After almost 3 yrs, Aphrodite has left StarTale. it's uncertain where the Zowie Divina champion will be headed.

I reckon ST is trimming fat to get more player that would be useful in PL
To all the haters: you deserve to witness many, many more Serral victories, worthy of the godlike player he is.

Yes Legend said they are going to be announcing a new sponsor soon so I would hope that they are to be announcing a few additions in good time.

I would be so delighted if they managed to get Bomber back.

well im pretty sure that's one of ST's goals, but aside from that, she's always promoting MSI gear. so she's probably getting a personal sponsorship from msi and zowie instead of making ST's other sponsors feeling left out

I dont want to sound negative, but when you look at their roster they have so many players that I dont think picking up new ones is not the options to go for StarTale... Hack has been doing better recently, Life is the best player over there for sure, Curious is a bit better than every other player left on the team I guess?

Question is do they have money? I heard there will be a new sponsor annoucement for ST right? That could change a lot if it is a sponsor like what Prime managed to get...

Actually Rainbow recently came back from military duties (July 2014 I think?) which was the reason he retired anyway. Maybe they have something planned? Maybe they want to move on from the Starcraft phase of their lives.

she was clearly never on the team because she can compete at the highest level of starcraft so holding her to a standard on the basis of her "results" doesnt make a lot of sense. its like if rotterdam left root (actually idk if hes even still on root but you get my point) and people said "oh well he didnt achieve anything as a player so it doesnt matter"

Kind of a bad comparison, because rotti does so much casting, and aphrodite does none whatsoever.

She gave ST exposure through her personal sponsorships and their commercials, so that was the benefit. However, if they're focusing on proleague, she's useless to the team, and they could use that money to spend on a player who might actually benefit their current plans.

Gotta trim the fat.

the comparison isnt about casting, its about contributing to a team through means other than skill and results, which is a generality that includes casting... geez it wasnt that complicated of an analogy lol.

That would actually be an interesting experiment. Many of TL players weren't that good before joining TL, HerO was hardly known at all, Taeja was... well he was a very good terran but far from the stomping monster he is now. I'd be curious to see what Aphrodite could achieve in TL. Maybe she can become even good enough to actually compete in real SC2 tournaments.

Professional is a cheap title.

Professional is someone who lives out of it. If she is living out of playing StarCraft 2, she is a professional StarCraft 2 player. Normally professionals are better than amateurs because they put much more time into it, they can improve in a more suited environment, etc but that's not necessarily always the case. Especially in esports.

With those pickups I thought it was known that HerO was very skilled and Taeja was already showing some serious chops in the ESV weeklies.

I'd actually love there to be a writeup one day about those two pickups. Pretty much the best Korean pickups ever. Skilled players getting exposure to tournaments and all the while improving with their time on the team .

Especially in esports.

If you translate literally 'professional' and 'gamer' and put together the two words then you're right, but it doesn't work like that. In reality, when people say ' professional starcraft 2 player' they mean someone who consistently participates in tournaments, earns enough money to (almost) make a living (as you said), and is skilled enough to compete with most of the other progamers. All 3 of these aspects are very important. That's why I wouldn't call Aphrodite a progamer.

never got the impression that she was anything more than a "hobby" progamer...

At least, she's Masters in KR

Is that supposed to be an accomplishment?

Professional is a cheap title.

In professional baseball, extremely young players (high school, early college) get signed to teams all the time because the team has a sort of interest in them.

It's only fair she gets a chance at a team if they think she could improve and help the team if someone like Maru gets a chance because a team sees potential in him despite him being a kid at 13-14. He developed into a star, she got better but didn't develop into a GSL Code S player (winning a Zowie, good accomplishment, but not Proleague obv).

I simply don't think she put in the time to tighten her play to the level that some of the other top players do. Work ethic goes a long way, but I don't follow her practice regimine =)

If you've been on a progaming team for years and have shown little sign of a breakthrough as a pro level player I very much doubt you're that way inclined. She may yet remain in the scene in a number of other capacities though

I don't want to be an a-hole, but did she actually achieve anything outside that one all female tounament?

she was clearly never on the team because she can compete at the highest level of starcraft so holding her to a standard on the basis of her "results" doesnt make a lot of sense. its like if rotterdam left root (actually idk if hes even still on root but you get my point) and people said "oh well he didnt achieve anything as a player so it doesnt matter"

then what was her role on startale then? Rotterdam is a caster, so of course we don't hold him to that. I never really fully understood what she does, if she's not a progamer.
