Personally I would love to see more people getting in based on qualifiers, perhaps 75% or so, and then of course I think it is nice that organizers can invite fan favorites, the local heroes and such on top of that. Obviously there would be more work for the organizers to hold such qualifiers, but at the same time, such qualifiers would also attract viewers like myself.
The real disadvantage I see with the current system, where 80% or so can get in on an invite, is that players who are less known, or don't know the organizers well, or aren't so much liked for whatever real or imagined reason, may never get any invites anywhere. Not saying that it happens in this particular tournament, just saying that it would be a bit more fair to all players out there, trying to make a living, if the number of players that could get in through qualifiers increased drastically. Also, having more players from qualifiers than invites would in a sense automatically give more legitimacy to any tournament with WCS points.

The other option is to win WCS a few times and get invited yourself. That's a bit harder, but might be a good way to do it if you're recovering from alcohol abuse or are not of legal drinking age.
Or you could just do it the noob way and go to the bar

8 qualifier spots are already doubling the expected amount from Blizzard standards for WCS points.
also with qualifiers you have the problem that you cant pay travel costs for everyone and then you have people that deserve a spot that cant attend. Which happened in 4 cases for this HSC. It doesnt help anyone if lesser known players qualify but they cant afford to attend because they dont have a team. And TaKeTV cant afford to pay it either, HSC is already unprofitable on its own.
Invites are a neccesity in the current situation for esports. You invite the players than can afford to come.

To be clear the requirement is 25% (4) of the top 16 spots must be attainable through qualifiers. I don't think it's evident that the amount is a constant 4 players for every tournament size. Every 32 player WCS Global Event so far has had a minimum of 8 qualifier spots.
