Nice DeMuslim will be in action
Sad no Jaedong after his DH showing, but im guess people do need a rest from travelling.

Looks a nice tournament that

A few people like SeleCT i will be interested to see how they get on. YuGiOh could be a wild card for this, he looked very good in WCS Korea earlier

Oo Xenocider to make his MLG debut as EG player nice

That's totally fine. WCS EU was great and there were few top Korean's there too. Same with Dreamhack. It should be a good weekend.

Hell yeah InControl ftw!

Edit: This is an awesome throwback player pool. So many old favorites are coming, with a few new intriguing stories like now-EG Xenocider and big Kespa names like SoO, Stats, and Dear

No Kespa? A bit lacking there... ah well, MLG's always been great (except for Decorah times), so I'm sure it will be a great event again

Sigh...no Life...wtf. Now he gave up his asian indoor spot for nothing. Guess he chose DH over MLG. Underwhelming korean list. Will be the least interesting MLG in a long time due to the weakest player pool since koreans starting playing in them. Such a shame. MLG started high with Dallas this year and have been going downhill and backwards ever since.

Lol, I'm excited to see Xenocider in action, but other than that I'm sorta disinterested since this is like the weakest player pool since 2010.

So looking at this list it'll be the same as WCS America - who can stop HerO?

Old school, should be cool to see some of the foreigner favourites do well again.

Though I expect Polt will still win.

This is a super weak player field. I'll probably tune in to watch SeleCT (really happy to see him playing SC2 again) but past that...really not impressed by the players here.

Easy WCS points for foreigners i guess. Eventhough the player field is lacking strong koreans, i really like it - time for some up and comers to shine!

Demuslim gonna win this MLG, heard it here first.

The main reason why there's so many foreigners in this tournament is because MLG wants to run this as a more of a regional tournament. They saw how well TB's "all" American-Continental tournament went, and the viewership was rather high and averaged pretty high as well.

I wonder whose genius idea was to hold kespa qualifiers with only 3!!!! players qualifying when it's obvious these are the best players in the world. At least invite the 5-10 best ones like Flash Bogus Soulkey etc. and then hold a qualifier for the rest.

This is very underwhelming if it's final.

I'm excited anyways, if demuslim is in form then I think he has a good shot of winning it. He needs a big win.

People want Koreans but they dont want it to be a one sided stomp.

That's not really a balance you can have in an open tournament.

Yeah I know. There are still enough Koreans to make it legit tho and it increases the chances for fan favorites to go far so people will definitely tune in anyway.

This looks to be the weakest MLG since Dallas 2011. Pretty disappointing, especially considering how fun Anaheim was last year.

I see now why MLG originally only wanted to do one stream, aside from budget reasons. There's only going to be barely enough interesting games for one stream of content. I'll follow to see how select is doing, but besides that, this will be the first MLG I'm not excited to watch in a very long time.

The best players in the world are currently giving us top level games in the only conditions where it is possible to play at the absolute top level: GSL/OSL (WCS KR). So I dont mind the quality of the playerlist being a bit lower than we are used to. I watch these events for the entertainment and storylines etc and I even find these events without all the best players to be just as fun to watch if you give it a chance.

edit: a pitty Sjow isnt attending. Would have been interesting to see how he follows up his amazing DH run.

Well, it will probably be the first MLG in a long while I don't stay up most of the night watching. Bit of a shame, but perhaps the fact that they aren't doing the next WCS will get them going properly again for their own events.

I'm so pumped, a mostly foreigner competition, with an emphasis on NA players, but just enough Koreans to keep it interesting but not be one sided. This should be an NA Dreamhack-equivalent (lots of foreigners, lots of players from the local region, but still some Koreans) which we haven't yet had in HoTS, instead of a weekend GSL in the US with some foreigner sacrificial lambs thrown in that the last MLG was.

Looks a decent list to me, it's nice to have a lot of notable players in a big tournament. We all know that having the best players doesn't always mean the games are the most enjoyable (watch some gsl finals if you don't believe me)

It's got all the makings of some upsets, some WCS points to be won, and the stepping stone to the MLG after this which will be bigger and better. Don't hate guys, i'd much rather this than them doing another season of WCS America. Former IPL and NASL will do it better justice.

I'm looking forward to it.

Quick question, who are the casters going to be ??

