Hmm, it is one of the easiest languages to learn if you ask me, i learned english and french in school and i think french is WAY harder. Also i think german is pretty damn hard to learn with the retarded der, die, das articles. So, he should be quite fine and also Polt knows english pretty well already and if you are actually forced to speak a language 24/7 you learn it even faster
Happy for him that he can approach his dreams and i love to see more of him!

At least he won't be participating GSL any time soon. That's enough to be sad about.

Do you guys know what school Polt will be attending?

Yeah, english is pretty easy. But for the comparaison, French is probably the hardest in western europe. ( because finnish, russian and stuff are another level in that x) )

You know you guys find English easy because it takes loads from German and loads from French? So for someone coming from a Korean background that will OBVIOUSLY be very different. Obviously it's easy for you to learn English in the same way it's easy for an English-speaking person to learn French or German.
As a side note - having learned plenty of French I don't see what makes it harder than any other western european language.

If hes coming to study in the US, I hope to see him in some Collegiate StarLeague (CSL) action! That would be pretty insane.

English is relatively easy to learn compare to most other languages. It also helps that English is so wide spread globally. Even Koreans who do not study English will know some basic English words. You see English used in Kpop, advertisements and so forth.

given that Polt has a fairly good at english compared to other Korean pro-gamers, I think now the hard part is picking up on all the intricacies, idioms, and such to sound like a native speaker. I'm thinking he wants to be on the level like other people who can speak both fluently (lilsusie, smix, etc.) where when they speak in Korean or English, they sound like and talk like a native speaker.
Random English words tossed into ads and products does not mean that people seeing them automatically become good at English. Heck, as someone from Hong Kong, you should know that having English all around you in a similar manner does not equal to proficient English!

I love how off topic some of these threads get. I'm sure Polt will do excellent in his studies and continue to wreck shops in SC2

Love how whenever a player leaves a Team there is like 15 posts of EG OR TL...
Obviously he's joining both

French is harder than many other languages is because its quite different from other languages in grammar. (comparing with european languages since those are the only once i have a decent idea about their grammar.
But there are languages such as finnish that are just plain dumb in how hard it is to learn. I find Korean/Japanese to be easier to grasp than finnish and I'm swedish with serveral finnish friends.. ~~

Don't forget that learning from german to english is a lot easier then from an asian language to english. If it is anything like japanese/chinese you can't simply translate word for word since the grammar is beyond just different, its a completely different world. oh and if you want a retarded language to learn go for dutch, we got more exceptions then stuff that follows the rules.

I am not saying people would be proficient just because of have English all around them. It is just that at least they have SOME exposure as compare to something like French or German.

You mean germanic languages, not european.
Because French grammar is quite similar to other romance languages, but with the least intuitive ortography of all since it allows for an obscene amount of homonyms and silent letters.

Wish people would stop confusing romantic and romance in regards to language. I mean, I understand that there is such a thing as a romance language, it's just seems like a global version of Chinese whispers, with it originating at Romanic languages, and now being a romance language.
