Pretty good interview. I hope Flash is able to translate his success in practice to greater success in tournaments. What makes me a bit sad is being from the Brood War era originally, growth in popularity in Korea for SC2 is still nowhere near Brood War's popularity back in the ay. There's many reasons for this, especially the rise of MOBAs, issues between KESPA and Blizzard, etc., so while it's not surprising, it is nonetheless somber.

I just hope that a lot of those games were against Wooki.

I've been seeing a lot of ppl use Inven ranking as a source lately, without really understanding what they're citing... It needs to be clarified that Inven ranking is not an "online playing time" ranking. It's a very strange ranking that comprises of online playing time and exposure, via ads, television, etc. So since Blizzard pumps a lot of money in SC2 advertisement, and Proleague is on TV practically every day, SC2's Inven ranking is much higher than other games that have much more online activity.

If you want to judge the amount of exposure Koreans get to SC2 relative to other games, then sure, use Inven. But otherwise, please use Gametrics instead. This is not to say that SC2's popularity hasn't risen, because it has, but it's getting very annoying to see the Inven ranking data being used inappropriately.

The online game played time ranking on inven

What games are above it, i can only think of like 3?

There are some korean games so i can't name them all but a few of them are warcraft 3,broodwar, diablo 3, wow, cs clone, league of legends and probably a few i forgot

I don't know a single character of Korean, but as far as I've been able to tell from random pattern recognition with translated game titles, the top 10 are League of Legends, Sudden Attack, FIFA Online 3, Lineage, Dungeon Fighter, Diablo 3, Aion, Blade & Soul, ??? and Eos.

Ye that is pretty accurate, I just remember some games from a long time ago when someone actually translated these, if i remember correctly BW is at rank 11(long time ago)

They clearly need to get better practice partners for Flash if they want him to continue improving. You don't learn much with a 97% winrate. Maybe if they get sos as practice partner, Flash will only win 85% of his practice games?

This

These Rankings get amazingly manipulated by ad exposure, Sc2 isn't as bad as Arvick makes it sound with ad exposure as some of those top ranked games tho, LoL, Aion, Lineage and EoS have massive amounts of ad exposure and considering those games list anywere from 1st to 9th, it makes the top 10 alone very blurred if you're thinking "played popularity"

I honestly dont trust Gametrics either though, but a hell of a lot more accurate than inven considering their system.

gametrics seems like a pretty legitimate source. their data comes from a really really good sample size. out of 15,817 PC Bangs in Korea they took a sample size of 4000 with geographic randomization. Of course this is only PC Bang statistics but given Korea's culture of PC Bang I'd have to say a lot of what you play at home you probably also play at PC Bang.

Singleplayer games are under represented in PCBangs today compared to 10 years ago as it is a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to buy a PC in Korea today than it use to be.

Dont get me wrong, for PCBang only stats Gametrics is great, its just games you play alone or online mostly alone, dont get as much time in PCBangs as they use to.

Been a few times lately including Flash's anniversary. Really starting to get the old vibe of BW audiences with the rejuvenated fangirl count, I also prefer the new Gangnam studio to Yongsan. The cheerleaders help to bring in a few creepy guys too.

68-2 winrate? It's taken a while, but I think GOD is back!

Now all he has to do is pull it off outside of practice in more then one match up

Either that or he should play something like Bo50 against his opponents :D

That is really crazy good win rate if he is telling the truth, and I have no reason to doubt Flash and his integrity.

I hope he gets to the level he deserves in individual leagues as well because he is obviously a very hard working player.

68/70 is a stupidly high win rate, even for practice. I wonder if those were ladder or customs.

I want to assume customs, because otherwise that would be a ridic amount of ladder games. But then again, I don't know over how many days this was. Regardless, that's truly an incredibly winrate

Solar confirmed on his stream that, just like brood war, no top korean bothers much with ladder. They mainly use customs as it's way more efficient practice, especially for a format like proleague and code s.

i'm not sold, a lot of very good players often say that to prepare for matches they focus on the basics and practiced on ladder rather than with specific players

I wonder if trench coats with ESPORTS written in fluorescent pink lettering can be bought in Korea to show just how much they care