I think it would have been a much better roster if they let more than just 3 Kespa players come. Checking the schedule for proleague no teams would be missing any players for their matches. Would have liked to see some more European players as well, they've proven they're capable of hanging with the koreans on LAN, of course a lot of them may be wiped out from DH anyways.

As far as I can tell this was Kespa's decision. MLG reserved 3 spots for them but it didn't mean that they couldn't have bought more spots if they wanted to

MLG is no longer paying for flights. Also notice the lack of Europeans from EU teams.

Its almost like its an local NA event where players from the region go to compete. And Polt. Polt is pretty good.

let's see how the North American Server GMs do!
Looks like a lot of fun.

Too bad the attendance at this event will be bad compared to previous Anaheim events.

I personally found the games boring even with NaNiwa and SeleCT playing. I replayed a few of those old games about 2 weeks ago to review how far we've come and oh my God a lot of those games are just unbearable to watch. I'll probably tune in for the semis and finals only unless the boys do another 100m sprint. I'm down for shooting shit, but everything else. Wunderbar. Go LivinPink!

A bit underwhelming, but then again DH Summer's list wasn't that great and the tournament turned out to be a success. Good for the local scene, a shame so few euro's are going tho :[

Some people on this forum are really kappa. What in the world do you guys want?
If kespa players come the next day the forum explodes:"waaaa waaaa another pale faced korean came to take foreigner money waaa waaaaa".If no kespa players are you guys are"why aren't there any kespa players?".
This MLG is one of the best organized MLG in recent times. Why is that.because it includes all of the top foreign/entertaining/competitive players battling for a prize. You have Noni,Huk,Violet,Demuslim,Theognis, thorzain, polt, dragon and countless others fighting in the same matches.
You have to be a real hater to not want to see violet vs demuslim or polt vs demuslim or incontrol vs grubby.Period.This will be one of the most fun tournaments in recent history and I will watch it simply for that.Imagine the drama, the fun the effects.
Moreover the supreme argument in favor of this type of tournament is something that all you kespa whiners do not know about since you do not follow real sports:COMPETITIVENESS.Nobody wants to see flash, innovation vs grubby, dragon or violet. Why?BECAUSE ITS NOT COMPETITIVE.Its bullying. It is like Mike tyson in his prime versus Hotbid. Its not entertaining. It is just a rolfstom. And the games that way turn out to be very lousy games cause the other guy does not stand any chance. At least this MLG we will see COMPETITIVE games.Look kespa players are 3 levels above anyone else. They are only entertaining against themselves. If you wanna see kespa watch the ogn.FLash and innovation played good matches today.Do you honestly believe that somebody like innovation would even give a chance to these players unless he was really tired or high.Come on guys give me a break.Enjoy MLG,support MLG.All people who like interesting starcraft should be watching.

Unusually few top koreans, but I guess that might be positive from an excitement perspective.

People have different opinions on TL forums, some want to see the highest level of play whenever possible (Kespa players) others want to root for the home team. So yes some people don't like Koreans come over and roflstomp foreigners but others don't mind.

Personally if I had my way I'd rather just see Kespa players playing in all tournaments since I don't really care about watching foreigners trip over themselves, foreigner vs foreigner is just not as impressive or exciting.

The highest level of play you talk about occurs only between top players themselves aka OGN style. There is no high level of play involved in an Innovation vs any foreigner simply because they are not on the same level.A rolfstomp isnt high level of play. Its just boring.Btw what was the last "high level of play match" you saw between a top kespa player and a foreigner.I can't seem to remember any.

I'd rather root for an underdog against someone who's actually high skilled than an underdog against another underdog. I mean, even though Koreans won virtually all the MLGs, it was still exciting to see players like Huk, Demuslim, Naniwa etc. make deep runs and occasionally place very highly. It also made the viewer realize that foreign Sc2 wasn't completely irrelevant.

Violet is the most entertaining korean in sc2 history.hero is a legend in the foreign scene and represents TL and has a good fanbase. They are korean, entertaining as hell and have a good relationship with the foreign scene.and also they sometimes lose against talented foreigners so we might see some upsets .

After about the 4-7th time that it was all Korean rounds of 8 or higher, I got a little tired of it. With the top heavy prize pool, it got to the point where the only thing that mattered was which Koreans MLG flew over to play. If EU can be fun to watch, so can NA.

I hope the people saying "this isn't a good lineup" aren't the same people who say "top 8 korean? I'm done watching"

This looks like a good chance for some lesser names to make something happen.

