The http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/IEM_Season_IX_-_Shenzhen open brackets have been released - mostly. There is still one missing player in Bracket B, but the groups are as follows (currently)

Bracket 1:

StarTale (Z)Life vs. Australian Terran Phoenix (might be a race typo for SYF's (Z)PhoenixA)

Wayi Spider (P)Daisy vs. (Z)NesTea

Hong Kong Attitude (Z)Sen vs. FX-Production (T)Neige

(P)LiquidHerO vs. Bistork, a Protoss from Hong Kong

Bracket 2:

mYisanity (T)jjakji vs. Japanese Zerg (Z)Vaisravana

Yoe Flash Wolves (P)Has vs Wayi Spider (Z)Check

Jin Air (Z)TRUE vs. Dignitas (P)Seed

CM Storm (Z)Revival vs. a player yet to be determined (will edit and update OP when such player is made known)

2 players from each double-elimination bracket will qualify for the Group Stage, being seeded into a group's 4th position. Those groups again:

Group A: KT Rolster (P)Zest vs. Open Bracket player, Yoe Flash Wolves (P)San vs. ROOT (T)Illusion

Group B: Acer (T)INnoVation vs. Open Bracket player, Liquid (Z)Snute vs. Samsung Galaxy (P)Stork

Group C: Samsung Galaxy (Z)Solar vs. Open Bracket Player, EG (Z)Jaedong vs. IvD (P)puCK (possibly IronMan)

Group D: Invictus Gaming (P)Jim vs. Open Bracket player, Acer (T)MMA vs. Liquid (T)TaeJa

Bad group for San, decent group for puCK. Group B is a bit ridiculous already.

Edit: I guess it's EDT now, but it is still not good times for tuning in

This means we could see a Zest vs TRUE rematch, that'd be so sick! Really hyped to see TRUE here, I think he's a big favourite to win it all if he can bring his GSL/proleague performance to a weekend event.

i think the most interesting participant in the open bracket is the japanese player. PC games are definitely far from popular in japan. they're mostly into arcade and console games.

oh and i hope the last spot is Maru!!

Does anybody know what days the open bracket (Stage 1) and group stages (Stage 2) are played on based on past IEM events? I may go watch the even live in person. Are these the days of the open bracket and group stages?

Wednesday: Open bracket (Stage 1)
Thursday: Group stages (Stage 2)

Or will the open bracket be played on Wednesday/Thursday and the Group stages on Friday? Maybe somebody that remembers past IEM events can help me. Thanks.

Open Bracket will be played on the 15th.

Groupstage will be played on the 16th and 17th.

If you plan to come, tickets can be bought at the door. No special additional ticket needed to go on the IEM tournament zone.

Japan is quietly one of the quicker growing scenes in SC2. They have Barcrafts, they run their own tournaments, a handful of them stream, and just recently, Artosis tweeted about being recognized multiple times in Tokyo. They're still a far cry from the Big Three regions in terms of skill, but they'll be popping up in more events sooner than we think.

StarTale (Z)Life vs. Australian Terran Phoenix (might be a race typo for SYF's (Z)PhoenixA)

PhoenixA's attending ACL Sydney, which is on the same dates as IEM, so probably a different one.

I'm really surprised by the lack of Chinese players in this tourney, I'd have thought they'd flock to a tourney on their home soil, no visa issues or anything.

No Top, TooDming, MacSed, Xigua or Courage. I can understand XY and iAsonu not being there given recent events, but man only having Jim makes me sad, it's really rare to see these players play.

Going to watch nonetheless, love me some IEM plus with TRUE there gotta support the Green Wings.

Top, Toodming, and Courage are on the team Zenith of Origin, based in Beijing, which is 2000km from Shenzhen, or a 3 hour flight. In addition, Zenith of Origin's sponsor recently pulled out, and they were struggling to send Toodming to compete in the U.S.

MacSed and Xigua are on iG, based in Shanghai, which is 1400km from Shenzhen and a 2 hour flight. I feel like iG could've provided travel and lodging for them to accompany Jim, but it's too bad.
