Millenium is very happy to announce the arrival of VortiX within its Starcraft 2 roster

Statement by Rémy « Llewellys » Chanson, eSports manager :
Since the inactivity of Goswser, a very good Zerg player was missing to Millenium's roster.
Today I'm glad to announce the arrival of VortiX in our line-up.
His achievements are impressive and his hunger for victory intact. I hope that the summer will be "caliente" for him.
Unfortunatelly he is placed in the same WCS group as ForGG, but isn't it the proof that he is already a true Millenium ? ^^
Welcome Vortix !

Interview of VortiX :
[M]Nazca : Hi VortiX and welcome to Millenium ! We're very happy to have you on board. Tell us a bit about you for whoever might not know you.
[M]VortiX : Hello and thank you ! I'm Juan Moreno Durán, a 20 year old player from Barcelona, Spain. I played Warcraft III some years ago and I've been playing StarCraft II competitively since its release.

You come from a family of gamers, both your brothers being very involved in StarCraft 2 as well and, in fact, you even started team Karont3 together some years ago. How was it like growing up together and how is it like nowadays ?
[M]VortiX : Well we've always had fun playing videogames since we were little and it was kinda fun playing together. About Starcraft 2, it was always a very good way to keep motivated because I always had them to talk with about the game and what I was doing wrong, etc and it helped me get better and better.
About Karont3, we didn't actually start it, we were just recruited as SC2 players/manager, but we had nothing to do with the team organisation. Nowadays all of us are really busy with studies so I guess I'm the only one that keeps playing very actively.

Oh I see. Well, nowadays you are indeed very active and one of the very best players in Europe. When you look back at these 4 years of StarCraft 2, what is your best and worst memory ?
[M]VortiX : The best moment must've been when I won Thor Open 2012, since it's the only offline tournament (out of Spain) that I've won, even though I remember that when I won SuperNova in IEM Cologne 2012 quarter finals I was really happy and it was a very big upset for people watching since most people didn't even know me by then.
The worst is the "curse" that made LucifroN and I get seeded against him in almost every tournament we travelled for. It's always a bad sensation to play your own brother when both of you are really motivated to go far in a tournament.

LucifroN curse !
Right now, after some months "off" last year, would you say you're back to your top level ? More generally, what are your goals for the next months ?
[M]VortiX : Yes, definitely. At the beginning of 2013 there were a series of circumstances that made me loose a lot of shape. I had to focus more on studies, and I was a bit unmotivated with Starcraft 2, and those two things coincided with the Heart of the Swarm release, so I couldn't adapt well. But at the end of the last year I think I got back to my old shape, and at the beginning of 2014 I think I got even better.
My goals for the next months... I want to attend as many events as possible, I think if I prepare well and I'm confident in myself I can make really good performances, and it's gonna be the first event out of WCS I'm attending this year so I'm really looking forward to it.

Let's turn to Millenium now. Tell us what made you decide to join the crew and how you see your future within the team.
[M]VortiX : Well Millenium has always been a top team in Europe, already in my Warcraft III years Millenium was a pretty big team and there were some players in it I admired, and I had never heard anything but good things about them. Also, they have a really strong StarCraft II team right now.
When I left Mousesports they were the first ones to get in touch with me and, of course, I was really eager to listen to them, and we quickly found the conditions that would suit both of us.

You will be playing your WCS Europe Ro16 group tomorrow. You first play Harstem who's said to be the man of the year, and the other match is Snute vs ForGG. Obviously it's a very tough group and especially now you might face your new teammate ForGG. Are you confident you will once again reach the Ro8 ?
[M]VortiX : It's definitely a very hard group, and right now I'm in that time of the year when I have to play "a bit less". But it's no excuse, I think I've got the same level I had for the last WCS and I will do my best. I think all 4 of us have got the same chances of making it into the Ro8 so it's gonna be entertaining for sure.
I'm really looking forward to 4-0ing the group, it would be my 4th 4-0 in a row in Ro16.

Good luck with your group, we will be chearing for you and ForGG ! So finally let's finish on a super fast one word thingy. I say one word and you give the fastest answer that crosses your mind, ok ?
[M]VortiX : Yeah, gogo !

