I realise this likely isn't MLG's fault, but this is probably one of the least stacked MLG's we've had since 2011 when the Korean's started coming to MLG. It's not a shit line-up, but it's not a particularly high-quality one either.
Not that I won't watch it (because a lot of my favourite players are there), I'm just a little disappointed. This tournament has more Koreans confirmed in it already than the next Dreamhack does with a finalized roster. And that's with only 2 of the Koreans in this living in NA, while more Koreans at DH Summer live in Europe than don't. This, of course, doesn't even take into account the foreign onslaught from people like State, Major, Scarlett, TLO, Suppy, HuK, Puck, and the frightening specter of an in-form Illusion. This tournament is as stacked as any international live tournament can hope to be. lol. Top tier Koreans attending MLG: Polt used to be here, haven't seen enough of him to say he is no longer one of the best in the world, so let's say he is. Code Sish level Koreans attending MLG: Jaedong, Hyun, DRG So there's 4 really good players (if Polt is as good as he used to be, which would not surprise me) and that's basically it. Lots of Koreans != stacked. Lots of Code S Ro16 or better recent regulars counts as stacked. As I said, I don't blame MLG, it's just disappointing that the likes of Taeja, Parting, Soulkey, Maru, Zest, Rain aren't attending. I'd call Bomber Code Sish. Also Life apperently planed to come as well according to Bombers twitter, so it is getting somewhere. Ragnarok was in Code S last season as well.

That is hardly what I would call a foreign onslaught, with most of the european top players missing (Vortix, Snute, Welmu, Dayshi, etc.) . Maybe Scarlett, MajOr, HuK or Harstem can knock out a few people, but the foreign line-up here is not comparable to the one at HSC/WCS EU for example.

Come on Alicia and Heart!
Really hoping Alicia in particular can make it deep so he picks up a good haul of WCS points.
I'm gutted that I am away this weekend. I'll have to catch the VODs.

Hmmm. Not that strong of a line-up, just the usual foreign-travelling Koreans + Keen and Ragnarok.
|
This list is actually pretty cool, reminds me of the good ol' MLG's of a couple years ago.
Sad that I'll be away that entire weekend x.x

That open bracket is brutal, gl hf to any new blood trying to break into the main tournament.

The tournament line-up isn't underwheliming, its just not stacked with the "cream of the crop". Obviously the RO8 is still going on for GSL so you can't expect those guys to travel when $66,000 is within their grasp. And wasn't Kespa going to send some top proleague performers to foreign events? Anyway, there are a ton of fan favorites and the potential for a break out from someone who hasn't had consistent results in awhile is fairly good.

Negative. Not on the open bracket registration.

Good list of players! Solid Korean lineup and some potential for foreigners to break through the OB.
Can't wait for this!!
|
I hope MKP will be there!

Awesome lineup. The only thing I am not impressed with is Axeltoss as a caster. I thought his casting at Lone Star was atrocious. Hopefully he has improved since.

When will broadcast schedules/groups and such be posted?
|
Would be great to have MKP back at MLG
|
What about MKP ? i heard he'd come

It seems most Europeans don't want to travel right after Dreamhack. That makes Scarlett the only top-tier foreigner attending (and maybe Major).