But according to this list

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2013_MLG_Spring_Championship

Huk demuslim and naniwa are still coming. So you will be able to see them against. So whats your point then?Btw when was the last time Huk,Naniwa scored a major upset. At least this time they have a COMPETITIVE chance.

Well, I'd obviously love to see Flash, Innovation, Soulkey, sOs, Life etc etc etc. But actually the player pool looks good :D

Polt, Dragon, Catz, Demuslim etc will be fun :D (in my own opinion, of course)

And It'll be nice to see how these Kespa guys (who aren't flash or Innovation) fare :D

Probably dominate, but upsets are part of the fun!

MLG ID's are permanent though. It's not like someone could steal Tyler's ID because he's had it since 2010.

Where is my MC,MVP,MKP,Life,Flash,Innovation Sucks that all the upper tier Koreans won't be taking place. This will make for a boring tourney.

My fault then, never seem something about MLG ID's and assumed its just the standard username.

Fake YellOw anyone? Yeah and it's frigging annoying. I saw a guy post here under WhiteIdrA and I think he casts as well? I don't know guys. I think you can add a little slice of creativity to those nicknames because some are just meh and then I look at my i.d. and I just go ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I must have been listening to AC/DC at the time or something when I made this one.

Grubby, Demuslim and Thorzain to cheer for, but none of my favourite zergs. Well Violet, Suppy and Moonglade will have my support . The lineup is not the greatest but it might make for some interesting stories like Grubby going really far or something.

Edit: Actually Hyunbeatable is there, awesome! YugiOh winning it would be great too. So I guess I have enough zergs to cheer for.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Realistically speaking when was the last time these foreigners pulled an upset against any top korean?Naniwas gsl semifinals last year might be the last time.

Naniwa vs. Jaedong at Dreamhack?

or maybe Sjow vs. Life ??

Edit: If you're just talking about those players then Nani, Grubby and Moonglade can all cause upsets.

Naniwa vs Jaedong wasnt that much of an upset.Jaedong was at the begining of his sc2 career and even Naniwa admitted afterwards he only won cause he knew jaedongs ultralisk strat since they practiced together.I dunno. The dong seems to be haunted by bad luck at the foreign tournaments.

sjow vs life-you might have a point here.

Sjow vs Life was amazing but Naniwa beating JD isn't really an upset. JD isn't a top tier player in SC2 and we all know his ZvP is not very good.

Before DH Jaedong did arguably have a weak ZvP. The underdog still won though.

Nani wasn't expected to do well in that tournament, whilst he wasn't a total underdog, him doing that well is the sort of Underdog rising up story that he was getting at.

If you say things like that, then perhaps you should also say, that Naniwa also admitted, that he lost like 2-20 against this strat of Jaedong when playing with him... And that he trained against some strong Z just before the tournament (I don't remember which one)... So actually he practiced against it in order to get better

Also, Jaedong at the beginning of his sc2 career? Srsly? At that time it was almost 1 year since Jaedong played sc2 and Kespa players were already reaching GSL finals (now they dominate top4)...

Depending on how it plays out in terms of brackets and what not, have to give the Kespa guys a decent lead here, no? And Hero, of course.

Well you are confirming my point. He practiced against it since he knew it was coming.
And Jaedong is at the beggining of his sc2 career.Just as flash is since neither of them are at their peaks yet.Flash has the advantage of the kt rolster teamhouse to practice which is probably one of the best sc2 training environments in the world.Jaedong is still good but the eg lair aint exactly the training environment to win the osl which makes his results that more impressive. How many people do you know that have beaten the eg curse?None.Jaedong is still legend

Who wouldn't want to watch them stomp everybody? Its enjoyable to at least me to watch foreigners in the endless struggle to stand side by side with Koreans. Other than that the rest of the competition is sub-par when compared to WCS/GSL because the Koreans are the ones who are ontop of their game.

Its like attending a soccer game with all the 2nd/3rd string bench warmers playing and not the star players.

When protoss wins? Duh. Its amazing decision making when Terran does it though. Zerg is unknown because they are freaking weird and just build more bases.

I dont mind the MLG's not being filled to the brim with koreans. Its nice to see foreigners compete and actually win money. If you want to see the best of the best than watch code s or osl

FXO must be doing pretty well if they can send 2 Korean players to DH and then 2 Korean players to MLG two weeks later.

Go sC!

