Challenger League play began today in WCS America. The region was as usual a bit of a melting pot with a solid mix of Korean, American, and Chinese players duking it out to claim four spots in this season's Premier League.
viOLet, ROOTIllusion, iG.Jim, and ZOO.Courage, advanced from the Challenger matches to make Season 2 of WCS America Premier League.
desRow put up a decent fight against Violet, playing a close macro game in Game one on Overgrowth and taking Game three with strong DT play. However, Violet looked superior in longer matches, winning easily on King Sejong Station and utilizing a swarm host/static defense style to outlast desRow on Frost in the final game. Illusion stomped JYP in a slight upset, winning all three games quickly with early bio pushes and drops. JYP looked utterly lost against the aggressive play of Illusion and dropped out of Challenger for Season 2.
Jim was able to convincingly defeat SeleCT 3-1. His phoenix colossus composition took SeleCT off guard in game 1, a fake blink attack into DTs demolished SeleCT in game 3, and a double-oracle 4-gate build managed to seal the deal for the Chinese Protoss. SeleCT can take solace in the fact that he did win the longest game of the series, a macro game on Frost against Jim's trademark phoenix/colossus style. Finally, Courage dominated TheStC 3-0 to secure his first ever trip into Premier League using a mix of roach and ling/baneling play.
WCS America Premier League Players Seeded from Season 1 (16)
Alicia, Arthur, CranK, HuK, MacSed, Oz, puCK
Bomber, Heart, Neeb, Polt, TaeJa
HyuN, Revival, TooDming, XiGua
Challenger League Winners
viOLet, Illusion, Jim, Courage, 12 TBD

All pretty much expected. Thought the Courage/StC would be closer and that JYP would advance. Mostly I'm just sad about SeleCT

the only result that surprises me is JYP but Illusion can play some really good games so I guess it's not a huge shocker. Grats to all the players that advanced!

Koreans dropping out... Always weird to see

Illusion had the absolute sickest timings against JYP. He said he spent a lot of time practicing, and it certainly showed. I came away with a much higher opinion of him as a player than I used to have.

Fuck yeah Illusion! Kid is super good! Grats to Violet too, good to see him back in form.
ALSO CHINA!
|
This makes me worry for JYP... D:
|
yesssss!!!! Team China!!!!
|
Yowza! Violet making his comeback!
|
Illusion is super talented. seeing him advance isn't a huge surprise.

Jyp so irrelevant lately
|
As an EG fan it was hard to see JYP go down so easily but as an American and a Terran, I love seeing Illusion look so dominant. I hope Chris can do some damage in Premier. He's always had so much potential. Now I can't wait to see Suppy play.

Violet
My predictions for the other players were awful though, haha.

Wow Illusion. Gogo Jim. Well tried desRow.

does someone knows when JYP's contrat ends? wouldn't be surprised if it were his last :/
|
Wow, that Illusion upset! Also, I'd like to point out that challenger seems to be getting a significant amount of foreigners into premier this season. Yay for diversity!

maybe he should leave EG and joing a proleague team where his teamleague qualities come to shine.

Yeah idk what's up with him. I figured with the form he had been showing in team league he could finally turn the corner and get into premier

The JYP result doesn't surprise me at all. Chris is crazy good and has put in a ton of practice.

dat eu practise making illusion better and better #Europeforthewin

I feel bad for desRow, two seasons in a row of Koreans for his promotion. He looked pretty good against Violet though.
