We, LG-IM, are proud to announce that we have recruited Squirtle, Park Hyun Woo, to our team roster for the Starcraft 2 Team. Squirtle is a GSL Code S Runner up in the 2012 season.
On the 25th, LG-IM through a press release has stated, "We have recruited Squirtle who has been undergoing activities independently." Recently, Squirtle has left StarTale and has been active on his own as he is pushing the limits of the Protoss Power in preparation for the launch of Heart of the Swarm.
Park Hyun Woo, advanced Protoss player, has been consistently participating in the GSL Code S since he became the runner up for the GSL Season 2. His results have been very good in the individual leagues as well as team leagues. He is also the first to do an all-kill in the GSTL leagues.
As he joined LG-IM, Squirtle has stated, "As I have been in search for a new team, I have realized the importance and preciousness of practicing, thus I want to regain my lost abilities and put it to focus."
He has expressed his feelings that with Choi Yong Hwa, Kang Hyun Woo, Jang Min Chul, and Ahn Sang Won by his side, they will become good practice partners and comrades as the launch of Heart of the Swarm becomes one step closer.
On another note, he expressed his gratitude towards Coach Kang Dong Hoon who took him in. He wishes to repay them by practicing harder than ever before and bringing in good results.
Coach Kang Dong Hoon states, "We are very glad to have recruited Park Hyun Woo. Due to this, LG-IM will now have an even more stronger and powerful Protoss line up. Park Hyun Woo has similar powerful synergy's with the current Protoss players. So I am positive, he will bring forth a new aura. Please give him your support."
Park Hyun Woo, Squirtle, will be officially playing for LG-IM starting the 27th in the Hot 6ix GSL Season 1 Code A Round 3. Stay IMed for news!
IM has the most insane protoss lineup we've ever seen, which is funny as historically they had a weak protoss lineup until they all suddenly decided to kick ass together. I guess IM is as close as he could get to a Kespa team's bank and I'm really surprised IM got him. This is definitely their biggest acquisition ever, they almost always only pick up the small fries and raise them, never guys who were almost gsl champions.
If IM doesn't win GSTL this time, they should just give up

best ever news of a player joining other team I am getting Nerd chills all over my body .... ok this is too much, But I will remember that final b/w Squirtle and IMMvp GL squirtle I am a big fan

Why would you say that? IM players go to plenty of foreign events. Seed and Mvp are going to the upcoming MLG and Yoda, Mvp Yonghwa and First are going to the IEM world finals in a week. It's not like Squirtle went to a lot of foreign events on Startale. Just IPL4 and some Red Bull stuff I thought?
On February 25 2013 15:41 Maxilicious wrote: A million dollar question: Is Squirtle playing today in GSTL?
Chances close to 0. In order to play in the match he would have had to already be on their roster at the start of the preason if Gom follows the same policy as they do with a normal GSTL. We would have known for a few weeks that Squirtle was on IM. He should be on the roster in time for the regular season, though. I'm sure you can probably add players up to the start of the season.
Holy shit!!! I thought Squirtle would retire or join a foreign team judging by his leaving StarTale all of a sudden. This is better than i hoped! LG_IM Squirtle has nice ring to it

Leaks killing eSports again. Hey.... wouldn't it be cool if Korean teams had announcement videos like EG, or at least nice long info-filled posts somewhere like TL and other foreign teams? It seems like most Korean signings just sort of... happen, and then there's an interview somewhere.

That was the case in 2011, but in 2012 other IM players got lots of opportunities to attend foreign events. First won an IEM just only a month ago IEM Season VII - Katowice
Yoda has been to IEM's and IPL5, Yonghwa has been to Homestory Cup and some others, Losira and First went to multiple MLG's in 2012 too. He will still get a chance to travel internationally.

Actually, they are more Barcalona since most of their players are home grown(at least in terms of sc2, almost all their players were Kespa pros before). They have only recently been picking up players from other eSF/foreign teams (Ragnarok, ByuL and now Squirtle).

Absolutely awesome news, I'm sure Squirtle can only get better and better on such a stacked team. And hopefully his sick game knowledge benefits LG-IM just as much.

The LG-IM Protosses hopefully should become amazing with Squirtle on the team designing builds, and the other players should benefit from the in-house practice as well. Best of luck to both parties.

Squirtle will do great things at LG-IM, but it makes me question why he moved on in the first place.
Did he chase a big Kespa paycheck and it just didn't come? Startale is probably the 2nd biggest ESF team right now, I find it hard to believe the difference in salaries between LG-IM and Startale is that vast to warrant switching. Was there an irreparable situation at the Startale house that forced him out?
I'm speechless. This is completely ridiculous it's not even fair..... If Mvp and Nestea ever regain the form from their primes... On the one hand I really hope Mvp gets his surgery done so he can dominate even more, but then we can just give IM the gstl/gsl trophies from now on because who else will win it? (Granted, Life had a good shot, but then he was put against Z - He must be soooo irritated with Curious for putting him in that all z group back in GSL season 5 lol)

Sometimes, Koreans move teams just for a change.
I've heard plenty of Korean players leave their teams and seek foreign ones, saying that they want to experience new things.