It's actually pretty good - the talent pool of Koreans is decent, but not so much that it crushes the hopes of any foreigner from making it past the Ro16.

Nice of SKT T1 to send a representative.

Is the answer soO since the KT player isn't Flash?

soo probably #1 in my personal power rank since he's in starleague but I think the 3 kespa players will probably be top 5

Dear soO and Stats got out of a qualifier with all KeSPA players, they definitely deserve to be there.

Omg people... I am so mad, holy shit.

People will complain and complain about WCS NA being all Koreans blah blah blah, this and that. And you have have a solid solid NA lineup and you're complaining? Seriously?...

I for one am very excited, I'd rather they don't have any Koreans though, or like 3 max. I really dislike no name Koreans getting far in foreigner tournaments like in dream hack.

Either way, super stoked for this. Drewbie and Select gogo 1a2a3a4a5a6a and crush face.

Expecting HerO to probably take it, but there's a lot of possibility for someone who is yet to win a major tournament there.

I actually think soo is the worse among the 3. His being in WCS is deceiving because he qualified at the end of WoL where when you are atleast a decent zerg you qualified and it being really hard to drop down to Code B once you were once Code S.

Stats is probably the favorite

no idea why Life isn't there considering he supposedly gave up his Asian martial arts tourney spot for this and he could certainly use the WCS points.

So dumb that only three kespa players are allowed to go. a year after MLG made a big deal about the kespa agreement and we've got Stats, Dear and Soo in an MLG and that's it. yippee fucking doo. hopefully kespa will send players to other tournaments some day. but with most of them scaling back as a result of WCS that is looking less and less likely.

Cool to see incontrol as a player again. Would be hilarious, if he were to face Nathanias. Battle of the casters, make it happen!

Also this got to be Demuslim´s breakout tournament, even if afterwards people will say it was an "easy" bracket.

I`d say the tournament is fairly open. Looking at Proleague, Stats would look like the favorite, but on the other side, he failed to qualify for WCS/GSL yet, indicating, that an environment, where he can´t prepare specifically for his opponents, makes him vulnerable (Same goes for Dear).

I think anyone out of Stats, soO, Dear, viOLet, Hyun, YugiOh, HerO, Polt, Naniwa, Heart, Sage, sC and STC could potentially win it, depending on how the bracket works out.

Personally I´m rooting for Grubby, Naniwa, ThorZaIN, Sase, Polt, iNcontroL and mOOnGLaDe to make it as far as possible.

I'm a little disappointed at the lack of some big EU names. Although I appreciate we were never going to get many KR players, I'd hoped for a few more. Although maybe that's just MLG's standards coming back to bite them.

Should be good though, Dear is an absolute monster and soO and Stats are good too. There are also a lot of dangerous players would could easily just drop out in round 1 or could win the entire thing (*sC, Naniwa, etc.) and there are a lot of very solid players (Sase, Sound, Moonglade, Gruby, etc.)

If a foreigner is going to win a big non-WCS tournament this year, this is probably the prime time to do it. There are a lot of big names missing and a lot of previous champions who aren't going and that leaves the field quite open.

MLG put out a call to community casters for the open bracket and replays will likely come when they always do, after the event.

They did nothing of the sort in the last two open bracket events of 2012.

Entire open brackets were lost and we haven't gotten replays after an event since Columbus 2012.

Hopefully it's true and community casters get their hands on replays at least

Did they every release replays from the open bracket? That is a crap ton of work to collect all those files unless the players label them after each game. Even then, that is a lot of work that doesn't do much for the production.

I believe MLG Adam requested on twitter that community casters contact him about the upcoming MLG. It was a while ago and searching twitter is a pain on my phone.

Will be interesting to see what the few KesPa players attending will do with this lineup- . i might watch , if for nothing else, then the nostalgia in a tournament but packed with koreans

Since the entire tournament is open bracket (no pool play or anything like it afaik) I would assume we would get to see some open bracket games

I think anyone out of Stats, soO, Dear, viOLet, Hyun, YugiOh, HerO, Polt, Naniwa, Heart, Sage, sC and STC could potentially win it, depending on how the bracket works out.

I think HerO or sC will win. HerO is more reasonable, sC is my longshot/heart pick :p.

Also hoping for Yugioh but doubt it.

Yes, all replays were released for every event through early 2012.

