, then tram, bus). Of course, i can't speak for the small cities in the Pott, since i'm from Essen originally (one of the bigger cities), but shouldn't be too different.

I went way out of my way (25 miles from my house to be exact) to order pizza from them to support E-Sports, and we got nothing, absolutely nothing... and that was Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses pushing that deal, not some shady E-Sports teams...

So yeah. No thanks.
Haven't they already announced that they're moving to this place no matter what, and that the money raised is just so that they won't have to take as big loans?

So much lol. TakeTV has put up more for e-sports/SC2 than hardly anybody else who didn't start with a big company to back everything up financially from the beginning. They started with a couch in take's private small apartment and now they actually are a company. But Take keeps investing everything he has (and doesn't have) into new projects and getting bigger. So he is looking for financial supportment.
Cherry-picking a negative example can as well be done with a positive one.
Btw take will not live there, it's a whole place designated for e-sports, for fans, players, casters, producers, workers, etc.
No need to be generous if you don't like the idea of crowdfunding, but giving statements like that and reasoning like you did is just ridiculous and you make yourself look like a fool.
Or as Targa put it

So just to clarify and if I understand correctly: You ordered a pizza from Papa John, it never arrived (?) and you blame TL/EG/esports for that? Am I missing something?

no he refers to the goal promized if enough pizzas were ordered. Tbh I don't remember if everything was honored (I know a lot of fun things were late).

Agreed. But in general, the whole crowdfunding trend relies on people willing to donate money to people/causes they believe in and support. If people want to spend their money on this, who are we to judge.
All goals look a lot more reliable than papa johns goals. Take was/is always authentic.
I believed papa johns did all goals (even one/two happened very late) :o EG and TL cant do anything if papa johns does nothing. This here is pretty different, it's all about Take and his crew.

It's not just that. If Papa Johns for whatever reason does not deliver, well as witnessed you get a few people that are pissed off. Their business of shitty pizza is unaffected. If Take does not deliver/misuses the funds however, he is out of business. Once the reputation is ruined it STAYS ruined. Esports is a small scene, and the german scene especially.
Why would he destroy all the hard work of building what has become an integral part of SC2 and other games/areas for that?

As already mentioned, Take´s not gonna live there.
Also, crowdfunding is a totally legitimate way of financing a project, especially in such a community-driven environment as e-sports. Nobody´s forced to donate anything. Relying on/benefitting from generosity is neither "gross" nor questionable.

And I don't hate on people who are donating anything. I simply state that I too feel uncomfortable with the whole notion of crowdfunding at this scale. But people can throw money after whatever they want, that's none of my business and ultimately I don't care what people do with their money.

What do you think if highest perk is 10k and donations goes >30k? announcement about additional perks afterward is not really nice and more unexpected effort.

The reason why I am weary of crowdfunding is due to the poor track record of crowdfunding in eSports. But I admire Take and hope he succeeds

Well, for me "Pimp the House" is basically no crowdfunding. They wouldn't drill holes in floors if it wasn't funded yet! It is more a crowdsupporting or crowdrecoupering! And imho that is a big difference!
I really really like that and I wish you best of luck, that this will work. It seems to be really huge. I am a bit worried about the safety of this new place since there will be stuff worth of xxxxxx Euro. What are your thoughts about that @Take?

SC2 is the best. Give Dennis 100grand is an entirely different story. =/
I just wanted to bump this thread to let you guys know that this project is not dead or anything, but still going on. There are some video updates on his YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/user/TaKeTVTaKeSeN) that show that TakeTV is facing some problems on the legal side of things.
For a general status on the project see this video:
They are writing english subtitles for these, so just turn them on!
Ok: WHAT? BECKS FRIDGES?? Seriously: We are in Germany! I don't think anywhere in the world are more breweries than in Germany! And you go with one of the worst beers we have to offer??? Where can I start a petition "For good beer at TakeTV's new flat!"?

They might've gotten them for free or something, as some sort of product placement.
And trust me mate, if you're in England or Spain (I moved from Germany to England, and recently to Spain for work), you'll be incredibly happy to find some Becks
it is none of my business and these matters are usually dealt with high discretion but i would love to know what the whole project costs. i mean like, everything. in a previous video take said the bar alone was 25000 euros. and thats peanuts compared all the pcs, monitors, screens, couches....and above all of that the whole fucking construction work
I think TakeTV took a loan for this(don't quote me on this thats just what I heard), but I mean he's essentially opening a business, so as long as he makes a profit relatively soon it's a all good.
He took 2 loans, one from a local bank and another one from NeedforSeat. Also I think he used fair bit of money of his own, he croud fun 35k and his family helped him. I think the numbers have been 400k in the first place and gained bigger due to the problems with fire protection. I would guess 500k+ €
please change your Dosenpfand/bottle returnable. normal is 0,25€, this means freaks are buying those cans anywhere and return on your location. We had this "disaster" few years ago nationwide in Germany where bottle returnable by 1L water was/is 0,25€ everywhere except Metro (0,50€).

1 € in greater bars and clubs is relativly normal. With your can/bottle you get a chip and you can only return it with that chip back again.

500k debts + interest + more than 10 people working for the company + monthly rent for the building = lots of pressure.
Personally I find it quite risky to leverage your business by the factor 10 if you basically depend on the SC2-hype and a couple of sponsors that may or may not continue in the future, depending on their return from this sponsoring. We have seen a lot of examples in the past where pretty much the same concept blew up rather quickly. Need for Greed??
Anyways, I am curious how this will all work out. The odds are massively against him and since he didn't even found a GmbH (company with limited liability) for it, he is in there at even money. Maybe he should have consulted a financial expert and especially a lawyer, before going crazy.
P.S.: Yes, I did sign up especially to write this, because I couldn't find the TakeTV-forum anymore.
