For the second season in a row, EG's Jaedong suffered a shock upset to crash out of the WCS America Ro32. Instead of Jaedong, reigning WCS America champion Roccat.HyuN and Axiom's Heart claimed spots in the Ro16.
Jaedong had shown good form in the weeks leading up to WCS America, winning Lone Star Clash 3 and taking fourth at DreamHack Bucharest. Many expected Jaedong to make up for the disappoinment of WCS Season 1, but such hopes were quickly dampened by a 1-2 loss to Heart to start. Sent down to the loser's match to face iG.Jim, Jaedong was forced to surrender out of WCS America after facing a series of ruthless all-ins from the Chinese Protoss.
Up in the winner's match, HyuN looked a worthy defending champion by defeating Heart 2-1 to take first place in the group. That left Heart and Jim to fight for the second ticket to the Ro16 in what would be very close series. After splitting the first two games 1-1, Jim took an early lead in game three with crippling early-game immortal attack. However, Heart used his superior tech to overcome his early economic losses, utilizing drops to pull himself back into the game. Following his drops with an all-or-nothing SCV pull all-in, Heart was able to barely squeeze the GG out of Jim to advance to the Ro16.
Next game day - Group F: Alicia, TooDming, Illusion, hendralisk
Players qualified for Ro16:
Pigbaby, Oz
Revival, NesTea, viOLet, Check, HyuN
Bomber, TaeJa, Heart

I expected JD to perform poorly but last place?

D'worry, it's Jaedong. He always bounces back.
|
Jaedong breaking my heart
|
Good perf by Heart though.

Soon it'll stop being an upset that Jaedong falls out of the ro32.

He need some good KeSPA style training regime and support of a coach to become the one he was in Brood War. I expect JD to not prolong the contract with EG and getting back on KeSPA team this November/December.

I rather think HotS is the "innocent issue". The same in a family with 3 kids, the oldest and youngest kid are getting more help/attention from parents than the midde kid. I feel too that teams are not really interested in sc2 as in WoL, maybe everyone waits on LotV.

Poor Dong. He can't seem to do well in Premiere. In the games I saw from Heart (only watched until the 2nd winner's match), he really exceeded my expectations. He is pretty good nowadays.

Honestly JD would not go back to a Korean team most likely, since then he wouldnt be sent to tournaments constantly like right now, which he loves. So he would probably if he left EG try to join Liquid.
|
Put these things in spoilers please on the front page
|
Jaedong has to crush the rest of the tournaments now, to get to Blizzcon. But I know he can do it!
|
if JD left EG for Liquid Acer or Kespa, prob only Polt and Taeja would have even a chance at stopping him EG curse OP plz nerf
|
EG curse is gaining on him~ nooooh~

I disagree. If there's an unlucky middle child, it's probably Starcraft 2 as a whole, since it's inevitable that Starcraft 3 will eventually exist. But this isn't really the thread to discuss that. This is a thread to marvel at how the hell Heart became this good. Impact's improvement must have really helped the whole house in practice.

Damn, I may have accidentally jinxed JD yesterday, either that or Chinese and Taiwanese tosses seem to be a special kind of kryptonite for Jaedong. Grats to Hyun and Heart though. Anyway, time to say a couple of prayers and meditate on this.

Just think: JD could've been getting, uh, "hot soup and massage" the last few months instead of practising 16 hours a day and still ended up in the same place. Talk about bad life choices.

Well, JD got a map, which is better than nothing.

he became one of the best zerg of 2013 without that. he performed excellent the last few weeks without that.
it honestly doesn't have to do with bad training or lack of training.

JD's playstyle gets hard-countered by Chinese Toss. He plays a really greedy early game and their cheeses just take advantage of that. I was hoping he'd beat Heart and avoid Jim. TT

greed is not his problem, getting 4gated on alterzim doesn't make you greedy

Agreed. The builds were fine in all games, the execution just wasn't there this time.

Though I must agree that he tends to play greedy or chesse in the early game most of the time. Not unusual to see him opening 3 hatch before pool or making an early pool.

Let this be a lesson to you. You never quite know when you'll suffer a Heart attack.

Oh TB you so punny.
Honestly I was worried for Heart when he ended up in this group and I'm glad he pulled through. Here's hoping he and Alicia can make it to the RO8 and maybe even further!

Heart was supposed to win the group but Hyun went even more TSL than Heart did in the last two games of the winner's match. Still both ex-TSL advanced so I'm happy.

jaedonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng
i guess meeting hyun again is a consolation prize

Still a LONG Starcraft Year for 2014. Yea he is out for the second time in WCS but there are so many tournaments out there he's going to participate in so im not worried about him getting into blizzcon. He will be fine. Im sure he is pissed at himself but sometimes when these things happen it is a serious motivator to destroy and rek everything else. Look foward to seeing him at DH

Expected Hyun to have it.
Didn't expect Heart to make it. Good for him.
