MLG has announced their NA centric summer invitational tournament!
MLG has said Don't miss the MLG Summer Invite featuring the top North American StarCraft II players battling in a 16-player single elimination bracket for $1,500. Cast by Axeltoss and Axslav from MLG Studios in NYC, the MLG Summer Invite will feature player interviews, live fan voting via Twitter, and action-packed competition. Players include: Huk, InControl, Minigun, Sasquatch, State, Suppy, Vibe and more.
Broadcast Schedule:
July 20-21: Following Dreamhack (approx. 4pm-7pm ET) July 27-28: 7pm ET
EDIT: To clarify because some people seem confused. This is going to be casted from replays, it was played at MLG Anaheim. So it is not live. Also, if you want to watch, you should probably avoid first 2 pages of the thread, since the results of the finals were spoiled there. I would like to also appeal to anyone quoting the original spoil to edit their post and get the spoiler tags around, so we don't ruin the fun for people who will be watching this. Thanks!

You can't have it all, and eventually (hopefully) enough of these tournaments will help American players achieve a higher skill level.

Not really. Probably all of them are better than you are. NA isn't as good as korea, yes, but that doesn't mean all these players are bad.
anyway, invites only, really sucks... that's not how you do to improve the NA scene the best NA player in WCS qualifier was someone kinda unknown and in an academy team. Of course, no one would invite someone like that even though he's good enough

I agree, I dislike invite only tournys
I wasn't even invited, had to take someones spot who changed their mind on participating

Having them play against real talents would help their growth more than cultivating second tier level by playing together only. But it's good for the viewers to have something different.
If what major said is true he clearly was doing it because he's mad he didn't get invited. After all, there's no other reason to say it when you obviously know it's a spoiler. It seems his oddness has not gone away completely.

I don't really see how. Playing in tournament against the players they meet everyday in the ladder is now going to suddenly make a huge impact. At least it's gonna allow some american players to renew with the feelings of final stage of a relatively big tournament and maybe gain some confidence that there is room for them in the SC2 pro scene.

This is a common sentiment that is largely inaccurate. It wouldn't be faster for NA to develop as a scene if they exclusively play people who are significantly better than they are. This is why minor league teams aren't playing major league teams. It's why middle schoolers don't play varsity teams (ignoring the physical differences). It's why chess amateurs don't play grandmasters. Would they get better playing the best Koreans in the world? Absolutely. Would it be any faster than playing at a high level within their skill group? Maybe. Is it cost efficient to do so? No. There isn't enough money in the NA scene to support people losing 99% of the tournaments they enter

There is a reason why he wasn't in it. This was played at MLG Anaheim so the pool of players was limited to players who where. He has no reason to be man because he had no way of competing in it.

I don't think the problem is the competition, just look at WCS NA Challenger League qualifiers. The problem is that the entry barrier is so high that you need to commit pretty heavily to being a progamer if you want to stand a chance. And in order for someone to commit to being a progamer, someone must pay for their living expenses until they are good enough to support themselves off of winnings and sponsorships.
I doubt that a lot of Europeans, or Koreans for matter, will bother to watch this, simply because the level of play is too low compared to the almost endless amount of content that is produced all the time. But keep in mind that Europe has its own leagues like this. Not a lot of people is watching EPS but that is okay, as long as enough people watch it while the players slowly improve.
I don't know whether to be glad they finally got around to supporting some goddamned NA talent, or pissy that it took them 3 years to do so. I'm going with glad. Begrudgingly so, though.
And no Nony?!?! Holy fuck, you really didn't hold back with the EG and ROOT players. Surprised you didn't throw in Machine and Demuslim just to get the whole foreign squad of EG in there.
Just glad I avoided the spoilers. Can't really bitch about MLG reaming the NA scene then not tune in when they finally throw us a bone.

Terrans just happen to have never been good in the foreigner scene. Kind of weird that all the good players go to zerg and protoss.
maker major theognis Illusion Drunkenboi Demuslim(could argue about his eligibility being British, but I doubt anyone would complain if he were invited)
All could've been invited. But you have to remember that this tournament was played out at MLG Anaheim, meaning their invite options were already limited.