Zerg !
[M]VortiX : Under

Lol ! Swarm Host !
[M]VortiX : Boooring

Europe
[M]VortiX : Strong !

Heart of the Swarm
[M]VortiX : Mothership core

WCS 2014
[M]VortiX : Mine !

Mutalisk
[M]VortiX : Annoying

David Kim
[M]VortiX : God

And finally.... daed gaem !
[M]VortiX : The sims 1

Muchas gracias Juan ! Can you say something in French ?
Je suis enchante d'entrer a Millenium, c'est un bon occasion per meilleurer comme joueur et per meilleurer mon français !*
[*We decided to keep the original version as it's so cute !]

Millenium is at its strongest since Stephano left, though it would be good to have an active Protoss player in there. Has MaddeLisk been playing?

so now vortix wont play for mouz in ATC most definetely. You cant have a player from another team. I guess they have to forfeit matches if they lose to much.

Too bad for Vortix, 2 times qualified for the playoffs with two different teams and never actually made it there.

but yeah.. i wouldnt say millenium is the strongest just after losing babyknight. I mean he was wcs ro8 at some point too and the roster is still lacking a good protoss. although dayshi and vortix are in pretty good form at the moment, but form changes.

so what, only very few foreigners made ro8 in wcs, so he was one of the top foreigners for quite some time not just the moment he made it in top8.

English is very different as it is a mishmash of languages at this point, it's as much of an outlier as you can get

a more fair comparison would be german to one of the scandinavian languages

English had its origins in the Germanic languages, but it had its grammar and pronunciation altered by Latin and French. During the French occupation of England in the 11th century and onward, the language changed dramatically and its where English got its irregularity and sentence structure, as well as a lot of its spelling. I'd have to agree that English is quite the outlier, not really anything like German...

So, if Millenium can get Vortix a contract within a week of him becoming a free agent, was Symbol just demanding too much?

Maybe Mil would just prefer Vortix. Arguably, Vortix is doing better than Symbol right now and he's European and more popular.

Not doubting the man's appeal, but it was reported a while back that they were close to signing Symbol before negotiations seemingly broke down.

EDIT: Not sure of the timeframe, so I adjusted the wording accordingly.

They had almost enough to keep Stephano from going to EG. They have a lot of money, they might be on the top5 of richest foreign teams even. They just don't pick players for the sake of picking players.

They used to be one of the richest team if you exclude EG/Alliance, things are a worse right now with their streaming revenue shrinking and the fact that less money is entering the SC2 scene compared to the last 2 years.

The thing is that Millenium doesn't want a korean player that lives in Korea. They want him to be in Europe, either at the Millenium House or elsewhere (ForGG lives in Germany for example). There are multiple reasons for this :

- being closer to the european events (WCS, DreamHack, ASUS ROG) to reduce the costs,
- getting content for the Millenium TV without the problems encountered with cross server,
- having a player in Europe shows that he's very concerned about his team and that he's not a mercenary.

But it's the same for all the other teams, so it doesn't really change their position.

I've learned french and spanish quite a bit and i think they are very similar. I keep forgetting french the more i learn spanish and the other way around because then i mix it up. The french guys i met also had a really easy time learning spanish. I mean lots of words are similar and with only very few knowledge of pronounciation and some grammar concepts you can already understand a lot and learning to speak it isnt that hard either if you dont have to learn new words just adapt the words you know a little + grammar rules.

I would say spanish, french and italian is quite similar, dunno about portuguese.. i had a brazilian friend who said its not hard for him to learn spanish in contrast to german.

Also English, German and dutch is quite similar too. I mean lots of dutch people speak german fluently after a year in Germany. (they often have some basic knowledge from school, so its not hard to fill in the blanks from there) Some German accents dont sound too different to dutch.

I dont know much about nordish languages, some words are similar and when you read it you can kinda get the gist of it as a german speaker but understanding and speaking would take some work i guess.
I love to bash on americans but in this case i would have to agree. I mean the languages arent the same by any means but they're still very close.

As I spanish who speaks Spanish and Catalan, I "understand" better Italian and Portuguese than French. It's true that all the romance languages have similarities, but Spanish and French are different enough to not understand anything of the other's language if you don't study it
