Axiom eSports has signed former SlayerS Terran Ryung. Considered to be one of the strongest TvT players in the world, Ryung joins former SlayerS comrade-in-arms CranK as the second member of our team.

Considered to be one of the best competitive TvTers in the world, Ryung finally signs with Axiom eSports. This was previously announced through the SlayerS fiasco. Currently up in the air and discussion is MMA, another ex-SlayerS Terran player: Source.

Ryung has been a strong contender in the GSL since May of 2011, bouncing between Code A and Code S. In 2012, he has remained in Code S and/or Code A. His recent foreign accomplishment is reaching the round of 16 at NASL Finals (season 3).

Sorry, if bad topic. I'm very tired

That's a great pick up for Axiom (although we kinda knew it)

All the best Ryung

It would have been cool if TB could have somehow got the rights to the SlayerS brand and just continued it without Jessica. Easier said than done I know.

Always liked Ryung. TB is great too. Glad to see them working together.

Now... if we could just somehow... get rid of Z and P, we'd be set.

MMA is probably deciding and taking his time. He reportedly has at least two good offers (EG&Axiom), and he might have more. He's a really hard player to sign it would feel like. While his name is huge in the foreign scene, and he is a two-time GSL champion and was the best player in the world in the final months of 2011, he has fallen off in a big way recently and had his reputation take a big hit with the Slayers drama.

It really depends on if a team believes he can recapture his old magic.

I would write some really bad jokes about it if my limited interactions with MMA hadn't humanized him just barely enough to make me feel bad to do so

Yeah you're right.

It's not like Teamliquid, LighT and ESC made the same mistake this weekend or anything.

Congratulations to everyone involved, TB and his e-sports endeavors continue to show signs of promise and savvy. I'll definitely be watching both Crank and Ryung, along with any other players whom may or may not tag along

Lol, TB you must have some of the thinnest skin of anyone in the community. There are always gonna be negative posts like this from some people and you are one of the few people that I see respond to so many of them. Just rise above it and let the negative people have their opinion. Other than that good luck with Ryung! Hopefully he gets a little bit more stability from you guys than he had with Slayers.

Couldnt agree more.
MMA has the history but his mediocre GSL runs raise questions.

This post made me laugh really hard for some reason. I have been thinking the same thing, it's really quite funny how contrasted the rumored contract offers are in nature. I wonder how similar they are from a monetary perspective though, I would assume Axiom has to be somewhat competitive or he wouldn't even be considering them at this point.

Anyway since we're talking about Ryung:

Not being at the SlayerS house shouldn't affect him that much - he actually had his best run (IMO) when he left the house and started playing from home. At the very least, I don't think being on Axiom and playing from home is any reason for him to get worse. Being able to put drama aside and get a fresh start can be a good motivator as well, so we'll see what happens.

The problems with Ryung are the ones that would exist regardless of team. He's inconsistent, and his TvP is very lackluster. Those are things he was always going to have to figure out if he wanted to get past being a Ro16 player in Code S.

On the other hand he's going to be playing a fuckton of tvp with Crank. I haven't followed the scene much recently do I don't know how good Cranks pvt is though.

While that guy's quote is really stupid... I'd add that what happened with KawaiiRice was a bit different. The website said WR 3 would start at 9:30pm, as did the board in front, so we went to go do an interview. We ended it at 9:30, got back to the floor at 9:34 only to find out that his match had been called by the admin 15 minutes early.

Obviously Crank's situation would have been equally solvable by better communication from MLG.

When their head admin doesn't even know when games are supposed to be, it's a problem. When I get told "don't pay attention to the website because they might change times," it's a problem... and when they don't even follow a posted schedule (I.E. calling a match scheduled for 9 30 at 9 15) it's a problem.

Nice pickup by Axion! I wonder if this means they are making a big dip into the sc2 team market now since they just aquired a top level terran.

Regarding ESC, here's the story:

On November 07 2012 15:27 EKnaus wrote:
An update on the Daisy DQ with his match vs HwangSin...

