AZUBU has hired former Brood War pro-gamer and MBCGame announcer IntoTheRain as their StarCraft 2 head coach. IntoTheRain was one of the earliest pro-gamers, and was at his best around 2000~2001, famous for two-base timing rushes in PvZ back in the days where everyone was getting destroyed by lurker containment.
In addition, AZUBU have also brought on OnGameNet caster Son Dae Young as a new League of Legends coach. Both of them will be appearing on AZUBU TV, a new venture that will be unveiled in the future.
At the time, viOLet is the only StarCraft II player on AZUBU. There were no specific mentions about AZUBU's plans to expand their StarCraft II team in the article.
Seeing them pick a sc2 coach is really promising they'll begin acquiring more korean talent. can't wait to see what happens with them in the future and hope to see azubu grow and succeed.
Azubu did pretty darn well recently in S2 LoL, so perhaps with that backing they'll expand their sc2 team. Feels like they wouldn't get a coach otherwise.
Always happy to see a potential new team pop up. Then again, still waiting for MC to get a SK team.
Holy Crap! I remember this guy from ages ago. Him and Nada had some sick ass games. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND everyone check out some old BW vods of Nada vs IntoTheRain. He was also IntoTheRainbOw's mentor IIRC. Good pick up
...which was why I mentioned...he could have changed races (from BW to SC2, if it was ITRainbow). I'm merely pointing out the similarity of the names, and I find it curious that no distinction was made. One of the things I've heard most about Rainbow was that he was "old school" BW, so how am I supposed to know if that meant 2001 or 2005 or whatever.
Edit: And for the record, I did figure it out, I was mostly just enjoying the curiosity of such similar names.

I guess he could have changed races, but mentioning his season 1 finals vs Fruitdealer would have basically been obligatory, if it was him.

IntoTheRainbow aka HopeTorture aka ST_Rainbow was mentored by IntoTheRain in BW.

Soon might be a bit away. They could potentially be getting in the coach to help them do that so he can pick a "team" that he thinks he can work well with and make it more a start up ala SlayerS early-2011. I wouldn't mind seeing that.
Of course could just be pipe dreams. Might be only one or two extra people. I doubt it's none.

Kinda weird to get a coach with no SC2 experience though, so he's probably not going to be a gameplay coach. More likely he's going to be a practice/mentality/experience kinda coach, and maybe you're right, as a scout for talent.

Yep, the the similarity rises from the fact that they were in a clan called IntoThe. There's an interview with him from 2005 where IntoTheRain talks about how he thought he got the worst name (they were given a list of names to chose from.) He said he thought IntoTheAuir was the best name.
If anyone wants to watch some of his games, and laugh at how hilarious he looked back then, Pucca's Relive Series is casting the 2001 CocaCola OSL. And yes, this is back when they wore the space suits and had terrible hair. It's absolutely amazing to watch how different everything was back then.
Azubu is investing quite heavily into esports. Two korean LoL teams, Violet, sponsoring and international CSL, and now this all in the last few months. I wonder what prompted this direction? Best of luck to them

intotherain is the reason intotherainbow( hopetorture/st_rainbow) was good in bw. they were both good afaik

I'm not sure it can be said that anything was wrong with them, just that they liked interesting ID's. IntoTheRain was a cool ID. Then Sung Je was influenced and taught by ITR and decided to go by IntoTheRainBOw. He eventually shortened it to just RainBOw and that's the RainBOw you have today. Sorta.

I used to go by intotherain in wc3 and everyone would ask me if I was him or knew him , so this is who he was. Well looks promising , seeing retired pros become coaches reminds me of national sports haha , e-sports is growing and I love it !
Can't wait to see what Azubu does with their SC2 lineup. Having viOlet as a player and IntoTheRain as a coach already looks pretty badass, should be interesting to see who else they pick up.
Questionable move, viOlet isn't the same player he was half a year ago and there aren't great Korean free agents available.
Unless they move viOlet to Korea and get a house, I can't see them attracting too many of disbanded Air Force Ace nor possible disbandment of 8th team.
I hope they will go for NSHS or SlayerS players when their eventual collapses occur.
You can sense a huge team expansion or this is a huge waste.

Yeah sure the only logical next step after getting a korean player and a korean coach is to get a foreigner who is disliked heavily in korea, dat logic bro.
Good to see them grow their team, I wish we'd see more coaching commentators, I really hope they become a legitimate star 2 team within korea with 10+ players, they have the money for sure.

Probably meaning that Azubu will be expending itself, because i don't really thinks violet needs a personnal coach (don't get me wrong i don't think violet is a god but a team coach is enough i think :p )

There was no need for distinction because nobody should get them confused as they are not the same name... There's a TL mod with a similar name and nobody brought him into this.
Their two lol teams are one of the best in the worl actually. Plus they did very well at ogn lol so their like to tier team of LOL witch is a more valuable marquet than sc2 atm, because lots of people watch it .

Too bad gunwoong has fucked the majority of the goodwill towards frost people still like rapidstar, madlife and shy but gunwoong has single handedly turned loads of people off frost.

How so? What happened?
Apparently he's a massive shit stirrer in Korea he was blamed for locodoco leaving frost to join startale and he fucked over someone on LG-IM by kicking him off just before some matches for when frost was mig frost . Most recently at the world finals he was caught looking at the minimap (Basically the set up for the world finals allowed the teams to see the minimap on the big screen because riot can be fucking retarded) and pinged which got frost sued for 30k the Koreans hate him so much.
Interesting, I wonder if Azubu will be picking up some of the players from now defunct Korean teams (Though OGS now formed APEX aka OGS+Morrow), looking to pick up already contracted players and draw from more established teams. Should be interesting to see what Violet will do with a coach.

Azubu has shown they can support The Champions in Korea and the two biggest LoL Korean teams, so any SC2 team they put together should be in good shape. Wouldn't be surprised to see them just absorb Slayers, HoSeo or maybe even a Prime or TSL.

I hadn't considered HoSeo, but it would be an good option. I would like to see Tassadar and Jjakji get into a healthier team environment, HoSeo has been difficult to watch these last few months. Slayers or TSL would be the better options in my opinion, I think the Slayers lineup would add a lot of depth to an AZUBU team. It is much more rounded out in terms of racial spread and ability while TSL is pretty Zerg heavy with a few heavy hitters.

But they could also get guys like WhiteRa, Grubby or GoOdy.
Azubu could become a main sponsor of a Korean team already established but without a main sponsor: HoSeo, Prime, TSL and Slayers.

or from humiliating your delusional usa pride? Get real man, even though there was a sketchy moment (the lv1 top push ping, but during that pause tsm also checked the screen ), you can't deny that they are MILES ahead of your precious tsm etc.
Anyway back on topic, wonder who they will be picking up. Hope some Slayers guys and no foreigners.

Cheating is cheating.... "Would've won anyways" is the worst argument here.
OT: Azubu has money so I think in a few months they will become one of the strongest Korean teams. KeSPA players are open for recruitment like Sea and many Slayers members also.

Given how GSTL and Proleague are both somewhat close to not really having enough teams to run their leagues I highly doubt that we'll continue to see two teamleagues in korea for much longer.
Anyways I really hope Azubu actually gets their new coach some players to train.
