The second WCS America Premier League of the year opened up Groups A and B, which saw Pigbaby, CMStorm_Revival, RedBull_Bomber, and NesTea advance to the live Ro16.
Pigbaby was the first player to advance to the Ro16 on opening night, as he defeated both Revival and EG.HuK with relative ease. Pigbaby showed versatility in his 2-0 of Revival, using an immortal all-in to take one game while using a strong late game composition of void rays and phoenixes to win the other.
Against HuK in the winner's match, Pigbaby split two games trying to go for early attacks against HuK's blink tech, before closing out the series in a long macro game on Frost. Pigbaby's archons proved better than HuK's storms, and he grabbed a spot in the next round.
Despite losing his initial match to Pigbaby, Revival came through in second place. He was more than up to the task of defeating Liquid`HerO and HuK, winning by a combined score of 4-0. Mutalisk-corruptor play figured in heavily for Revival, with neither of his opponents being able to find an answer.
Just as many people predicted, Group B saw RedBull_Bomber advanced in first place after edging past MaSa 2-1 and manhandling Crank 2-0.
In the first series, Bomber was on the ropes several times, but the old veteran’s decision making was better at crucial moments. ROOT.MaSa looked like he had a chance of scoring the upset at times, such as when he killed 20 SCVs with banshee harassment or cleverly timed a big drop just as Bomber tried to move out. However, Bomber was able to keep his cool on both occasions, calmly defending being more counter-attacking to take the victory.
Bomber would have a much easier time against AX.CranK in the winner's match. In game 1, Bomber opened with an unusually quick second barracks and pumped out a bunch of marines. Catching CranK off-guard, Bomber was able to trade these marines for a mothership core, a sentry, and a handful of workers… twice. As a result, Protoss fell too far behind and Bomber simply rode his trademark macro to an easy victory. Bomber would go on to finish off CranK on Frost, where he used a Polt-esque multi-pronged attack to pressure both the natural and the third. Lacking enough units, Crank could not defend both fronts and was knocked down to the decider match.
Although many predicted CranK to advance, it was instead NesTea who survived to take 2nd place. Suffering an initial defeat to Crank, Nestea went on to make short work of MaSa in the loser's match. Nestea easily took game one by countering MaSa's gold-float on Habitation Station with a drone rush, and then went on to simply overwhelm MaSa with sheer numbers of muta-ling-bane on Frost.
That earned Nestea a rematch against Crank in the final series, where he avenged his earlier loss to win an Ro16 spot. This included a 30+ min game on King Sejong Station where Nestea surprised CranK with a 33 mutalisk switch and won the game with a brilliant engagement at his fifth base. Finally, After a few close calls on Frost, Nestea finished off Crank’s army with a surround and advanced into the Ro16.

It's so funny how stacked with non-americans WCS-Am is. I don't think it's a bad thing though. Nestea needs to win this!!! :D
I shed a tear for Hero though! Hope Taeja can make it through, but i think his group looks manageable

I can't believe how good Nestea played after being crushed in the first series against Crank.

Over 30, married, barely playing and... kicking pros out of premier tournaments. Not bad

Amazing to see that Nestea is still going strong! He is the oldest active progamer (sans White-Ra but he doesn't play in tournaments much), and he is still making plays and getting results. It is really crazy to see!
Also really feel bad for Masa, really tough group draw

I really don't understand how Nestea keeps doing this.

I've never watched a Nestea game live.
Thank you Nestea and WCS AM for giving me this magical opportunity to right a moral and ethical wrong.
Obligatory Bomber ftw.
