DreamHack Open 2013 revealed

EIZO, Logitech G-Series and Kingston HyperX present DreamHack Open 2013 with five StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm tournaments across Europe. The world's best StarCraft II gamers will have the chance to fight over the 1 200 000 SEK prize pool (equals $190,000) and to become the next DreamHack Champion.

DreamHack Open was launched last year and now returns to bring you some of the best tournaments and eSports shows in the world. DreamHack Open 2013 keeps the core from last year including the appreciated tournament format and the praised Playoff-Show with the final eight players battling it out in front of an on-site live audience and DreamHack’s unique live stream experience. Also, all matches will be live streamed in Free HD (720p) just like all DreamHack events in the past.

In addition to this, DreamHack will present many improvements for 2013. For example, all top 8 competitors will get prize money in all tournaments. Our main focus will be to create an even better experience for competitors and fans at each competition, including new Player Booths, a revamped Stage set-up and new broadcast/interview areas that will give the viewers at home a new broadcast experience with fewer breaks between matches.

They have all proven their passion for eSports and gaming but having them as sponsors of DreamHack Open 2013 are very thrilling for us."

Commercials aren't allowed on national TV in Sweden since we are socialists, and what some Americans has suspected along time ago, almost dangerous close to communism, like we are plotting to make it more acceptable and retake USA O_o..

On a more serious note they will probably show the trailer as a teaser before the tournament begins and between games if there is some dead time to fill. They usually plan for some dead time to show off strange but hip music videos and other strange video snippets.

Just divide by 6. Also there is the total amount in USD, it shouldn't be that hard to get a good idea of the amounts. It makes sense to state the currency that's actually being payed out, otherwise the amount might not be the same when the tournament plays as they are announced as, which would be a bit strange.

looks freaking sick!!
My only complaint about last year was that there wasn't enough top end players participating...so sometimes it felt like another IEM Singapore. Other than that, fantastic tournament all round. Production so world class.

Really nice video, I like the sound design alot. You made one BIG mistake tho, you used the word "epic"... The most overused word in blizzard contexts. But enough about the trailer.

It seems to me Dreamhack is doing things the right way. They grow at a steady pace and is always looking forward. This year I really am looking forward to the open event! The format looks solid as well. Well done getting me hyped, keep it coming!

I think epic is fine to use if you don't use it with too much seriousness. The whole trailer was "over the top" so it kind of fits.

I really hope Lucifron and Morrow wins one of these, if nothing else than for the amazing play they would show along the way. Would be nice to have Naniwa win one too. I think it would mean a lot to him to win a big tournament in front of all the Swedish fans.

Either way, I'll be sure to bring my gf along to Dreamhack Stockholm. She's been hooked ever since going to that event last year.

I went to DH Stockholm alone last year and let me tell you that when the games start - the awesome production and all-around excitement makes you feel one with the cheering nerd crowd. Time just flies by.
And that's just the second day, the playoff day in the Arena; during the first day you can stand just a meter behind a player while he plays his group matches, I spent most of the day watching Ret and Hyun like that.

Pity that banshees don't operate in space though (as there is no air there for the helicopter propulsion to function). :D
Comparing BW with SCII is like comparing a beautiful three-master sailing ship with a modern battlecruiser. Both are beautiful in their own way, both perform the same task, but they are worlds apart in how they are built and how they are steered.

If only their competition level matched their production values, then DH would be a lot more interesting to watch. As it stands now, with IPL gone, MLG is the only foreign tournament left that's interesting to watch for me.

As Dreamhack is transmited by SVT, do they show these trailers during commercials? Or how do even those broadcast look like ?

Commercials aren't allowed on national TV in Sweden since we are socialists, and what some Americans has suspected along time ago, almost dangerous close to communism, like we are plotting to make it more acceptable and retake USA O_o..

On a more serious note they will probably show the trailer as a teaser before the tournament begins and between games if there is some dead time to fill. They usually plan for some dead time to show off strange but hip music videos and other strange video snippets.

so on the main channels no commercials or everywhere ?
germany the "public" channels (old man stuff) has no commercial from 20cet afterwards so i know it a bit but no commercial ... sounds epic ^^ (well perhaps then i would go back watch some tv and not only on the internet ^^)

btw to the topic: EPIC trailer, such trailers owns asses !

On the state-funded television channels SVT1 and SVT2 (and other minor iterations run by SVT) no commercials are allowed apart from their own about programming (i.e. no 'buy this new kind of soap' commercials, only 'this saturday this show will air' stuff). Commercial channels (like TV4) have commercials.

Cool, these might get very interesting to me again now that we're in somewhat of a flux period with HotS in which foreigners are probably going to become a bit more relevant.

It was always such a tragedy that they have great casters, an electrifying crowd, fantastic production, but fall short in the most important category the lineup. Outside of staples in HerO and Taeja they just can't seem to consistently get the top-tier Koreans like MLG for whatever reason. For now at least, this shouldn't matter quite as much as it did in 2012 and it should be a great event.

It is likely due to travel costs. MLG has a lot of qualifiers which the players can get travel and board covered. I don't think DH has that so it is very expense for Korean teams to send players. So you usually get the Koreans from foreign teams who get more from the exposure.

Dreamhack is going to raise the bar again. Cant wait
The chair slowly turns around. You see his face, but it can't be. He's not supposed to be here. Not him. Not a Protoss. Not THAT Protoss. MC says, "Hi Greg, long time no see." You back slowly out of the booth. But you can't. It's already forcefielded.

ya, Korean pro-teams are (still) having trouble finding sponsors so I can imagine the expenses of flight travel is something they just can't afford.

I love DreamHack events, and this one appears just as excellent, if not better. Maybe DH can attract the higher A-list Koreans now with the bigger prize pools, because they seem to be struggling in bringing in Koreans beyond a few repeats.

I think DH did a great job with balancing foreigners and koreans so far. Unlike MLG and IPL, there is almost always a few foreigners making deep runs.

Will be participating in both summer and winter of Dreamhack in Sweden.
I also hope I can go to the other events such as the one in Romania and Spain, but we'll see!

It's a great tournament, and I can advise anyone that wants to show himself to the world to get the best results in these open tournaments to get your name going.
Good luck to all the players participating, and much fun to the visitors and viewers.

Winners: It is difficult, but it's possible.