According to Daisy, he said that he asked a judge about what time his match would be the next day and the judge didn't know so he went online to check and the website said "Loser Round 5 - 11.00am", so he arrived the next day at 10.20am thinking he was early, but a referee told him that he defaulted because he was late by about 10min. He was more confused how Ret was able to play vs HwangSin when he was late by 1 hour, starting the match 1-0 in HwangSin's favor.

That's all the information I'm able to give right now, however.

Crank was supposed to play another game, after he already got back to his hotel, and was super tired from traveling on last minute to get to event, afaik.

Congrats to Ryung! Very excited to see him on Ax. Also, nice to see more video content for announcement like this.

Hoping for an update for MMA soon. He has strong connections to both teams so it'll be interesting to see how this develops.

Are there any racing games that are big as eSports? There was some traction behind Trackmania and there's some kart racing game that's on OGN, right? Orion's future, just saying.

Also, grats Ryung and all.

Congrats to Ryung, TB, his wife and Axiom. Glad to see SlayerS players getting to pursue competition and Axiom is clearly a solidly run team in contrast to a few of the other teams that have been contracting team-less Koreans lately...

Ryung's been one of my favorite players since he beat Yonghwa and gave Mvp a run for his money in the second GSTL. Awesome to see that he'll probably be at more events

Korean eSports in general is not great for the players. As for Slayers, there really is no way to tell how conditions really were.

Is there any possibity to see Axiom players play in GSTL in the near future with another team (like there used to be oGsTL and EGSlayerS, or like TSLMill nowadays even if any player from Millenium ever play in GSTL under this agreement) ?

Yeah you're right.

It's not like Teamliquid, LighT and ESC made the same mistake this weekend or anything.

Why do you always respond to anything negative about something that has to do with you on such a personal level?
He made a legitimate concern about your team and used a recent example to validate his point. Who cares who else made mistakes, mistakes are errors no matter what and if your team did them you should be responsible and apologize, try to fix them in the future, and not counter by saying others made the same mistakes, that doesn't make your error any better/worse.

Gratz to Ryung, being on Axiom should make his life a lot easier, I just really wish SlayerS was still around, what an amazing team

TB's problem isn't that he's thin-skinned. The issue here is that he actually still reads community forums. He's one of the few community figureheads that hasn't given up completely on the hordes of retardation that fill our community.

If he decides to take the time to put down some punk, then I'm all for it. For me, it's always nice to see an idiot get put in his place.

Great news!

One thing though; and i hope it will finally start to catch on to everyone:
It's Intricacy/Genna Bain, NOT TB who runs Axiom eSports.

Edit for clarification: As much as TB has done/is doing for eSports, i think it's just fair to recognize Genna for what she is doing.

Congratz Ryung and TB, really cool to see. But are you sure you want to sign a player who loses to a kid/(your son?) in a racing game? I don't know...

But jokes aside, has anyone noticed that Demuslim and TB actually write in their dialect? Like total sirs? Kinda scary^^.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

You know what I think? If Axiom can sign enough ex-SlayerS players, and make it work, then it would be the biggest slap in the face on SlayerS management.

Im not sure if you saw his appology or not, but he took full responsibility of the incident. and apologized!!

if you can not understand the honest mistake from MLG then i dont know what to say to you. ultimately its the teams responsibility, and he owned up to that. but the MLG schedules are horrendous to keep up with.

The video explanation says "Axiom eSports has signed former SlayerS Terran Ryung. Considered to be one of the strongest TvT players in the world, Ryung joins former SlayerS comrade-in-arms CranK as the second member of our team."

That does not, in any way, imply that they've picked up multiple Terrans. It just says that they've picked up a great TvT player.

And I agree. Congratulations to Axiom and Ryung

Sorry but at this point team Axiom is now team FAILURE, there are many variables involved but at this point Axiom have failed early and failed hard.