Maybe Squirtle can win a GSL now :D IM players keep winning and Squirtle and Losira are two players who I hope will bring championships to IM! Both of them only lost because they faced IM in the finals! Now they're teammates.
Which IM player will win most championships in HOTS? ^_^

LG-IM has so many good players on the team that it almost doesn't seem worth it for them anymore >_> Seriously, at most you can put out 5 players in the regular GSTL format. What the hell are the other 8 good players going to be doing while the first 5 are playing? ;p

They should split the team in two and enter GSTL as two different teams.
Squad 1: Mvp First Byul Ruin Squirtle NesTea Happy
Squad 2: Seed MC Yoda Ragnarok Yonghwa Losira True

Heh, it does seem excessive. But since SC2 is more individual league base (unless you are in PL), it isn't really a big deal. If you look like IEM WC, LG-IM-SK has Mvp, MC, Yonghwa, First and Yoda participating.

How do you know that ? IDK why everyone decided that, if someone doesn't renew his contract with eSF team, he must be joining KeSPA for sure.
good to see lg-im grabbing a big name player even though they are stacked with code a/low level code s talent they are really lacking in the code s contender right now

MMA with his two golden pins, MC responding by pointing at his, Mvps and Nesteas while Seed joins in. And then Mvp and MC look at Squirtle and laugh. Squirtle runs out crying and quits the team.

Because Squirtle left after PartinG left, and PartinG joined SKT T1 and cashed in, so oooobviously the two are related

Is there really a true Code S contender right now? If you look at the Ro4 now with Taeja, Curious, Symbol, Roro. All great players of course. But were they really hyped to be contenders at the start of the season (Taeja was injured). I would say the 'favorites' were probably Life, Leenock, Bogus, PartinG following by DRG, Soulkey perhaps.
Both Sniper and Seed weren't 'contender' when they won. Code S just so stacked now that most of Code S getting on a hot run can take the title. This is especially true for next season (and maybe even the one after) as the HoTS meta developes.
LG-IM likes to pick up players that crush them in team leagues... ByuL after the 4kill in 2012 GSTL Season 3 and now Squirtle after his 3kill in the IPTL finals... + Show Spoiler +
Maybe they'll actually win a second GSTL now... + Show Spoiler +

I say he agreed to take a significant cut from what he was going for when he left ST, because things didn't pan out the way he had hoped, he didn't get the offers from KesPA teams that he was expecting to get.
After leaving the team, I went back home and just kept on practicing. For now, I'm still looking for a team. I think because the rumors said that I'm trying to join a KeSPA team is why I haven't received any contacts from overseas teams. While it's true that I asked around KeSPA teams and found out my options, I never actually said that that's where I was heading. To be exact, there is not a single team out there yet that I am currently in negotiations with.

Maybe Squirtle doesn't have the best English... Or Khaldor isn't the best at understanding broken/Koreans trying to speak English... Or he asked around KeSPA and they were total dicks and he then decided that he hates them.
Haaaaahaaahahhaaaahhhaaaa.... WOW. Fantastic. IM keeps giving me more reasons to love them. I just don't know who to count as my favourite team, it's too hard.
IM finally have excellent protoss in their squad. They have few very good but after Seed started his post-GSL-championship "slump", they didn't have any top caliber protoss.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. Where's the people saying that IM was struggling? I wonder if Squirtle will get along with Mvp. I wonder if he'll ever forgive him, lol.

Steelseries are Danish.
as a Dane that has to annoy you :p
The fact that he doesn't know they are Danish? Not really, I thought it was common knowledge, considering that their most known spokesperson (Kim Rom) is Danish .
I remember back in 2011 IM was pretty much just Mvp, Happy, Nestea and Losira. Look at their Protoss lineup now. Without a question the sickest lineup overall and by far the best Protoss line out of any team in the world. Also I'm really happy for Squirtle. Should be interesting to see him on the same team as Mvp.

On Startales facebook page, they said that squirtle intended to join a kespa team. and in a winner interview, he said he was exploring his options with kespa, got an offer from them, but he still was hoping for offers from other teams, which makes me think that he really wanted to join a kespa but they didn't offer him enough.

