Really enjoyed that actually. Daisy wasn't being judgmental or laughing at how strange it must seem to see a training house, but just kinda went along with it.
Gratz Wolf and Khaldor too, this would be among the most watched things in the UK tonight. You guys did great.

Britain you mean, but yeah. Searching for a VPN out of the UK would also be an option.

Holy shit, I never realised.
Was it more or less than what you thought?
I'm on my phone, so I can't watch. That being said, the new studio can hold a lot of people, which was evident in the amazing turnout that they had during their first day of DotA2.

Way more, its like as big as dreamhack every day?? I thought the studio was pretty small and was designed for online viewing mainly.
The whole thing is just really really awesome. Channel 4 did a really good job here, made me pretty proud to be an esports viewer.
I haven't watched it yet. I will watch it tomorrow. It seems like typical old style thought process about esports from tv shows from the description atleast "South Korea's obsession with gaming and meets a professional 'e-sport' team who live and train together 24/7".

Just from that I want to say to them "You know nothing Jon Snow" except replace Jon Snow with 4oD.
The GOM event must have been an early HotS showmatch or something, there definitely were a ton of people there but looked like it was a big misrepresentation of a general day of matches. Good stuff none the less though, the presenter and Wolf/Khaldor looked like they had fun with it and she seemed to just go with and accept the StarTale training house for what it was, and looked impressed with the dedication.

What do you seriously expect mate. They've thrown a presenter in who doesn't play any video games at all and she's gone in to it with an open mind and tried to do her best while obviously making rookie mistakes as anyone would at their first time of doing something they have no interest or day to day involvement in.
No luck seeing the video in my region. Ahh well. At least this wasn't a piece on video-game addiction and/or a spot following a discussion on school shootings. Sounds like an earnest attempt to cover the eSports scene from an objective PoV, at least from the write-up.
This was awesome, really put across a positive/light hearted and interesting view of esports, I copied it to my facebook wall :D Proud moment for an esport fan for a change.

That was my personal view. It is about time to have something positive!
The UK as a nation is far far behind when it comes to eSports, you might get minor interest in a Fifa or a Call of Duty tournament but no one ever thinks of RTS games, and the Channel 4 segment was an honest and fair perspective on someone who hasn't got a clue about eSports.
Will it turn people's heads? No - However the part she visited the StarTale team house did stereotype SC2 players as nerds with no specific numbers involved when it came to prize pools to justify the amount of hours they played but it's about as honest and fair amount of coverage we'll ever get on eSports in this country until we catch up with the likes of Sweden etc.

Haha, just what I thought as well. TV production is so old fashioned here...
Oh I caught a little of this on TV last night, family members watching it. I figured at some point they'd do an SC2 thing but I didn't stick around to watch. Didn't realise she actually went to a teamhouse and spoke to people like Wolf and Khaldor. Maybe I'll watch it on 4oD.

Well said, its about time people started shunning the toxic and negative behaviour in this community, or we will -never- be accepted.

Agreed. To be fair, if you've never played videogames, just LOOK at Starcraft. A whole bunch of things are shooting, and a whole bunch of things are getting shot.
There have been some very negative shows about games in the past (mainly on ITV, if I remember rightly) but Channel 4 is known for making documentaries with some more unusual themes and perspectives and this segment fits quite well with that. I loved the look of real shock on her face when she first saw StarTale's house!
Excellent look in to South Korean TV as a whole. Makes me reaaaally want to move out there.. The Starcraft bit was definitely simplified for the masses but it was a great way to introduce people to it. Hunchback wasn't an excellent caster, although how wolf couldn't tell she said hatchback i have no idea.

Not really. We are not on South Korea, Japan, or Sweden's level but on a Worldwide basis I would say UK is not too out of it when it comes to online gaming and esports. Good examples of countries that could be considered far, far behind would be Nigeria, Mongolia, Colombia etc. Also RTS is not that popluar a genre Worldwide currently, not just in the UK.

It's Daisy Donovan she has been doing shows like this for a long time. I remember her doing one about metal concerts and she crowd surfed at a Spineshank gig haha.

Really? I've never heard of her. Still, it's not like all the news shows over here are like that, was my point.
Absolutely brilliant show/view on E-sport from a conventional journalist. Share it to people that has no clue about E-sport! Thanks OP for the awesome thread.

WHA!!? But ITV brought us the awesome show "Bad Influence".
Admittedly I used to watch that show even though I had no idea what it was about (I was only 6-8 at the time and wouldn't get my first games console for another 5 years). Still enjoyed watching it though, think it was on either just before or after Art Attack.
That was actually really funny and gives a good insight for laymen of what competitive gaming can be. Excellent ! And the part when the girl comes with Wolf and Khaldor to commentate was absolutely hilarious ^^
That was awesome, just watched it all. The guy is so funny, I'm so jealous over all that great food he's making while I'm eating garbage I should improve my eating style.

huh, I remember her doing a show called Daisy Does America awhile back. now that I think of it, it was pretty similar to this, her exploring something about america while making fun of it and her own ignorance. so this was Daisy Does Starcraft.
Thank god , A TV Piece on gaming that isn't super negative. I really enjoyed watching that, it makes eSports look really good as well as getting it a ton of exposure.
Yeah, anyone having that GSTL episode? Though that is kind of a strange GSTL episode with ST_Life vs ST_Bomber.. one time, the score is show, and the teams are called "GomTV Team" and "Startale" if I saw that correctly.

No specific number? They kept repeating "a price pool of 64 thousand pounds". I really liked that part because it showed how serious they were about it, she noted the concentration and dat schedule :D I think the stereotype of gamers being lazy and not serious was crushed there.

This tbh.
I mean its like anything, if you plonked anyone into a world they know nothing about, they will always struggle to seem knowledgeable about it to those who ARE in that world. What they will probably do, is their best to try and engage with the subject matter and bring in the many others who are watching and are NOT part of that world also.

I wouldn't mind more presenters on our telly like Daisy tbh. Most of them are bloody terrible. At least it would be a bit of a laugh if they lightened up a bit more.
Anyway - Does anyone have the VOD of the game/s casted? Does she cast all game? Would be funny to hear it all, bring on the Hunchback! :D

Crushed? Nah man, you aren't going to change people's opinions that easily and in many cases they just keep their preconceived notions. As for my own perception of the West more specifically, I'd say there are a lot of lazy gamers and they don't use their time wisely. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

She also says earlier that the English cast is for over 50 million people worldwide.
Yeah, that was the only part that really screamed out as a pretty large error. I assume they were told something like "There are 100 million people with an internet connection and we have the potential to reach them all" and something got lost in translation.

Again, I'm just assuming, but maybe that was a warm-up match for the live audience before they broadcast online. It was clearly the GSTL, but the players were all Startale? I find it hard to believe that GOM would let someone with absolutely no knowledge cast (even if it was all in good fun) and on the show it looks like she actually was involved and getting stuck in, when in actuality it was a warm up match no online view would ever see.