You can't... you're too good, that would 'kill the scene' and be soooo unfair to the 'American Pros'. Looking forward to see you kick ass in WCS AM though :-)

He could easily be mad they would do a NA-invite tourney with big advertisement when he wasn't involved. There's no other conceivable reason to knowingly spoil the results. Let's just say it doesn't boost major's reputation. It was a dick move.
I remember talking to the admin with the help of Puck to be put in this tournament. He snubbed me so hard it was extremely awkward. If anyone knows which admin I'm talking about (the one inviting players on Saturday), please let me know who he was (his name or nickname).
Edit: I'm not typing this because I'm outraged he didn't put me in the tournament. I think I'm better than incontrol and ostojiy but they have quite the reputation so I'm fine with being ditched. It's just the way he handled it he made me feel like I was the last player on earth he wanted in his tournament.
Month old replays? No thanks. I think replays should be no more than a week old as I don't really have a prob with replays for online tournaments, but these are too old.

This just seems bizarre. "Announcing" a tournament that has already been played? Not mentioning anywhere that they will be casting from replays? This holds about as much appeal for me as Go4SC2 cups. Maybe less; at least they are live.
please dont release this MLG, just run a live one.
anyone can set one up. just do it. No offence this was another "lets give something back to sc2 community so they dont think we forgot about them"(its okay if the quality is shit, they wont notice, hurry up its almost 5pm I gotta go home")

i declined my invite
Well that's disappointing. You're my favorite terran by just a little bit less now.
I like the general idea and the NA focus, and although I am not the biggest Terran fan I do miss me some Ts there... I can't believe they would only invite 2 when there surely must be more good and deserving ones.
Also the Desrow thing ;-<
//edit: wait waht- did I just read that? the games were already played at MLG and it's gonna be a cast from replays while quite some dudes are free to spoiler this whole thing? LOL

I have to laugh at the level of play being "really low", in comparison to what, Innovation? sure.
They will still put on great games, especially seeing as there are no "imba koreans" mixed in
Does anyone know if Kawaii will be switching between Z and T again, or just sticking with Z? I'd love to see him stay with the swarm, but I gotta admit he's fucking good at T.

agree. MajOr would wreck at this tournament but he wasn't at MLG Anaheim to play :/ Same with Scarlett
This is nice. Somehow I feel Jenna and TBs last Shoutcraft kind of lead to this happening. Maybe it would've happened anyway, but still. GJ MLG and Jenna/TB!

Lol he did this with SC2L too? Surprised TL wouldn't take action on his account. Pretty much removes any doubt from my mind that major is still an immature kid.

You interpret "its okay if the quality is shit, they wont notice, hurry up its almost 5pm I gotta go home" to be constructive criticism?
Wow this is too funny. "MLG Summer" played the same weekend as "MLG Spring". Results being spoiled, month old replays, AND a patch in between, nerfing hellbats and buffing banshees. Were they hoping that, because there are only 2 terrans, people wouldn't notice that the hellbats still deal sick damage vs light?
As someone said, casting replays from before a patch is really gonna be awkward.
Will probably not watch since we already know who wins it. I guess the idea is fine, and it's good for the NA players to get an own small tournament, but it really turned out bad.
I don't see what's so great about this tournament. It doesn't do anything to grow the NA scene because it has very half-assed production and all the players they invited are already on teams anyways. Also, anyone who follows the game knows who they are already.
NASL can hold an 8 man event and put it in MISSISSAUGA and draw 6,000 people.
its just a cryin' shame they can't put this in the Air Canada Centre in TORONTO, sell the place out and make some real money. A 32 player MLG live event could sell out Toronto's Air Canada Centre with ease and make piles of cash.
Its unfortunate that its not being held in a venue where MLG can make some money off of ticket sales.
It seems so anticlimatic that a tournament has been announced for a week from now that has already been finished. And now everyone just wants the results and doesn't even care to wait for the games. Regardless there are a few players I really hope did well and will wait for it to be presented.

We have Proleaguse Playoffs. I would be happy about every PM request, as it shows interest in the tournament.

No sir, TL community know that you interest in the tournament, but the tournament doesn't know that you are interest at it if you dont watch it (it doesnt matter if you know the score).

For future reference. Bisu is listed as a member of the calendar staff, though I don't think he can ban people. Still, it would be best to listen to him, since he is a well respected member of the community.
Regardless of the level of play, and we haven't even seen the games yet so it might actually be pretty entertaining at times, it's the thought that counts and this one certainly merits some praise.
Someday in the distant future I really hope this casting of age old replays will finally stop Edit: And so elegantly avoiding both lie and truth in one line by posting a "broadcast schedule".
