WCS Europe's Group F saw a duo of fan-favorites in (Z)Liquid`TLO and (P)Grubby advance to the Ro16. (P)Genius, a semifinalist in the previous WCS season, was unable to clear the hurdle of cross server lag and fell out in third place. (T)Kas, Empire's long-tenured Ukrainian Terran, failed to break the Ro32 barrier in his third WCS Premier League try.

TLO advanced in first place by playing solely ZvP's, the match-up he called his best in the post-match interview. The only loss TLO suffered on the night was at the hands of Genius' gateway all-in on Daedalus Point.

Grubby's journey to the Ro16 was much more difficult and prolonged. After suffering a 0-2 defeat to TLO in his first match, Grubby fought a nail-biting elimination series agaisnt Kas in the loser's match. Game two on Heavy Rain ended up being the highlight game of the night, with Kas just barely winning a semi-base trade after forty in-game minutes. Kas then very nearly eliminated Grubby in the following game after holding off a proxy-oracle all-in, but Grubby managed to pull off a risky double-expansion to eventually win in the late game.

After surviving an elimination scare at the hands of Kas, Grubby followed it up by immediately going down 0-1 against Genius in the final match of the night. However, Grubby was able to rally back and take the series 2-1 and claim his Ro16 spot.

Players Qualified for Ro16
Protoss (6): MC, BabyKnight, San, BlinG, StarDust, Grubby
Terran (3): Bunny, jjakji, Dayshi
Zerg (3): Nerchio, VortiX, TLO

Next game day:
Group G: (T)Mvp, (Z)Snute, (P)HasuObs, (Z)FireCake

edit, all good lol!!
Anyways this group very well could take 37 days to play out if Swarm Hosts and Siege Tanks and Death balls collide!

Group G isn't for over a month??? What the hell!

Yeah it's a shame but it's because there's quite a few other events going on right now also for WCS Points. WCS Katowice, TeamStory Cup and I'm sure I'm missing some other ones.

That description makes it sound like the only thing standing between Genius and Grubby was cross server lag. That's simply not the case. There were no major hiccups by Genius due to latency, Grubby won by playing better than him.

Liquipedia and the counter at the TL sidebar both say it's in 1 D 8 H. They probably just made a mistake in the article.

uh no, they wouldnt make these kind of exceptions for 8 people (group g+h) in an online qualifier. it is very very likely a mistake in the article. liquipedia says its tomorrow.

Am I the only one who really dislikes these statements? We had the same in previous previews and recaps: Sure the cross server lag is an issue for those playing from Korea. But first of all it is their own decission to play in WCS EU from KR. However what I get more irritated about: again it isn't even considered that they were simply beaten because others played better. Apparantly the idea what a European beats a high level Korean is so weird that it must be lag, it cannot possibly be just skill.

Genius beat Grubby 2-1 in WCS Season 3 groups last year. Nice to see Grubby turn it around!

I totally agree... I get it that last year our hopes of a foreigner champion were destroyed, but can we have a more positive mindset now? Can we say - Europe holds!!! - instead of - our fate is doomed no matter what?

Not just FireCake though, Snute also does Swarm Host, HasuObs is the most defensive player ever and MVP has also been one of the Terrans that consistently have done well, with not going all out balls to the wall aggressive.

Couldn't agree more just well played by both of them (Grubby and TLO). They worked hard for that so lets not talk about lag, lets talk about progression !
