sOs and TaeJa have been invited to compete at the upcoming IEM World Championshipin Katowice. They will take the tournament's only two invite spots, awarded on the strength of their performances in 2013.
IEM:
...Much like the invites to the rest of our stops, we decided invitations for the World Championship have to be based on performance in major tournaments WCS circuit tournaments. As such, we picked the most relevant tournaments of the past six months and invited the champions of the WCS Global Finals at BlizzCon as well as DreamHack Winter.
These two players will be joining the group of players who qualified by achieving top two finishes within the Intel Extreme Masters from June 2013 to March 2014. With the two players set to be determined at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne next week (February 13th to 16th) another five players are left to be determined as the CJ Entus player herO managed to get two Intel Extreme Masters championships within this season. The spot that has opened up for that was given to the Open Bracket on March 13th (see below for more information), meaning two players will have the chance to qualify on-site...
The list of qualified players so far is as follows:
Qualified from IEM Season 8 events: Oz, Revival, NaNiwa, Life, herO[jOin], San, MC Invited: sOs, TaeJa Asian qualifier winner: Rogue
Six spots still remain in the tournament. Two will go to the finalists of the upcoming IEM Cologne event, another two spots will go to the winners of the Europe and American qualifiers, and the final two spots will go to the winners of the live, open bracket.
The IEM World Championship will take place on March 14-16, with a winner-take-all $100,000 prize.

TaeJa for Terran Hope :D Really hoping to get some more Terrans through the remaining qualifiers. Also really like the Live Open Bracket. Reminds me a bit of MLG.
|
inb4 another oz revival finals
|
They've found a way to have a terran at World Championship :DD
|
sOs gets his second $100k paycheck.
|
The lack of terra is kinda sad :/
|
I hope Taeja brings his motivation. His gg's at Asus RoG were questionable at least.
edit: this sounds a bit harsh, but if he gives up quickly I'd rather have them invite someone like innovation to be the terran hope.

Phew, a Terran. I would not be surprised to see another one from this upcoming Cologne event though. Polt, ForGG, jjakji, and Innovation are all there! ... But, Dear, HerO, Classic, and Rain are there too. So nevermind!
Also, Naniwa as foreigner hope!! Think how wicked it'd be if a foreigner (aka Naniwa) took 1st place, claiming the WHOLE prizepool?!!!! SAFE TO SAY THAT WON'T HAPPEN.

No invite for elfi? Lame...

I'm sure he as he could 100k, he even said that he feels less motivated to try for 10k tournaments.

Down with are evil Terran overlords. The Age of Enlightenment is upon us. Protoss shall rule them all.
I'm happy sOs got invited, after winning Blizzcon he seemed to be forgotten. I'd like Scarlett to attend if she is willing (and qualifies), we need more foreigner hope for this tournament.

As much as I want to, it won't happen. I imagine top 8 for him depending on bracket

Wow! What's that sign in front of TaeJa's nickname? Is that a new race?

I don't know how anyone can argue that Naniwa won't be in the finals. Any other predictions would be foolish. He's the highest bitcoin earner in SC2 history!

Made my day :D

I honestly don't think that inviting another Protoss was a good idea, I know his is world champ and bla bla bla but they could have invited Mvp as second terran and hype wise he wouldn't be worth considerably less that sos and most importantly less PvP is better. I can only hope more T and Z will qualify and prove me wrong that I havent wasted my money on a PvP tournament I don't give two shits and a fuck about but I guess after seeing SuperNova vs Trap today I can sefely say I dont see a not brain dead protoss losing to a terran in those qualifiers so I will just root for zergs to save my self some frustration.

invite parting

Thank god a Terran! GO Taejaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Don't let those dirty Protoss take the money!
|
Well if no terran qualifies, we need to invite them! I get the point of tournament organizers, trying to make this not look like a 2race game. Reality is quite different though.

I'm foreseeing replacements. Aren't Revival and Oz still teamless? I don't think IEM covers full flight+hotel?

a winner-take-all $100,000 prize
You're going to host a winner-take-all with a protoss stacked tournament?
PvPs don't lead people to believe that the winners deserved it 100%, which is less of a problem when the prize pool isn't winner-take-all.
And who likes watching PvP? Imagine if the non-toss players get eliminated in the first round, what will happen to viewers?
|
Taeja! stop your balance whining Terran has got this in the bag had it not been for the trickster himself sOs :D 2 great invites
|
I'm surprised Yoda didn't get an invite. Sure, sOs and Taeja are better players and deserve it more. I just thought IEM always invites the defending champ to these.
|
No PartinGuuu
|
Man, i hope there will be some more Terrans, as the Matchups with Terran participation are the most exiting to watch atm...
|
no jaedong? or scarlett?
|
If TaeJa plays equally awful than in ASUS ROG it wont be pretty
|
Moar PvP! (cant care less....)
|
At least all the PvP/ZvZ will be fast. Same with PvZ (if not a lot of people go Swarm Host).

Naniwa has a habbit of coming second in incredibly stacked tournaments. If he comes second in this one it'll be the most bitter defeat ever

The viewers will most likely be eliminated in the first round aswell if that is the case.

I hope Maru plays in the open bracket. What's a 100k event without the best terran in the world
|
tefel is going to take the iem lol

sOs will get REKT, you read it here first.
|
Time for TaeJa to win a big tournament and stop complaining about winning only small prizes.
|
Better invite some Terran...
|
If Taeja wins a winner-take-all tournament as the only Terran that would be the sickest storyline ever.
|
i rly hope nani lose fast ... STOP dont understand me wrong i LOVE nani BUT if he went 2nd ... its the end of his career guys so i doubt he can win it so better lose early and not end 2nd 3rd etc something he wouldnt want to live with (in esport world)

Lol they have to invite a terran in order for one to be in a tournament.. Anyways go Taeja :D
|
There were already more protoss players than zergs and terrans combined. Makes sense to invite more protoss!
|
if maru could qualify that would be so great :D mayhaps for american spot :D or opentournement
gogo sos & Life !
|
sOs has been stepping up his games in pl, I think he deserves the seed I am just more concerned about the zergs, nowadays other than soulkey, no zerg is looking especially dominate.
|
Whoa this is looking like the GSL with the lack of terrans here
|
Aaah this would be good tournament for elfi
Actually pretty weak lineup so far
