I haven't heard much from him from a while back. I remember watching some TvP of his a long time ago which he won lol otherwise I don't know much about Sting. Regardless, best of luck to him!

This used to be on my twitch profile before the new layout made it really ugly.

Goodbye Sting. You really were #1 in my heart

Favorite Terran Player: Western Wolves Sting
Formerly NHSH, Sting first caught my eye during the TSL4 RO16. On his first game vs Darkforce, he successfully proxied a supply depot and barracks, bunker rushed DarkForcE in his own main base, and somehow managed to transition into a 3 base timing attack that murdered the zerg's army. I was laughing the entire time, at the audacity of this nameless, teamless Korean Terran, to actually pull something like that in a tournament. And yet, from there on, he continued to impress me, as he showed full competence in being able to play a best of series, crushing DarkForce and the IM favorite First.

As I was eagerly watching the semifinals, I realized that this was a terran who I could follow to the ends of the Earth. Versus Creator Prime and as a teamless player with little fame before this tournament, Sting showcased truely one of the greatest TvP series of all time. In a full best of 7, Sting played his heart out, showing us amazingly well thought out anti-Creator build orders, from hellion marine elevators, 3 command center builds, to marauder openings. Sting cleverly analyzed his Protoss opponent's PvT style, tendencies, observer movements, and responded with a mix of mind games, abusive openings, meticious mid game timings timings and unit movements/positioning.

Although he proceeded to lose the series 2-4 (the only player besides Life to force losses from Creator), Sting won my heart and loyalty that day.

A favored practice partner of many fan favorite players such as MMA, HerO, Taeja, Symbol, and even Creator; Sting is my favorite player to watch and learn from.

He has a complete terran arsenal, having the ability to pull anything out of the hat from all ins to standard to greed, and the several weird variations in between. Sting manages to execute all of these, with good Korean Terran mechanics, which you'll see most in TvZ, where he musters up impossible armies despite being at a disadvantage.

Unlike a lot of build order dependent players however, Sting sets himself apart from the coL.Hearts out there by making smart choices constantly throughout his games. Accurately predicting his opponents moves, planning 2 steps ahead, he is able to constantly be a thorn in his opponents side. Exploiting his opponents weaknesses, sidestepping their strengths instead of looking for holes in them, Sting is a player who is always thinking and adjusting accordingly. You will see him making many quirky decisions throughout a game that end up being brilliant.

Not only is Sting exceptionally talented at the game, he is a humble and generous person outside of it. In any of his interviews, you'll find that despite being soft spoken, he shows a lot of passion to do his very best for himself and his fans.

I'm proud to call Joo Hoon (주훈) WW.Sting my favorite player.

This crazy motherfucker put proxy raxes in darkforce's base in the TSL and actually managed to get away it I think that's the thing I'll remember sting for as well as taking out leenock in a BO9 at IPL fight club like a boss.

As many as is needed for Blizzard to finally step in and change the status quo.

I don't think it's a coincidence that it's mainly terrans retiring. I'd imagine many of them got tired of being forced to aggressively throw Tier 1 units at an opponent in an attempt to prevent them from getting Tier 3 deathballs because higher tier Terran units are mediocre-at-best.

I'm not calling Protoss or Zerg OP. I am confident Terran is capable of winning games. It's just that I as a viewer and a mid-level player love playing terran but hate the lack of playstyle choices, being forced to play bio or biomine. Look at almost every TvZ/TvP since HotS. Bio versus ling/bling/muta or Protoss deathball. TvP has (since Wings) been mandated around constant multi pronged runby and drop harassment done in order to contain the opponent and attempt to cripple or halt their production/tech. Meanwhile, Protoss have the option to drop too and considering the nature of Warp Gates) have superior base harassment capabilities to Terran or at least would have if it weren't for Stimivacs.

I wish Sting luck in future, whether he decides to play BW, LoL, Dota 2, Poker, WoT or enlist in the military.

There are only 146 progamers in Korea. For me it is not a lot. 80 players can be in GSL so only 66 players left, 29 korean players are in WCS AM and EU so in total we have only 37 players without any league.

And from those 37, we can probably assume that at least 20 won't be playing in any tournaments overseas. What do they do? The problem is, there's not much they can do.

I worry so much about those 37 that is why we need the 2nd league in Korea (OGN wake up, we need you).

5?

Am I missing something? There's like 4 listed on liquipedia retired in the last 2 months and Sting makes 5. There are more Protoss retiring than Terran, so what's your point?

Back in the dark days of Infestor Brood Lord dominance, this guy and Bogus had probably the scariest TvZ all-ins against Zerg that I had seen since the Slayers mass blue flame Hellion build, and maybe all the way since those obnoxious Makarax early game pushes that worked for about one open season. + Show Spoiler +
Although, in retrospect, those makarax builds really only functioned because everyone was kind of bad back then.

Considering that he meant that terrans with no results are retiring, Protoss retirements that you cite, like Duckdeok, probably were not due to a lack of results - Duckdeok, in particular, was winning a lot until the end. In fact, 2013 saw a large number of Protoss retiring, but the cited causes was mainly the transition to SC2/Kespa downscaling/military obligations.

At this point they could simply say a pro Terran has just retired without releasing the Terran's name, previous accomplishments, or the circumstances surrounding why he retired, and people on TL will still still find a way to blame balance.

Well, are you implying that 37 players are basically unemployed isn't a lot considering the size of the scene? And most of the players which retired in the past few months were "part of" these 37 players - which should not be surprising at all. Especially in Korea there's just nothing to gain if you're not able to play any tournaments. You can't do it as a pro and if you can't do it as a pro, you'll fall off.
In Europe/USA it seems like there are quite a lot of players which just play beside studying (or whatever), but in Korea... that's probably not possible.

That is sad. He is the only Terran not named MVP or Taeja that won a premier tournament in WoL post queen patch. People are just going to keep retiring though. Retirement announcements won't slow down until next season of WCS is starting.

People blaming over saturation are dumb. It isn't that at all. It's just a lack of opportunity/reason to play. If you don't already have a spot in WCS or you haven't previous made a bunch of money in SC2 the smart move is to retire. WCS has reduced opportunity for players a ridiculous amount. If 2013 WCS didn't exist or was like the 2012 WCS this wouldn't be happening. There would still be people retiring and teams disbanding but it wouldn't be this ridiculous.

gl Sting !

It is not about race here.

People will always make it about the race as long as it's Terran

Your comment is no different than someone complainting about balance, great example you set for others to follow.

As many as is needed for Blizzard to finally step in and change the status quo.
.

5?

Am I missing something? There's like 4 listed on liquipedia retired in the last 2 months and Sting makes 5. There are more Protoss retiring than Terran, so what's your point?

Considering that he meant that terrans with no results are retiring.

Does Sting not count then?

Of course he does throughout his career, but the page you listed has his last achievement 9 months ago. This is a long enough period of poor results to warrant inclusion. I think the point that people keep bringing up is that terrans that used to be good (got achievements) have fallen off and are now retiring.

More retires everyday... He looked so strong in IEM Singapore even though he didn't performed equally afterwards.

Sting is my 2nd favorite streamer of all time after SerapisPrime (T). I could watch that proxy depot rush thing he does TvZ all day.

Why are you saying that he has/had potential?

That's so sad. He was so young, and seemed to have such a bright future in SC2. I guess with how saturated the scene is with talented players, it was getting hard for him to continue. Best of luck in the future.
