I didn't see a post on this and thought it worthy of noting; see here for who qualified:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-tournaments/460730-gsl-code-a-qualifiers-2014-season-3
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2014_Global_StarCraft_II_League_Season_3/Qualifier
Note that there was a wildcard bracket to determine a 25th qualifier because one of the 24 players seeded into Code A (Squirtle) apparently forfeited his spot to change regions (I would guess he's joining Mvp in Europe? Because if there's one thing WCS EU needs more of it's Korean Protoss).
Racial mix: 11 Protoss, 9 Terran, 5 Zerg
Notable players who qualified: Flash, RorO, TY, FanTaSy, Dear
Notable players who participated but did not qualify: Sniper, GuMiho, Creator, MarineKing, JYP
Some random notes:
* Looks like Ryung didn't participate. He's now the only Axiom player not in either Premier or Challenger of a league. Is he retiring? UPDATE: Ryung is returning to WCS AM, thank you to posters below.
* Looks like pretty much everyone on Prime (except for ByuN) participated but no one made it. MKP got closest. Prime has zero players in Code A/S--by my quick count, every other team participating in SPL (if you count ST-IM as one team) has at least 6 players. Yes, even MVP. Ouch for Prime.
* hyvaa and aLive both made it, which is particularly nice to see because they have not looked great in SPL since joining MVP.
* Dear is still teamless. Kind of surprised no one has picked him up, especially since he implied back when he left Mouz that he might be joining another team soon.
* Avenge is back in Code A! I think this is the first we've seen of him since he un-retired and joined Jin Air?
|
Ryung is going to wcs NA, so are losira and possibly squirtle
i will find byun

All three Jin Air players (Cure, Terminator and Avenge) made it - awesome.
|
Notable fact is that Squirtle had a Code A spot but went for WCS AM instead, thus the wildcard
|
byun is not retired, but he literally hasn't done anything for the past months... this is so strange. you'd think he'd participate in the code a qualifiers
|
What about State? Will he Try Another region?

I guess Ryung decided to follow Crank, Heart, and Alicia. Isn't MMA still hanging out in the house? That means that they've got people from all 3 regions. Travel must be a bitch to handle.
|
Aw was hoping Gumiho would make it
|
Are there any more interviews coming up? I saw one for Dear (<3) but I haven't seen one from anyone else

MMA bounces back and forth between living in Korea and Germany.

Good to see Flash made it. SC2's legitimacy is affected if Flash is in Code B.

It's rumored that Dear has joined Samsung, probably because the proleague roster lock thingy that they haven't announced it yet.
|
CJ Entus has 9/11 players on its roster in Code A!:D
Gumiho tried and didn't make it - rare didn't attempt to qualify according to brackets, and he might have retired? So maybe 9/10 ^^;

Love most of the players that made it trough, sad about Center, Keen, Gumiho and Dream though. It also breaks my heart to think that a couple of these players will also fall straight back down to Code B after Code A is concluded. Hopefully Flash, TY and Fantasy can make it back to Code S along with Innovation, SuperNova and Bbyong.

Creator got pretty far too, made it to the final decider match.
Also a mildly funny note, in group 4 of the afternoon batch, the quarterfinals featured a match between MVP.Dream and DuSt.Nightmare

Cmon Prime, step it up!
Seriously how can they be so subpar to the rest of the korean teams (minus StarTale I guess?) They probably have the resources to recruit or train...
|
Prime should pick up Dear. Could round out there solid line up of starting players and give them a solid threat outside of MKP.
Also sad to see MKP not make it =[ was really pulling for him.

Code A is so stacked. Really sad to see MKP and Creator fail

This one??? If someone can translate it would be awesome :D
|
|
wow wow wow JYP? not stating that JYP is bad or anything but just surprised to see him participating in Code A so quickly after his leave from EG.
|
Aww, no Losira/KangHo? :< I keep rooting for him. I miss him :<
|
Jeez. If MKP, JYP, etc. are the ones not qualifying, it shows how monstrously stacked the qualifiers/Code A are :O
|
Impact made it as well ! Hooray :D
|
Too bad Gumiho and MKP didn't make it
It is weird that Dear has been teamless for so long. At one point he was looking like the best player in the world after winning a GSL and WCS Season Finals championships back to back...
|
|
Wow...Dear still teamless. Esports such a merciless world.
Code A/S is stacked with so many tough opponents, once you fall out, the climb to the top seems impossible. I wonder how motivated some of the players e.g. Byun are..
|
|
is seeker doing Code A interviews this time around?

State made it to the semifinals, but fell to Armani
|
no Sniper in Code A
|
MarineKing (((
|
you could have mentionned SkyHigh in there, you know for Nostalgia's sake.
|
|
Avenge from ZeNEX? He might become THE THING yet...

Hack almost made it but he didn't D: I believe in him next season!
|
oh MKP oh why.....
|
Mkp =(
Flash is back baby!!!!!!!!!!!
Never give up, one day...one day he will rule SC2 as well!!!
|
A lot of Terran has qualified which is a good thing! I am really sad for Gumibro, he is such an awesome player and I enjoy watching him more than 90% of other Terran players. :/
|
wow CREATOR not made it ? wonder why no more words about it seems the hugest upset for me

Unfortunately, Journey didn't make it to Code A I really like his stream, and he has superb mechanics. Hopefully, he'll find a new team soon!

The best thing that could happen this season is if all terrans advance and we have all TvT semies and final.

On a side note, do we know when Code A groups will be announced?

Fun fact: NS HoSeo has as many players in the GSL as Prime.
|
Not sure why Dear hasn't been picked up by a team yet. Protoss seems to be performing very well. Seems like a race to have. Terran has a clear weakness in both match-ups Zerg and Protoss. It's risky to put out a Terran player unless there's a specific map strategy versus a certain player. Or if the deficit in skill between your Terran player and Protoss/Zerg alternatives warrants putting him out. I would definitely pick up Dear if it meant benching a Terran player until the notable disadvantage the race has is resolved.
If you look at SKT, for example, they have been putting only their Protoss and Zerg players for awhile now in SPL. Fantasy played once in SPL Round 3, lost to Zerg. He played twice in SPL Round 4. One was a TvP, he lost. The other was a TvT.
If you have the slightly advantaged races in the hands of really good players, you end up with +10 to a +5 second place at the end of the round.

It's been rumored for a couple weeks now that Dear has signed with Samsung, and is awaiting the next opportunity for the Proleague rosters to be changed for the announcement to be made.

I guess because I've never seen the guy play I haven't processed the idea of Adios being on Jin Air yet!

Just like SamsungKHAN_Roro.

That's probably the most thinly veiled balance whine I've read in a while.
