Interesting mix, especially Bbyong taking one of the two Asian spots surprises me. Makes me want to look up what the line up of the Asian qualifiers was like.

I'm impressed how lesser known Korean players (Bbyong, herO, Dark, Sascri) all made it to the top4 of qualifiers while Maru, Soulkey and Dear failed to do it. Especially it's strange to see Soulkey losing both to Sascri and Jim with the 0-2 score.

Yeah, that's really cool for Coach Park! I wish he could bring EffOrt back to championship form in 2014.

CJ herO in Brazil! Thinking about going there...

Seems like it, looking at herO's path through this qualifier, he really did his work, taking out Dear, Maru. Quite impressive. Bbyong got a little lucky on the other hand, herO was the only high caliber player he had to take on.

just goes to show how absurdly competitive the Korean scene is.

So excited for jjakji to be there!
|
i'm happy for the amount of terrans going
|
If jjakji played in the European qualifier does that mean he's region switching for 2014?

I want a sample of whatever the heck coach Park is feeding the CJ guys. Nice lineup overall, surprisingly light on zerg though.

Hope to meet them there ^^

Yes major! I just hope he can perform offline too

hellokitty made it? did he just cheese his way through?

Liquipedia states that four players will be invited from WCS rankings so it's likely some of them just didn't care.

OMG SKT1 Soulkey going out against Jim and Sacsri 0-2, Parting 0-2 against ByuN, Classic 1-2 against Curious, soO 0-2 against Hurricane... FanTaSy and Rain already going out in RO32 of KR Qualifier...
Just Sacsri and Dark rocked... SKT1, you were supposed to WIN PROLEAGUE... CJ also nice tho, they can rock now

I would think so, he is currently living in the mYi house in switzerland. I mean, it would be somewhat silly if you can participate in another region's qualifier just because you happen to be there during the time of the qualifiers.

Bbyong also beat Dark who made it to the Loser's Finals after beating Maru, so that's not bad either. There were also the KR/TW qualifier that has to be included in his run.

Didn't he just win a big latin America lan for like 10k? Hopefully that'll be good for his confidence.

I am impressed by his 3-1 of Polt, too. I kinda wish HuK got over Polt personally though. He was a pretty close 2-3 loss to Polt IIRC.

There were much better players like Soulkey, Parting and even ByunPrime lost in KR qualifier while there are lesser skill players from other region gets through. This I think will contribute to a less exciting match over all --> less viewers perhaps. I think IEM shouldn't limited spot based on region but rather skill. I don't mind seeing 100% Koreans compete rather than a few top regional players
|

Pretty much. He played a lot of PvP's and in bo3 formats, it's really quite easy for a player like him to do well. Basically all his series went 2-1, and in PvP even the threat of cheese, and then going super greed is such an advantage its hard in bo3's for the true "best player" to come through. But eh, that's PvP for you right now. It kinda sucks too cuz there's so many other exciting players I'd rather watch (honestly he's one of the more boring players imo) then some terribly cheesy NA Protoss, but oh well.

There's still 4 more spots reserved for players finishing high in WCS 2013 rankings, which means basically 100% Korean for those spots. But if that's the case why were players like Maru, Dear, SoulKey forced to go through the qualifier when they are pretty much THE top ranked WCS players? Weird.
Although I get what you are saying, I think its nice to see NA, Europe, Korean players battling it out. The WCS season finals had similar restrictions and those tournaments were very high skill level, so that argument isn't valid IMO especially with there being Koreans in all regions, and most of them were knocked out in the qualifiers by the players who advanced.

I thought this was another retiring thread for a moment and got really sad about herO.
Would have made sense for the rest, though.

I never have any idea what to think about Bbyong but grats to CJ still going on strong

are there any vods for the qualifiers? I wanna see hero's games
|
Is the whole "Cheesy NA 'Toss" phrase a thing? I've imagined it as something like "patchzerg" was in late 2012, but rather than winning anything, they just knock out a few of your favorite players and disappear.

He looked monstrous. Whether or not he still will in PL and other offline tournaments is another matter, but he was no joke in these qualifiers.

Yeah and the best thing is that CJ line up just got ridiculous considering the actual form of their players. Not the biggest names but god in terms of skill displayed the last few weeks it's incredible.

Player of the hipsters SlayersDark played pretty well in these qualifiers. Worth noting that Soulkey went out 0-2 to both Sacsri and Jim and didn't win a single map in the qualifiers, so literally SKT Zerg.

it used to be enough. Now we'll see though. He'll probably do well enough that everyone sees that he's good but not so well that everyone thinks he's amazing. could be wrong though, guess it really depends on the full player list.

Well he has definitely the potential to win it, but that's far from actually winning it

Why there was no qualifier for local players as usual?

Never thought I'd see the day someone refers to Bbyong as being monstrous. He never looked terrible (well he did a couple of times), but he was never brilliant either.
Whatever powers Ensnare and Virus have seem to increase with each passing.

Did anyone see skyhigh vs bbyong or was it not casted?:c

surprised that polt isn't in the title - tl writers usually wet themselves over polt (:

hellokitty looked like he had an impressive qualifying run. wins over State, Huk and pucK. he must be feeling pretty good going into sao paulo.

Bbyong seems to be better than what tastosis make him out to be.