You're talking about 2011, right? When LosirA placed high in MLG (losing to MMA) and was a GSL finalist, when Happy was demolishing in team leagues, when NesTea was looking fearsome (3 GSLs!), when Mvp was looking even more fearsome (do I even need to mention his 2011 path of glory?)
2013 has more depth, but I feel like 2011 IM had more star power, mostly because Mvp was DOMINATING.

all these messages about Koreans give interesting evidence to what their culture is like and what they value as people. and congrats to IM and Squirtle.
Though I'm sad he left ST, I really think that staying in the eSF was a good idea. LG-IM now has what could possibly be the best protoss line up since oGs had MC.
I wonder how this affects the relationship between Mvp and Squirtle
EDIT: I suddenly had a vision of Mvp and Squirtle cuddling together in blankets on the couch, with Squirtles head on Mvps shoulders as they both watch their old finals together....
StarTale, Azubu and IM definitely the most powerful team right now outside KeSPA. They could potentially compete in Proleague on more than even footing.
I suppose he wanted a better salary, and it probably doesn't get better than at IM. I have no idea what any team pays any of their players, but with the sponsors IM has, one can assume they pay the most. Happy for Squirtle!

LG-IM.... the rich get richer. This team is so stacked, I can't see them winning any less than two GSTL championships this year. This is especially true with the re-emergence of Ragnarok and the new player Ruin who looks pretty solid.
I can't imagine LGIM having much more money to throw around, then startale.. When squirtle and parting left ST I assumed it was in search of more money.
The same way Squirtle helped Parting hone is match up on build orders and general philosophy, hopefully it will happen with MC too. He seems to have such a brutal and control oriented style, some elegance would come a long way to help MC not really on always being perfect with his control to win.
And of course, I'm excited for Squirtle in his own right.
Now I don't know whether or not to change my logo to SKT or IM... My two favorite players are on those teams. And I can't stay with startale after Curious beat Parting like that...
I did expect this because Squirtle had that IM bag in the GSL booth. Congratulations to both Squirtle and IM for picking up a great team and a great player respectively.

congratulations to squirtle, though. it's hard to imagine someone not improving with the kind of practice partners these guys have access to. and the thought of these guys improving is just scary.
wwttttfff IM toss OP, which is awesome, but in a way I'm kinda sad about that, cause now we'll probably see even less of my boy first play. Still, that Protoss lineup is just insane.
I am really happy for Squirtle. I do hope he can get over some of his nerve issues. He seems to be 1 of the more nervous players. But, wow he is so good and he is now on a great team. This is awesome.

You didn't see the ridicoulus S2 finals against Mvp with his sick 0-3 into almost 4-3 comeback? He showed such mental strength then. It was so impressing. But yeah, after losing to Symbol in ro32 in S3 (after manner nexusing him the first game), he has been a bit more shaky.
(Though he played well at WCS and won FXOpen 6 crushing e.g. Parting 4-0 and Seed 2-1)
When I was the the Code S earlier this season, I met Squirtle outside on our way to the Subway and he had an LG-IM backpack... Looks like that was a bit of foreshadowing

This actually concerns me. I'd rather have the talent spread out so that all the teams have a good chance to stay afloat through sponsorships and results. If only one or two teams dominate, it's not good for the scene.
To be honest with EG/TL ' s current pro league form, I wouldn't be surprised if they get replaced by LGIM next season. As if Kespa would let that happen...

I agree. But it is somewhat a chicken and egg problem.
If a team is doing poorly in terms of results, they probably are not getting new sponsors (might even lose them) and when top free agents do come into the market, they cannot afford them. The only people that can afford them are the teams that are doing well already and the cycle continues

I am not sure about that. EGTL brings in the foreign viewers. And I am not sure their form is an issue for Kespa because someone has to finish last. Does it matter to Kespa whether that team is EGTL or STX or some other team? Probably not a big issue.

Uh huh. Similarly, you need all the teams to be financially stable before you can instate some kind of parity system with regards to free agents / draftees / trainees. No point sending a promising youngster to a lousy team if they can't develop him due to lack of funds (and therefore, lack of equipment/practice/stable home environment/tournament opportunities/etc). That's a big advantage of Kespa teams: even the worst teams have stable and long term sponsors that will back them, that's why Kespa can have an institutional draft and recruitment process that promotes talent distribution... which makes teams more sustainable. It's a cycle. eSF would do well to get all of their teams one main sponsor like LG does with IM.

Is there any reason why proleague can't have ten teams for the next season? LGIM and some other ESF team? Or maybe gom has a contract with the ESF teams forbidding them to going to proleague if they want to play in the GSTL.

I think with the eSF teams It's either all of them or none of them, LG-IM isn't going to abandon them and go join Proleague while the rest of the teams struggle to find sponsors.

4 seasons only :p
Blizzard cup counts too.
IM already has noone in the top 4 of this season, anyway, so still max 4. i don't consider the blizzard cup nearly as prestigious as a GSL season, though they are similarly counted

And PL conflicts with GSTL since GSTL is usually on weekends (GSL during weekdays). But who know what will happen after this season of PL. it is still 6 months away. Maybe we will get a merge of the leagues.