So they've picked up a second player in Ryung, but they've shown they're inable to get 1 foreign player to a simple 1 scheduled match in an MLG tournament. The entire "team process" was getting 1 guy to 1 match at the right time at the right place and they couldn't do that.

It is not that hard. Of all the teams I could mention EG managed to get all their guys to all their matches, this is what a well run team does.

They fly someone halfway around the world and totally fuck up their scheduling. The guy is still live in the tournament but they're fine with him sleeping in the hotel. Really? It's not that hard? Total->Failure.

Edit: A typo or two.

I get the feeling you just want to rant, any normal person with half a brain would be able to muster the understanding for this mistake. if you have not read what goes on at MLGs if you have not read the reasons and apologies then you are an even bigger failure.

If your bus is supposed to arrive at 10:00 and you plan for that but somehow the bus is earlier than expected but you are right on time causing you to mis your bus. doesnt make YOU the incompetent one. sure you could goto the busstop now if you want to catch your bus tomorrow.. but who the f does that?

I actually agree, however my point was that at this tournament in 2012 all of the EG guys were in the right place at the right time. I'm not much of an EG fan but SirScoots/EG managed to get everyone in the right place at the right time. Maybe it's as hard as herding cats but they did it. So did a bunch of other teams. End of story.

Axiom with 1 player and 1 upcoming match failed to do so, this is the simple fact.

And there's been several occasion during MLG when other teams have failed, MLG is notorious for their hectic schedule. Of course people should hold Axiom accountable for mistakes but it's a easy mistake to make proven by the numerous occasions this have happened during all MLG's. Maybe people should cut a brand new team a little slack. And having 1 player doesn't necessarily make it easier since there's less people on a team that can discover mistakes.

Guess we know who MMA is looking to go to now as well. Good pick up, hopefully the seemingly simpler management structure of Axiom will benefit Ryung.

Seriously ppl are asking me what the many variables are?

- cross cultural differences
- language barrier, after it's been through translators
- time zones
- keeping up with the MLG schedule, as hard as it may have been to figure out
- a mixture of all of the above

I really don't understand what Axiom were focusing on, to miss that there were going to be 4 rounds of the loser bracket played on Saturday. For some reason they assumed there wouldn't even be 1 round, in the end 4 were played.

I don't know why ppl are so defensive, I'm not allowed to correctly point out that the failure was from Axiom and not MLG or Crank?

Sure you can do that, but calling the whole team a failure? Seriously...

And by that variables many teams, including Liquid, EG, Fnatic, FXO (x3) etc would be failures. Yet those teams are amongst the most successful in SC2. Maybe you should reconsider your point of view.

But they have already admitted that they made the mistake. What else do you want from them?
Why does this single mistake turn their whole team into "Team FAILURE"?

Yeah you're right.

It's not like Teamliquid, LighT and ESC made the same mistake this weekend or anything.

I'd be just as pissed too. Daylight savings time is one thing, but when the schedule is always changing that's another.

Anyway, interesting pick-ups TB, Genna and Husky. GL Ryung.

Oh man, poor MMA. I think if he looks past the money EG has, he will see the trend of players falling off, and will take the smart choice. Nobody can blame him either way though :/

I find it funny how people are hating on the players and teams because of MLG... It's MLG.. It's poorly run sometimes.

If he looks past the money he will see friends he got to know as he lived with them, management he got to know and is finally in a solid Team that is over 10 years old. And he gets a salary which helps him to continue being a pro (assuming he would get more with EG than Axiom, which i don't know). Yes, he will probably choose the smart choice.

Those are factors, not variables. They are also shared with practically every other international SC2 team. What exactly does your "variable list" try to explain? How exactly does this correctly point out a failure on Axiom's part. Your list could just as easily have been applied to the MLG staff.

I wish TB had more tolerance for typing stuff. I know he got into Entertainment trough radio, so maybe keep reading the bullshit and make a special show - What do I think about senseless liars on public forums?

