There's more neat Red Bull stuff announced on their Battlegrounds site with neat pictures that show the qualifier information and stuff.

Five months. Six tournaments. One Grand Champion.

This year's circuit is set for stops in Atlanta and Detroit, in addition to North American, Global, and Open Online Qualifiers. The victors from these five events will join 2013's Grand Champion, PartinG, runner-up, sOs, and the winner of MLG Anaheim at the Grand Finals in Washington, D.C.

The time has come for you to take your shot at eSports glory.

By now you know that Battle Grounds NYC 2013 Champion and runner-up, PartinG and sOs, have already secured two of the eight spots to this year’s Grand Finals in Washington, DC. Two more competitors will be determined at the stops in Atlanta and Detroit, which still leaves four seats open for the Grand Finals on September 20-21. That’s where you come in.

This year, Battle Grounds North America, Battle Grounds Global, and Battle Grounds Online will send their respective victors to march on Washington in the hopes of usurping the throne. Registration for the North America event, which is set to take place Sunday at 11 a.m. PT, is now open. All players must be at least Diamond 1v1 rank on the StarCraft II Battle.net service.

North America

Registration Opens: Today, 5/30, at 6 a.m. PT

  • NA Qualifier #1 – 6/1 – 11 a.m. PT
  • NA Qualifier #2 – 6/3 – 11 a.m. PT
  • NA Qualifier #3 – 6/9 – 11 a.m. PT
  • NA Final – 6/17 – 6/19

Each region-locked bracket has room for 512 players to register, and those who are eligible must be able to provide proof of their residency. All sets, Qualifier or Qualifier Final, are best of three and single elimination.

Prize Pool

1st – $200, All-expense-paid trip to Washington, DC, to compete at Red Bull Battle Grounds Grand Final
2nd – $100
3rd/4th – $50

Global

Registration Opens: 7/15, more information to follow.

  • Global Qualifier #1 – 7/17 – 11 a.m. PT
  • Global Qualifier #2 – 7/24 – 11 a.m. PT
  • Global Qualifier #3 – 7/27 – 11 a.m. PT
  • Global Final – 8/8 - 8/10

We’ll remove the region-lock for this event, where the winner of each Global Qualifier will move on to compete at the Global Finals on August 8-10. The top two finalists from each qualifier with move on to compete in the Global Finals.

Prize Pool

1st – $200, All-expense-paid trip to Washington DC to compete at Red Bull Battle Grounds Grand Final
2nd – $100
3rd/4th – $50

Online Open

Registration Opens: 7/24, more information to follow.

  • Online Qualifier #1 – 7/26 – 11 a.m. PT
  • Online Qualifier #2 – 8/2 –11 a.m. PT
  • Online Qualifier #3 – 8/15 – 11 a.m. PT
  • Online Qualifier #4 – 8/16 – 11 a.m. PT
  • Online Open Final – 8/31 – 11 a.m. PT

The winners of each Online Qualifier will move on to the Online Finals on 8/31, which will determine who earns the last spot to compete in Washington, DC, in the Grand Finals.

Prize: All expense paid trip to Washington, DC, to compete at Red Bull Battle Grounds Grand Final.

North America Online Qualifiers

Broadcast live from the Red Bull eSports Studio in Santa Monica, the N.A. qualifiers will be a series of tournament days only open to North American competitors. One winner will ultimately emerge from the finals, guaranteeing them a shot at the Grand Finals.

Event info

Global Online Qualifiers

This competition is open to anyone globally. When all is said and done, six top players from around the world will square off in a unique, 3-day tournament, competing for a $10k prize purse and a spot at the Battle Grounds Final in Washington, D.C. later this year.

Event info

Online Open Qualifiers

A free-for-all open to any and all regions. Four winners from the multiple days of match play will meet to decide, once and for all, which of them earns a place at the Grand Finals.

Event info

Atlanta

An open, 3-day competition taking place in the heart of the South. Players will be fighting for their piece of a $25,000 prize, and a seat at the Battle Grounds Final in Washington, D.C. at year's end.

Event info

Detroit

128 players will convene for an open, 3-day competition smack dab in the middle of the Motor City. Players will be fighting for their piece of the $25,000 prize pool and a ticket to Washington, D.C. in September.

Event info

Washington DC - Grand Final

It all leads up to this. Set over the course of two days, eight of the best players in the world will compete for the $50k grand prize and bragging rights in Washington, D.C.

Event info

  • August 22 – 24 - Detroit

Well, as I was talking about it on IRC, the Global Qualifier is a bit confusing:

2nd – $100
3rd/4th – $50

Maybe the 200/100/50 is for each of the 4 mini-qualifiers and the 10k is for the grand finals of each set of qualifiers? Otherwise I have no idea.

Or maybe one (the 10k) refers to the Global Online qualifiers and the other (200/100/50) is the Online Open qualifiers? The distinction isn't entirely clear so maybe it's the prize pool.

Amazing.

Best things:

1. Not too high a prize pool. esports are supposed to be sustainable and that's not possible with everyone losing money due to too high prize pools. It's still more than enough to feel rewarding. For people comparing with "moba"s, keep in mind that teams have 5 members.

2. Actual region locks. This should have been in place from the beginning.

3. Red bull. Nice to see a large corporate sponsor.

RedBull always puts on the best shows around with the highest production standards. Also, the opportunity here for NA players to build a name for themselves is something I'm really happy to see, really looking forward to it!

So I'm a bit confused... There are two offline events, one online NA event, and two online Global events, and then the D.C finals? Or are the finals of the "online" events held live at the Red Bull studios?
