Personally I thought it was because beef/meat is expensive but super delicious in Korea, and buying it for someone is a gesture of good will. Edit: I must admit I don't know why just beef is considered such a good gift though, as opposed to other things. I guess it's because people like having a good time over dinner. | ||

Can someone please tell me what is the significance of this in Korea culture? i'd assume it has to do with korean bbq. when referring to korean bbq, its usually samgyupsar, pork belly but beef costs more. instead of saying treat us to porkbelly, treat us to some beef. its like, instead of buying us a round of soju, buy us a round of johnny walker blue, not to that exaggeration but its emphasizing the demand for better than usual treatment. when theres a mean for celebration, the main person usually "shoots"; takes care of the bill, hence buy us beef (cost more), not pork (cost less). | ||

Beef is very expensive in Korea, Korean beef. Imported beef from other countries are cheaper though. | ||