It seems that he replies only once or twice a thread, which only gives the haters that got away more confidence :D

Anyway I saw it on twitter, amazing video and I am happy Genna and TB has another kid to look after

EDIT: If RedC actually respects SirScoots than he would understand the issue from MLG, since OMGGrandPa stated several times, how problematic these tournaments are and this will happen to everybody.

I showed up at 9:36 for round 3? 4? And got ff'ed one game even though the schedule said 9:30 because they decided to call the round at 9:15 and I was at an interview until 9:31. Pretty cool.

I think at this point, despite my love for MLG, the default rules and the 'times' they give you at MLGs are always, and will always be wonky as fuck. They'll say 9:30, and rules state there's a 15 minute default rule, but then, they just without any announcement, call you at 9:15. This has happened to many many players at all levels of competition. Even the koreans get scrambled around and aren't allowed to leave the venue most of the time because they can't risk being defaulted. It sucks but happens. Kinda unfair to attack TB/Axiom, TL LighT or ESC on this, since it happens to everyone.

Erm.. dude, MLG is known for moving previously scheduled matches up, down and sideways with no warning whatsoever. Multiple major teams had their players miss games this MLG because the matches got their times changed without warning.
Crank missing a game is entirely understandable on his and Axiom's part; the blame lies with MLG.

But you do have to keep in mind that MMA's results started to decline right around the time SlayerS drama started to evolve. It'd be difficult to argue that there was no correlation between MMA's declining results and the uncomfortable situation the team was in

Yeah you're right.

It's not like Teamliquid, LighT and ESC made the same mistake this weekend or anything.

What happened? I wasn't around to see it.

MLG made stupid scheduling errors and there was no communication between MLG and the players team or the player themselves and people ended up getting either DQ'd completely or losing 1 round of the series.

Using Ret as one of the examples. He tweeted he was going back to the hotel so he could get rest for championship sunday (pretty much saying he figured he was done playing for the day) couple hours later MLG had him scheduled to play and Smix sent a tweet to Ret's GF to get him back to the venue because Ret was still scheduled for a match. Makes it in time to just be DQ'd from 1 game and then loses the rest of the series. Same happened to CranK, Hwangsin, and from now reading the thread KawaiiRice aswell.

To be fair, CLR 1/2 have ALWAYS been played Saturday night, this was not a new rule.

It's as much the managers fault as it is MLGs.

I spent all of Saturday hovering over my players JUST to make sure this didn't happen to them.

I wonder if we can have a multi game show match beat down arena smack down between Ryung and Orion. Best of 101 in racing game of choice then best of 101 in Starcraft 2. I place a thousand esports dollars on Orion winning.

I love Ryung's TvT play...that's how I got so good at it! I hope he does well...all of that MMA overshadowing really got me rooting for him. Axiom doesn't seem like a very interesting team though IMO...but as long as he's happy.

Whenever I read "Ryung" I hear it in Rotterdam's voice, aka "Re-oong" and it makes me smile :D

Anyway, good signing, more players like these two and Axiom is going to have a chance to make some noise.

He never got the recognition he deserved because MMA's star shone so bright.

Should definitely crush face in foreign tournaments.

Even though Axiom has signed some players they dont have the "support mechanism" for those players yet ... a team house and a manager/coach. That seems to be necessary to get good and concentrated training and tactics for the team and its players.

I really hope to see Axiom win the GSTL some day ...

Logic would be that we would have to apologize and take responsibility for it, which we did.

I don't see any other team doing that, so I'd say we are doing our job correctly.

The argument may be made that perhaps instead of all these teams messing up, MLG is just horribly unorganized chaos that is almost impossible to sort out at the best of times.

I've been pretty damn neutral towards TB, and by extension Genna, sense the release of SC2, but now with them supporting Crank and Ryung they are becoming more and more positive. If they get MMA i'll be pretty damn happy that Ryung+MMA+Crank stayed on the same team in the end.

