As posted on the ROOT website, State has left ROOT to pursue his opportunities in Korea. The breakup is mutual and is related to State wanting to stay in Korea and find a place for himself there.
After joining ROOT in August of 2013, Ryan "State" Visbeck has made great strides as a player. He showed some impressive play at IEM New York, taking maps from both DRG and Flash, and moved to Korea to train with fOu in December. After fOu disbanded, he managed to get a spot in the Prime house, and has been streaming regularly and releasing a lot of replay packs. Earlier this week he hit Top 50 GM on the Korean ladder. State is a great player, and we are sad to announce that Ryan and ROOT are officially parting ways.
What CatZ had to say:
We're really happy to have had State as a member of our team and to have supported him as best as we could. Ryan's goal at the moment is to stay in Korea and ROOT isn't able to support him as well as we'd both like to overseas. For this reason, as his contract with us has ended, we've mutually decided not to renew and part ways.
Ryan will always be a part of our family and we're pretty sad about losing him, but we'll continue to root for him and know that he has everything to become one of the best players out there. Even though State won't be wearing our jersey anymore, as others before him, Ryan will stay in our ROOT Skype chat, practicing and chilling with us FOREVER.
State's word:
During our 6 months together, ROOT has felt like a family more than anything. Living and training at the team house was one of the best experiences of my life, and what I learned there helped prepare me for the time ahead in Korea. Without the support of ROOT Gaming and its sponsors, I wouldn't have the opportunities that I have today. Though I love ROOT Gaming, my focus right now is training in Korea and earning the chance to play for a Korean team.
Thank you to CatZ, Rob Collins and all the ROOT players and staff for what has been amazing journey. There’s a bright future ahead for all of us, and I can’t wait to keep chasing this crazy dream with all of you.
When asked State said his plans were to stay in Korea through 2014, currently training at Prime.

State in Proleague would be cool!

He seem like he would fit with Liquid, doubt any korean team will actually pay him unless they see a lot of potential

Looks like he is too optimistic. Obviously State has a skill but beating DRG and Flash as many patchTosses do is not significant and unexpected. Wish all the best and hopefully he will prove his name though shouldn't make quick decision before Toss will get fixed.

Flash DID have the highest TvT record and most wins that season. Even just being a practice partner for a Kespa team is a great thing though. Major is doing pretty well now, so hopefully he benefit from the experience and environment.

How exciting!
State has been around for long.. maybe it's finally his turn?!

State has the potential to make it big in the pro scene.

The logical progression of a North American player:
Play alone in home -> Join ROOT gaming house -> Join Korean Team house -> ??? -> Profit.
|
wow really good, i hope Prime picks him up and we see him in SPL!
|
Awesome to see him going for it all. Good luck State!
|
Best of luck kid, hope you find yourself a team and manage to claim some solid scalps on the biggest stage there is. Remember to work hard on your korean, slacking is for north americans that stay in north america!

Brave boy, he will turn back as a man.

GL State, was always on of the better NA Protosses, which KR would find potential in him.

I wish him best of luck in his decision. This guy is one to watch. Take a look at his stream twitch.tv/statesc2. He's being playing impressive.
|
PrimeState has a nice ring to it
|
GL State, I think this is an awesome choice. I'd have to think for someone who is serious about pro gaming, staying and competing in Korea would be such a memorable experience regardless of what "results" you post.
|
Good luck State, have really been enjoying your play recently particularly at Game On.
|
living in korea would be such a change, goodluck State, hopefully Prime will pick u up!

ROOT, giving players the [RED BULL!!!!] wings to leave the nest

Good luck to him and I hope Prime signs him.

I had the pleasure of meeting state in a bar after IEM New York and having quite a long chat with him. Really nice guy. He said back then he wanted to go back to Korea. Glad he managed to get there. He seems extremely level headed and dedicated. I really hope he does well in Korea and becomes one of the top foreigners.
Good Luck State!
