As many may have predicted, ESL will continue to produce WCS AM in addition to WCS EU even after season 1 has finished. Season 2 and 3 will be produced and broadcasted from their new 7000 square foot studio in Los Angeles, USA.
Nathan “Nathanias” Fabrikant and Kevin “Rotterdam” van der Kooi will be the commentators for WCS AM and are the newest additions to the ESL family.
Rotterdam's statement:
“Two years ago I moved to California to cast StarCraft. It's been a bumpy road but I’ve started to feel more and more at home. I was definitely a little worried about everything but I'm very happy ESL reached out and asked me to continue casting WCS. Casting WCS has been fun from the get-go and I'm excited to put up a kick ass show with the new ESL America people. Thanks for keeping me on board and I can't wait to do the first shows from our new place!”
Nathanias' statement:
As not only a commentator but a player who has competed in many American competitions and open brackets, it's a great pleasure of mine to cover the best of the best from the American region and take part in crowning my region's champion. Many of these players are good friends of mine so I couldn't ask for a better tournament to work on! ESL has done a fantastic job with WCS Europe and we'll see nothing but equivalent excellence from the new American studio, I look forward to having a home port for WCS Production through them.”

As expected, I'll be waiting for the Seoul studio now. Rotterdam back at ESL is also great.
A nickname for the casting duo is hard though

Things are about to get #dicey with Rotterdam continuing to cast WCS AM!

I propose we use a new naming method... Instead of using half of the first part of a name combined with the last half of the other name we use the last half and then the first half... + Show Spoiler +

Heh... do you play Hearthstone? If so, that would be oddly topical... DAMN YOU NAT PAGLE

Nathaniassss! So well deserved! Awesome to see ESL take the reigns of this, though. It will be tough operating on two different sides of the world, but it allows for a single company to get revenue and exposure and being able to build a brand, rather than have 3-4 different companies handling WCS and other events.
Maybe this means more IEMs in America (when coupled with Carmac's interview with onGamers)?

Yeah, this sounds awesome! Go Rottinath! And if you're playing along to Day9's Pokemon, Medicine, Ancient Historian game, I'd say that's a Pokemon for sure!

Sounds good to me. I've started watching WCS while I work out and ESL's VOD system for it is perfect (the whole entire series in one video thing).

I hope that 7,000 sq. foot studio includes lots of space for fans. An audience really makes WCS matches seem more exciting.

The broadcast studio, capable of seating hundreds of live visitors, will be the new command center of WCS America, but home to some familiar faces.

nice to see Blizzard going with the safest option with the longest and best track record. it probably makes the ESL the most expensive option. good on Blizzard for stepping up to the plate and knocking one out of the park.
is this studio actually within LA itself or is it in any one of the 387837 suburbs of LA? if it is then the land its on will be expensive and so it'll be interesting to see what they do with this new studio during the off season.
|
really enjoyable and good commentators. GL guys

Really great that Nathanias got that job, would have been really sad to see him go due lack of work, since he is a really good, passionate and hard working caster.
|
|
Does anyone know what MrBitter is up to these days?
|
This isn't helping the Nathanias as discount Mr. Bitter conspiracy theories.
Congrats to Nathanias, though - steady gig doing what you love. Also, good luck to Rotti, ESL, and entire team.
Also, wait... 7000 sq ft LA studio?? Will there be a live studio audience?
To the above, Mr. Bitter is with Redbull. They gave him wings.
|
that picture is pretty awesome, looks like Rotty brought Nathanias something from the Netherlands
good news though. anything in ESL's hands tends to be good.

WOOHOO! Nathanias AND Rotterdam?! This is great :') Although LA is too far away for me to visit
|
Nathanias gets a day job casting WCS AM?! Shiiit, it's almost like they want me to tune in and watch the show.

Naterdam. done, you are welcome, and yes, as if i wasn't watching before, this guarantees it. Appointment viewing.

Pretty much a foregone conclusion, but sweet nonetheless. Time to move to LA so I can watch every week

This will be epic! Gratz to RotterdaM and Nathanias, I got to talk with RotterdaM during WCS Season 2 Global Finals in Cologne last year (he signed my Liquid shirt, jay!) and he's such a great guy.
Now the Amerikoreans get the studio, audience and casters they deserve, I will definitely tune in.
|
Nathaniassss!! :D I love Nathanias's casting!! it's so similar to orb's casting (RIP orb). congrats to both ESL and Nathanias on season 2 of wcs am!
|
So when is ESL buying GOM?
|
Why would they do this? ESL is doing awesome job in EU, but how on earth will the WCS AM ever be profitable for them? This sounds like madness, but if they can get it working, all props to them...

I thought a Seoul studio would be more likely than one in the US. I thought the costs would be much higher in the US. I guess its more of a language barrier for ESL in Korea.

congrats to the both casters.

because mr. Bitter left WCS for Redbull. Doesnt seem like he could do both.

Now, all that's left is for Blizz to buy the SCII portion of ESL. Then the merging will be complete.

NatherdaM ftw! Thanks to ESL for saving WCS AM and NA SC2 in general. Glad these 2 great casters have found a good home, and look forward to seeing what ESL can do in the American scene from here on out. Hope things work out for them.
Oh and Seoul studio would be epic, but I would hope that wouldn't happen so quickly because I want this expansion to be a success and not follow the way of NASL

This is great News I always liked the way ESL ran there leagues and tournaments and its nice to see them over here in the NA scene.
Could this also mean that we will see a return of the sc2 leagues and cups on the ESL NA website?

7k sq ft is a huge studio lol.

Get ready for the Notherdam!!! :D
7000ft studio ... Is thate big... or just sounds big?
And glad to see these guys finding a job, and helping keep sc2 breathing :D

2 Bedroom apt is around ~800-1000 sq ft. Townhome is up to ~1200 or so. Fair sized 4 bedroom split level gets up to ~2000.
So imagine the size of 3-4 homes. Need room for offices, equipment, stage, caster desks, etc.
Could not find how big GomTV Gangnam studio was.

Congrats to both of them; it's great to see that WCS America will have top-tier casters.

I am so happy ESL is saving WCS America.
Also, I am really happy for Nathanias. He has made so many strides as a caster over the past year, and now he has a consistent job with a presigious Esports company. He worked hard to get to this position, ,but it is well-deserved.

ESL should come up with a new banner for WCSAM now. How about "WCS America - brought to you by ze germanz". I wonder what Blizz would've done if ESL hadn't picked up the show. Gone to MLG? Ran it themselves? Cancelled WCSAM altogether?
