Wasn't sure. I suspected they would for the more exotic stuff but didn't know if they'd stick to Japanese words for stuff that exists e.g. Barracks or Factory.

Nah, they're using the same English client as we are, so they had to get used to the English definitions and terms too. That's one of the biggest reasons why the Japanese haven't fully gotten into Starcraft in the first place, besides their focus on FPS and fighting games, and the expenses brought on by buying computers that have high enough specs to play newer games (they usually salvage old parts and make do with what they can get for cheap when it comes to PCs).

Wouldn't it be cool if Japan came out of nowhere and dominated the SC2 scene, resurrecting it?!

At least it's nice seeing some JP players.

Let's hope for Albion. I think he's Japan's representative at WCG this year, right?

That's right, he took out vaisravana in the finals.
The skill gap between the top Japanese isn't too wide though. I'd say breek has the best chance to cheese through a win, but I'm hoping for a strong performance from the whole team. Even if they get slaughtered, I want them to put in a good fight!

Japan's losing hard to Koreans in other forms of sports (popping, bboying, krump, MMA, etc.) so I'd like them to at least put up decent fights in others besides the ones that they're already doing great in (like fighting games, Judo, Kendo, Boxing and Karate). The thing with the Japanese for SCII though is that there's not too many of them playing the game. If they had a bigger concentrated community for it like the Swedes do, then they'd be getting much better, and would probably be a force in the scene too. Right now, they need quite a bit of improvement at their highest level (execution, mechanics and micro need quite a lot of work).

How I miss Koreans saying the unit names in English.

I wonder if Blizzard should have simply romanized the English names for the Korean version (in SC2 they do for some stuff like 바이킹 which is said the same as Viking in English basically) instead of translating it (some of the translated units names are completely different from the English version).

I managed to watch much of the WCG qualification. Even with my limited Japanese, practically the entire commentary ended up being in English due to the English unit names.

It's also very odd hearing a 5 minute fight at a 3rd base commentated in Japanese.

Hope it all goes well.

The original Starcraft did have a Japanese version, but it sold so poorly that Blizzard didn't bother translating Brood War. I don't think a Japanese SC2 would have helped their player numbers at all. For various reasons, the Japanese just aren't PC gamers.
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.