I don't see any other team doing that, so I'd say we are doing our job correctly.

Also the issue never was about who messed up, but if Axiom is a failure. Which, what TB originally said, very nicely disproved logically (One cannot say one team is a failure because of one incident, when they say the same incident did not result into failure of other teams). With all the doom and gloom I feel obliged: for now.

To tell the truth the whole MLG bracket now requires a degree in math and planning to understand and keep in mind. Players should NEVER be bothered with that kind of junk and thus the whole can be blamed pretty much on the organization. People can just take a look at the Liquipedia page to see what I mean ... which "end" of a partial bracket goes where? and even the MLG bracket wasnt updated fast enough most of the time.

Lets hope they manage to find some sponsors soonish to help carry the financial burden. Ryung looked somewhat "empty" in his team shirt today in the GSL.

I really hope this is a sarcastic post, because if not you might be one of the dumbest people I've ever seen.

Have you tried to follow the bracket while the tournament was running? Several "lines" of games listed and lots of players coming down to a losers match ... but from where? Just look at it and especially look at the open bracket. I mean the Liquipedia needs THREE PAGES to list all the games and the complex interwoven format makes it hard to find anything easily.

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Fall/Championship

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Fall/Championship/Open_Bracket

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Fall/Championship/Open_Bracket_Losers

The brackets are filled now, but imagine half of them being empty and you wouldnt know which opponent would be going where in the bracket if he lost without an explanation booklet of 20 pages. My comment was sarcastic, but the truth is that MLG has made its own competition so hopelessly complicated that I feel there are only a handful of people who know "what goes where" at all times. So any issues with their timings and matches is their fault.

If you mean the ends of the Open Bracket, there's re-seeding to determine the survivors' places in Groups (from OWB) and the Championship Losers Bracket (from OLB), so there isn't really enough information to figure that out using the LP brackets alone (since seed numbers aren't included in them). You need the official MLG brackets (which have the seed numbers) to get the complete picture.

Edit: Also, since it's a re-seeding process, nobody knows where all the players will go in which slots until most (or all) the players have been determined (one match can change several players' positions). However, it was nice to see that LP had the correct positions for the OWB Groups players right after the last OWB game, while MLG was on break "figuring out" the bracket in Dallas.

Great pickup and great result for Ryung and the team. First ro16! Pump Ryungs tires a little bit TB, I think he could have taken game 2 against Life if he was more confident, and hes gonna need it to face the upcoming swarm.

Can see Ryung going pretty far this GSL depending on how the other groups go. His TvT is always top-notch and he has a chance in that matchup against anyone, his vZ also looked a lot better today as I'd imagine he actually prepared for those matchups. I'm not so sure how he'd fare against the vT stalwarts of Creator/Parting if they continue to progress though. Here's hoping!

Great job for getting to Code S RO8 Ryung!
It's always a pleasure to see more Terrans perform well during these dark Zerg times.
Hmm... I find myself rooting for Terran more than Protoss nowadays. I think I may be converted.

Stayed up to watch Ryung playing as Axiom and I was not at all unhappy. Well done!

Perhaps slayers was a curse to Ryung. I hope he flies high after this. Actually i hope all the ex-slayers to do well.

I wish all the ex-Slayers players would go to Axiom. And then the team would all decide to rename the team to "SlayerS ReborN" and eventually end up dropping the "ReborN" because it's not catchy enough. So it would be just like the old Slayers, just without Boxer. And like 6 months later, Boxer would see his old team and wouldn't be able to help himself, and would abandon SKT1 and go coach Slayers again and start playing while he's at it and bring amazing games to the fans.

If only, though...
Also, it seems a bit odd that Axiom has exclusively ex-Slayers players, even if it's only 2 (maybe 3 soon), players.
You mean I just write stuff here and other people can see it?

And then he bring Jessica back into it and it all goes to shit again. No thanks.

He always seemed like a rather nice person. It's unfortunate that he got involved in so much drama.
