The first week of WCS Europe's Challenger League ended with four more players advancing their way into the Premier League.
While three of the matches ended in one-sided sweeps, Bly won a narrow 3-2 comeback victory against Daisy. Bly's victory continued a string of European successes against Korean players that started in the wild card qualifiers, where no Korean players were able to make it through.
WCS Europe Challenger League will continue on February 4th.
Players currently qualified for Premier (20/32) Protoss: MC, Genius, Stardust, NaNiwa, Grubby, BlinG, Lilbow, Welmu, ShoWTimE
Terran: MMA, Mvp, Happy
Zerg: VortiX, Nerchio, TargA, FireCake, Starbuck, Slivko, TLO, Bly

Only 5 Koreans in Premier right now. Interesting.
Still, that Terran line. Needs more heavy hitters.
|
Why is there a nearly two week gap until the next set of matches start?
|
TLO ! TLO ! TLO !

most the koreans are in America or Korea now lol
last season top 8 America was 7/8 korean
EU got much more country diversity, especially this year, should be less of a korean domination maybe

I'm definitely happy with premier right now. There are enough Koreans to keep it interesting, but not too many that they'll win everything ez. Hope they bring good games!

Well with YoDa not qualifying that would've been another Terran but I think there is just a historical slump in good Terran numbers right now. It seems a lot of the really good Terran's are spread out, and not a lot of new ones stepping up. While a lot of up and coming zerg/protoss players have been stepping up recently.
I already know the response, it's "because protoss OP" but really you look at the Terran player list, and it's super top heavy, while there are hardly any following them that have either stepped up and taken some top spots, or new player's that have risen through the ranks to claim a top spot. I think we will see a substantial increase in Terran numbers sooner rather than later.

Little statline I added together
Seeded players are 10-2 against qualified players, Lilbow and Bly are the only qualified players to win 34-9 in maps for the seeded players, 6 of the 9 mapwins by qualified players won by Lilbow and Bly, the rest was won by 3 Terrans in TvZ
Matchups: TvZ: 0-3 in series, 3-9 in maps (3 seeded players beat qualified players) TvP: 1-2 in series 3-6 in maps (all seeded players won their matchup) PvZ: 2-2 in series, 8-8 in maps (split 2-2 between seeded players and qualified players, qualified players won 3-2 each, seeded players won 3-0) The other 2 series were PvP.
Most played maps: 10 times: Heavy Rain 9 times: Yeonsu 8 times: Frost 7 times: Polar Night 6 times: Habitation Station ....... Twice: Daedalus Point Once: Alterzim Stronghold

Still, that Terran line. Needs more heavy hitters. More than MMA and MVP? And Happy, probably best EU Terran? Pretty big hitters man. There's a linguistic confusion here, I think. The word "more" could be used as an adverb modifying "heavy," or as an adjective modifying "hitters." In this case I think if it were modifying "heavy" KanoCoke would have said "heavier" rather than "more heavy," so I think "more" is modifying "hitters."
In other words, the fact that MMA, MVP, and Happy are indeed very heavy hitters is irrelevant. KanoCoke wishes the Terran heavy hitters to increase in quantity, not weight.
