WCS Europe welcomed back two of its most popular players as EG.Stephano and EG.DeMusliM earned qualification for the Season 2 Premier League. Stephano was able to defeat mouz.Starbuck 3-1, making his Premier League comeback after three seasons in quasi-retirement. Demuslim defeated XMG.Lilbow, qualifying for his first WCS EU Premier League after switching from the WCS America region.
Meanwhile, the Korean duo ofYoDaand Ai.Patience made their European excursion worth their while, taking over Empire|Kas and Fnatic.Miniraser's spots in the Premier League.
EU can have almost perfect 12-10-10 distribution, holy shit.

Well, 2013 wasn't bad for certain Alliance guy. :p Or certain EG kong as well.
Stephano, as he said on his twitter and facebook account, is still in retirement and just plays for fun. Will go back to university soon, so this is just temporary - unfortunately. I liked the "Charlie Sheen" of Starcraft

Cheers y'all.
He happens to be on holiday from school at the moment, so he decided to try the WCS qualifiers a few weeks ago on a whim now that he has a limited period of free time. He'll probably stop once school starts up again for him.

Koreans still win this season again. >_>
Must be heartbreaking for other foreign players (those who play 10+ games day) to see a retired guy, out of nowhere, just grabbing a premier spot like that

Lol, 10? 50 is standard.
Not when you play 30+ minute macro fests every time
That game 4 between Stephano & Starbuck! SH/Viper vs BL/Ultra absolutely crazy! Poor Starbuck... "I absolutely refuse to play sh" Great games between those two though!

I think you mean 30+ minute TURTLE fests.
Only good part about Stephano being back is that it increases the chances of swarm hosts being nerfed dramatically.

Or maybe they aren't putting much effort to improve and take a premier's spot ? I know, it's easier said than done, especially compared to korean's gaming houses and the likes, but I know a lot of semi pros who are simply lazy.

when retirement means spamming ladder games, quite a few people.
I don't think Stephano's preparation was anywhere near what we would expect from a pro player. Pros don't really consider streaming as a proper preparation. They have to study their opponent, prepare with their team mates, prepare some custom strats for their opponent (which do need to be kept off stream), etc... Stephano was pretty much playing for fun and only on stream.

Stardust went from the army to premier league. Nestea went from a B-teamer/Coach to 3 time GSL Champion.
How can these be comparable ? Nestea, as much as I love him, was part of a Starcraft team and had no other occupation after SC2 was released. Also the time spam was much bigger and SC2 was a new game, so being coach at the end of BW era did not really hurt him, more likely it helped him transition more easily.
Edit: That said, after watching some of his stream, I don't think he really can be in the top of the top in Premier league (provided he still has time). But you got to give credits where they are due.
God, so much nostalgia... Best year of foreign StarCraft 2 that we had. All the shenanigan videos from EG, Stephano having the best time of his life and most importantly we still had foreign players to win tournaments. Good ol' times!
On topic: GOGO STEPHANO! Winning a WCS title while studying would be pretty epic! :D
This is not going to happen, but wouldn't it be awesome if Stephano could make it all the way to the final using only SH? He would be both killing and rejuvenating the game at the same time thanks to his presence.
It's great Stephano made it, but i don't get it. Is he still on EG? According to the EG HP he isn't (klick me). According to Liquipedia he isn't either. I'm confused. It doesn't matter all that much anyway, I guess I'd just like to know

Wai, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... Stephano is back? He really is back? Really? Shieeeeeeet, I gotta come back into the scene too now *__*

nah, he just plays a bit retired for fun and rapes progamers 3-0 cause he is fucking imba ^^ (and also his enemy refuses to use sh^^)

He only streams on break, and he pretty much only plays when he streams, So we may see a week of streams then 2 weeks of none, then off and on after-university streams Like others said before me, there was no preparation specifically for the match, he did not study Starbuck, he just reacted perfectly.

He still Streams for EG, since he has hours left on his contract (I don't know how many more) but since he is/was retired, he really wouldn't be on any team. :D
Demuslim made it. Fuck yeah :D im so happy for that guy, we need more terrans this days. And Stephano such a Boss he is in super Yolo-mode "Im to good in this game, i came from retirement and take premier spot" Best player and foreigner eu had in years, yeah fuck you NaniWa.
But to be honest Stephano never "really" retires, he just leave pro scene to spam ladder games, i can say he is even in better shape than his retirement thing.
Quite glad Demuslim made it to premier, now it'd be so cool if he could go far! Happy for Stephano as well, it just makes me laugh a bit how he can just crash in WCS EU just like that, out of nowhere (well, publicly, we don't really know how much effort he put into it). Very nice to see YoDa as well!
Stephano said on stream that he'd be fined by EG for something he'd said to Dan (I think it was) in French - at least he's made up for it for hitting premier league. Ha.

to be fair he played last 9 months more then many pros ^^
Like who? He only played on stream and he didn't stream that much. In fact his streaming numbers are out there so we can probably see exactly how much he played. He has been practicing for sure, we have seen him. But not like a full time player and there were months on end where he didn't play at all.

I'm sure he's been playing regularly but isn't he trying to get into medical school or something like that? I thought that was the reason for his retirement.

It's an engineering school. And like he said in his interview before the match yesterday, last week he was in vacations in Tunisia so he couldn't practice until 2 or 3 days before the Challenger League.
