NrS.Welmu achieved the round of 8 for the second consecutive time and last season's champion MC finished in second place for a double Protoss advancement in Group B.
Welmu overcame the health issues that kept him out of HSC IX and managed to secure first place by defeating YoDa and MC to advance without dropping a map. It was an incredibly impressive performance from the Finnish Protoss, as he becomes the second foreigner to make the Ro8 thus far. His performance here proves that he should be considered one of the best European players alongside fellow quarterfinalist Vortix.
Meanwhile, MC overcame the upset loss to Welmu and advanced in second place. The boss toss looked solid in his wins over both ToD and YoDa, although a loss to a foreigner even in the group stages does not bode particularly well for a second consecutive championship run. Either way MC continues to be incredibly consistent in the region, as he has not missed the bracket stage of WCS EU since Season 1 of 2013.
Unfortunately where there are winners there must also be losers. XMG.ToD brought up the rear in the group after losing to MC in his opening match 0-2. In the loser's match against YoDa he managed to win an entertaining base race in game 2 on Frost, but he was unable to finish out the series and fell 1-2, meaning that he was eliminated from WCS this season. Although YoDa managed to defeat ToD, he looked less impressive against the other two Protoss in the group and was unable to pick up a map against either Welmu or MC.
Next game day - Group C: Golden, Grubby, MaNa, First
Players Qualified for the Ro8:
VortiX
ForGG
Welmu, MC

And calling yoda "random korean"... dunno man he was pretty consistens some time ago. Comes off of a high horse - i don't really like him.

Haha this is so badass after his results

I dont think he wants your approval. He backed up his shit talk with a 4-0. Confidence is good.

In all honestly, Yoda is not that well know.
Especially comparing him to Teaja, Jeadong, Bomber, Parting, Polt, MMA, MKP, Flash, MVP. And a slew of extremely well know and recognized Koreans.
Happy Welmu was able to back up his words. He played great.

One Korean and One foreign made it out again. Keep it up EU!
|
lol, pretty awesome smack talk backed up with a 4-0, not bad, not bad. However, he really needs to make it passed the RO4. Then people will really be raising their eyebrows.
|
Welmu thinks he's more known than Yoda?
|
Pretty pleased to see MC make it through. Sometimes he tends not to back up after good performances.
|
As MC likes to say.. Easy peasy? :D:D
|
Tbh, you don't really see many people trashtalk and back it up.

Also, nice work with the winning, but that sort of smack talk can apply a lot of pressure. Hopefully he thrives under it.

He has a few reasons for having this belief. The primary one would be that he's more known than Yoda.

isn't the pro scene known for having players playfully troll each other and joke around on twitter? i was assuming it was just trash talking for fun, not serious insults...
|
the trashtalk is for confidence, obviously. welmu looking in really good form
|
Welmu is immediately becoming one of my favorite players. Not enough pros, both foreign and Korean, "trash talk" or show personality.
|
Awesome trashtalk... gotta love that much confidence coming a foreigner these days!
Can we talk about how ridiculous it is that ToD is both a high-tier player AND a high-tier caster?

Too easy for welmu. Yoda is just not even close to where he used to be it seems.

I thought he was going to be a real deal steady Code S player for a while there along with First but then poof

yea his dominance in gstl and winning an iem championship gets COMPLETELY overshadowed by something Mvp mentioned, which even then only big korean sc2 fans would only know about. way to contradict yourself in that last sentence buddy

Well, he is! Maybe not in Korea, but in the "foreigner" world. And I we saw yesterday, he deserves to be more recognized than Yoda.

Welmu is a cute puppy that is not trash-talk;

Nicely done by Welmu, so far Europe holds

Minimum number of Koreans that could have made the round of 8 = 0, number of Koreans that made the round of 8 = 2, number of Koreans eliminated = 1, number of foreigners eliminated = 3, with all this great maths you still get = Europe holds, I'm not sure that you maths holds up

I have been following sc2 since 2011 and Yoda is quite unknown name for me. I dont follow korean sc2 scene except proleague sometimes.

YoDa is kinda uknown and Welmu didn't make any of those statement serious. Just a bit of smack talk, really common between pro players (MC does it all the time for example) But they are really friendly with each other. And well he backed his words with sweeping the floor with koreans so who is going to judge him?

Welmu too cocky. But that's good since he placed first in his group he'll be able to meet ForGG and get trashed by a real Terran.
