i had a good laugh and it made me happy to see all the community figures applaude to this 15 year old game, but then i wondered which game are they actually referring to? The 15 years old game is obviously Starcraft 1, released in 1998. But on the other hand, people beeing shown congratulating are none beeing currently active in the Starcraft 1 scene. I didnt see Casters like Elegant or Sayle congratulate, not players like Sziky and Micheal, not Community workers like 2Pacalypse, Sethgecko or Yoda. I saw this anniversary represented in a sc2 context by sc2 people. Many of those have played sc1 in the past, or contributed to it, but as far as i know, they dont do today.
Now, as i noticed this, i realized this isnt the first time the two titles are beeing mixed together. Oftentimes in sc2 casts, Casters generally refer to "Starcraft". Like in " this is Starcraft at it's finest, ladies and gentleman [...]" In this video, White-Ra says "happy birthday Starcraft, best game ever, still play [...]". I Wonder, which game does he actually mean? Isnt he aware those are two different games he is talking about?
As of now, im just curious, why do you think are those two titles mixed up more often than not? Don't people think, those games are wildly different, don't they care a lot about such details when referring to "their" game, or is it something else?
DreamHack guys were the best, hands-down. Bravo. Those who did genuine birthdays were great, some of them felt a bit awkward or over-rehearsed/wanting to make an impression.
But the DreamHack birthday setup made me smile hard!
i'm fine with starcraft being used loosely as either the original sc, or any of sc/sc2, depending on context white-ra here, for example, clearly means the original game saying it's still the best

WHERE'S TASTELESS!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Also, ironically, I played Diablo all day on StarCraft's birthday, lol. Still, StarCraft - best game ever. Nice vid.
But yeah they refer to the franchise as a whole, like how there was the Legend of Zelda 25th anniversary, they meant the whole franchise, not a single installment.
I thought the video was so awesome! All the players/commentators/etc. were all saying Happy Birthday to Starcraft meaning the original :D After all it was 15 years ago that the first one came out!
Happy Birthday Starcraf! it's been fun playing the game! Best game ever! Onee of the longest on going games until now and it's still the one of the best!
Yeah we see it in PL all the time and it's very frigging annoying. I wish they would stop the overlap and it is sad that the guys who still do it today didn't make the cut in it. It would be far more relevant but it's Blizzard and they don't know any better.

Your stats in one game doesn't necessarily translate to the other. The BW stats should stand on their own just like the SC2 stats.

I refer to StarCraft I and StarCraft II collectively as "StarCraft". If further distinction is needed, I will distinguish. Usually though, I will just say, "I was playing StarCraft the other day and this game was awesome!" or something like that.
Maybe you weren't looking in the right places. I saw many brood war members you mentioned say their happy birthdays. Anyway you are quite late on this. I hope you can be more curt on the 20th anniversary.

Yes, but to be fair the link he used was technically just posted. He just caught wind of it and as for these Brood War guys. Who on the list is actually active doing stuff? Not the Devs, certainly not Leg, White-Ra, IdrA, Day[9] and the list goes on. If I were editing the video I would showcase past and present stars to let people know SC:BW & SC2 continue to go on.

well, if it means a lot to you: StarCraft

exactly that

yeah, i saw some and that was nice But i meant at that very video. Which got more exposure than the guys from BW that did.
the reason you didn't see any of the people you mentioned is because they're irrelevant
and i'm not trying to be mean
but when was the last time any of them were on stage at a live event? when was the last time they were even within a mile of a blizzard employee? How many of them have even talked to a blizzard employee or been near a camera not plugged into their own computer?
Don't get me wrong, I love based sayle especially, but if you think about why they weren't in the video the answer is pretty obvious..

well, they are more relevant for the mentioned game who had 15th anniversary. I dont want to be rude either, but some random BW mod does more for that game, of which 15th was celebrated than all that other guys together. Its a matter of focus: StarCraft 1 got 15, StarCraft 2 people get dsiplayed. They dont do anything for that game today anymore.
So i dont see why they should be on the front line ?
Everybody playing, watching, and being a fan of either SC:BW and SC2 are all part of the collective "StarCraft" entity. I personally loved the TeSL guys the best!