They used to have it automated where they got uploaded directly into the bracket minutes after every game. It was probably the most entertaining aspect of following the open bracket from home. Then they stopped this and started releasing the full packs 2 weeks after the events. Then they stopped with that altogether.

well he DID make it through http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2013_MLG_Spring_Championship/KeSPA_Qualifiers

and he DID take out Rain Baby and Trap. But I'd agree with you, I'd expect more out of Soo and Dear over Stats.

Sure, why not? If Heart gets an easy bracket, he can make it far and he can beat pretty much everyone attending in a bo3. I think, there is a possibility, that Heart could pull a Sting here. Not a high possibility, but a possibility.

I'm always confused by the Koreans that do turn up at international events, seems like teams don't consistently send their best star player.

Maybe not a cinderella run, but there's definitely room for foreigner over korean upsets, which is always fun :D

I wouldn't even really call it an upset... Every one of these Koreans (KeSPA players aside because they haven't competed) have dropped games to top foreigners. If someone like NaNi defeated someone like HerO in the early stages of the tournament, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

I'd be pretty surprised if it was a KeSPA player considering they held qualifiers for their players to go but I guess it wouldn't be the strangest thing to happen.

Good line up. Surprised by the amount of hate it's getting. From watching Sjow and Stardust this weekend (and TLO ^^), I think it's quite obvious that we need to give other players than Flash and Innovation some applause. Geeze, you would think the game was played by only two people by reading these forums. And they do lose games ^^ tt.

Unlike many I actually think its a decent line-up.

- The tournament was announced with short notice (at least all the details)
- Its in the middle of the summer. The date couldnt have been much worse tbh.
- There are so many tournaments going on atm that many players who want to prepare properly have to pick and choose what tournaments to play.

My favorites to win the tournament are HyuN and Polt, but slightly leaning towards HyuN because of how well he performed in DreamHack.

The three KeSPA players are the ones that won each of their groups and either beat everyone else or beat someone who did, etc. They either beat players like Flash, Soulkey, INnoVation or beat someone who did, etc.

That has very little ground and we already know how flawed that logic is.

What little ground does it have? They were beaten in SC2. What's flawed about my logic? Maybe the fact that you're a troll and I shouldn't attempt to reason with you in the first place?

I feel like its either Life or another KesPA player.

I'd be pretty surprised if it was a KeSPA player considering they held qualifiers for their players to go but I guess it wouldn't be the strangest thing to happen.

Yeah I guess you're right. I guess I might have higher expectations for "Huge sc2 player" than MLG does

That said, I think Life is a definite possibility, we know that he has had success there before.

Maybe THE DONG?

Maybe Jaedong is like... I was so fucking close to win dreamhack... fuck it I'm going to MLG and winning this.

I'm still waiting for the confirmation of Stephano

I'd hardly consider Stephano a HUGE name anymore. Definitely not one that someone from MLG should be super hype about.

Crush group stage
Say he's playing like shit
Lose a ZvZ
Disappear into a bar somewhere

Seems like a very weak list by MLG standards, but still..Lineups like this I find interesting in their own way.

kinda weak. at least we get to see new faces, but thats at the cost of top-level game-play...
guess ill just hope for stats/hero vs soO/violet so that at least the final is respectable.

Good line up. Surprised by the amount of hate it's getting. From watching Sjow and Stardust this weekend (and TLO ^^), I think it's quite obvious that we need to give other players than Flash and Innovation some applause. Geeze, you would think the game was played by only two people by reading these forums. And they do lose games ^^ tt.

what sjow and stardust did was awesome because it was a strong field AND they were darkhorses.
a bunch of darkhorses in a weak field is much less exciting.

We apologize for the confusion, but neither JKS or sC will be attending MLG next week. While we originally reserved passes for them to compete, we ultimately decided against it due to late notice and increased cost. We're very excited to get them to an international event, so expect to see them soon.

Then who will replace them?? Life would be amazing. Also sad that there is only 3 KeSPA players No Flash, INoVation, Soulkey, or PartinG

Damn was hoping for life when adam tweeted about a huge player coming. I like jaedong too, but I actually already thought he was already attending since he was on EG.

PSA: Yesterday was the last day of spring. The spring championship is supposed to be at the end of spring. So it was either this weekend or next. Conflict with homestory cup or no? Obvious answer. Not sure why people are talking about that.

This is why just an open bracket isn't as good. Need a stage with some invites too imo.

Does MLG not have something where the top x players from the previous MLG are automatically invited?
