After Socke's departure it looked like Team Alternate will leave SC2 completely. Yesterday they announced Kai "ZeroCool" Schmidt as their new SC2 manager and today they added 3 players to their lineup:
(P)KnowMe
(T)kauP
(P)Monty

Full news (in German) here.

Translation (in excerpts):
With KnowMe Team ALTERNATE could sign a talented player who has 14 years of experience in e-sports. KnowMe reached Grand Master League several times as Protoss and 2 top 12 rankings in the ESL Pro Series last year.
In addition to streaming his own games, KnowMe is also involved in scene casts, as a blog writer and caster.

Kaup is the 2nd new addition to the SC2 team. The 20-year-old Terran is regularly active in cups and could already achieve some strong finishes. In the EPS of last summer he could achieve a top 10 placement. Currently Kaup has been seen active in the Germany Cup.

Monty is one of the newcomers of last year. The Grand Master Protoss has great potential with his 19 years, which he showed already at the IEM Qualifier and the EPS Winter Season 2013 where he only just missed the Top 8.
Monty is active in the SC2 community, you can contact him on his stream and he can be found in various German Twitch channels.

i suppose socke simply was expensive or they couldnt outbid xmg, pretty weird to replace him with a worse toss otherwise

but gl i guess, kaup bas been okish for years now

New players! Hopefully Team Alt can nurture them well enough and turn them into great players like Socke.

Nice to see that Alternate is not shutting down completely, being a team that has been around in esports for so long already.

Because those players all have teams, probably with contracts?

But none of them are in a real proteam, afaik. Agreed, I don`t kow a lot about the contract situation of the mentioned players but I´m really wondering why Alternate did not try to be more ambitious with the squad. I mean they used to be the fiercest competitor of Mouz for years.

ESC, NrS and Planetkey Dynamics might not be EG, but if they pay their players, no matter how little, they're still 'professional'.

How is it meaningless? Socke had a better offer, so he took it - it seems like this is only their first batch of players, so there are more incoming for aTn. These might not be top level players, but they're still pretty good, and can hold their own in European team leagues, the German EPS and minor EU cups..

agreed, the professional was a bit dumb from my side. Still those are teams that I usually would rank significantly lower in the esport-clan pecking order(ESC might be pretty much on par)

Last time Socke posted here on TL about Alternate, he claimed that he was owed some money, so...

You can find the post or do you just make that up?

Hm, shit. I could swear I read something like that in one of the threads about Hyun being owed some money, and him also saying that it's not a lot of money and they are in no legally binding contract in the first place when asked why he doesn't persue legal matters. But seriously, why cannot I find it...? Maybe I am getting senile...

I am quite sure you somehow mixed up teams. Alternate has a quite good name as a team.

1 expensive player is probably better for business than 3 cheap ones. See keeping Jaedong instead of aLive, Oz, and Revival.

The problem is that other than bringing the facts to public attention the players have no power to do anything. And these swindling teams don't really give a fuck.

Also Alternate as a company is mostly operating in Germany. Getting three players that are at least somewhat known in Germany and regularly appear on German casts/tournaments/etc. can really be worthwhile for Alternate, although none of them has the international appeal of Socke.

well it seems that after TaKe left Alternate as a team manager at the end of 2012 the team fell apart and i dont know who replaced him(no one?). Whatever the situation at alternate sc2 was in 2013, fact is that every player left after their contract ran out.

"Zerocool" is the new manager for 2014 but it seems that when he started, Socke already found a better offer since Alternate was basically doing nothing but laying off all their players an entire year long.

Well those new players are nowhere near in skill and popularity compared to Socke, Darkforce and Cloud last year. Alternate basically went from Top 2 german team to maybe 6th best after Mouz, XMG, AI, ESC and Planetkey

Extremely weak lineup even for the German scene alone.
None of them managed to get top 8 of the last ESL Pro Series Germany (Monty finished at the 9th place, KnowMe 11th). None of them even got to top 16 in the current Germany Cup V. KauP lost to Hanfy and to an unknown protoss Levi. KnowMe got completely destroyed by Lambo and TLO and decided to forfeit his last match.

Never was a huge fan of Socke, but he is way better than these three combined.
Rooting for MaNa, Snute and Bunny. Europe holds!

Kaup is not bad at all I think, maybe he can go far with a professional team?
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

I think Knowme should be given an Incontrol-like position at Alternate. He is well spoken, has a good relationship with the community, can cast and I think he would be a good team manager, too.

Alternate Downsizing hard, with this step they basically accept going into meaninglessness.

Before this they only had 1 player in Socke. They traded 1 expensive player for 3 cheap ones.

This and their League team left the organization and joined Millenium so I guess that freed up some money too.

Anyways, happy to see Knowme under a team already. Apart from Heromarine, he is one of the few German players who stream regularly.

Hasu and Socke used to stream pretty often, sad that they don't anymore

Socke had the greatest music on stream, he definitely should stream again!

I remeber this too. But it was Cloud, not Socke who claimed alternate owed money.

quite a few negative comments here - I´d rather say it´s a good thing a number of German "B players" (no offense, there just aren´t too many A players to begin with !) found a team with a name to prove themselves and keep motivated.

I agree this is the way competitive SC2 could get a boost again. Teams have to grand opportunities to lesser known players.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Great pick-up there! It was know that Lambo was heading towards a German team, but we didn't know which one. Best of luck
