You advance to ro4 for the first time. How do you feel?

First of all, I feel good. Symbol belittled me in his last interview and on GNN. He said he was going to win for sure and since I did a complete reverse sweep, I guess he needs to eat his words.

In Set 1, you started out in a bad spot but had a chance to come back. In the end, you still lost.

I didn’t practise for Whirlwind. For cross positions, I decided to rely purely on macro and game sense and had strategies only for close positions. Then, I saw it was cross positions and started slightly behind. Later on, it got better for me but I think I played with a negative mindset after falling behind.

You lost Set 2 as well.

I had a strategy lined up for Antiga Shipyard. I was supposed to block the ramp with sentries and wipe out the Zerg’s main but failed and fell behind significantly. Afterwards, I had a timing but lost due to bad control.

How did you feel when you were behind 0:2?

I was at 0:2 but I felt like I wouldn’t lose from Set 3 onward. I figured out how to win whilst watching the VODs. I had plans for the rest of the series and I think the good preparation paid off.

Did you plan the photon cannon rush in Set 5 or was it improvised?

It was planned. I took Symbol’s second overlord scouting path and his choice of builds into account when I chose that strategy. I was 100% certain it would work.

Many people expected Symbol to win. How did that make you feel?

No one expected me to win so I want to thank you (T/N: the reporter) for predicting my victory. I think you have an eye for these kinds of things (laugh).
Seriously though, many people expected me to lose helplessly. However, I’m confident I won’t lose to a Zerg as long as the map is balanced. I don’t know what basis they had for predicting a one sided loss for me but they’ll be regretting it now.

Your PvZ win rate is second out of all Protosses. Why are you so confident?

My team’s Zergs are so strong. There is no Zerg that can match ours in a long macro game. I won less than half of my games when I was practising. That’s why I’m confident against other players.

Who do you want to face in ro4?

Nestea of course. Not that I want to face another Zerg but if Nestea makes it, one member of our team is guaranteed a place in the finals. I hope it’s Nestea for our team’s sake. It’s our team’s best scenario. I’ll have no regrets even if I lose to Nestea. However, I will do my very best.
Then again, if Byun makes it, I’ll win.

This was your first best of 5 series so how was it?

I was a little unsure since it was my first after all. I spent the first week of practice on the ladder. Then one day, I received a ton of builds during mealtime. I compiled those builds and prepared thoroughly for today’s victory.

Have you reached your goal for this season?

I never have a goal. My principle is to focus on the game at hand. I will continue to play with this mindset. I think that if I try my best for every game, I can make my dreams come true.

Anything to add?

I want to thank True, Horror and Losira for practising with me. I’m going to treat my teammates to something nice. Wait for me, guys.
The coach and his wife have a lot of work to do so I want to say thank you. I’m also very grateful to my parents and my older brother. Lastly, I want to thank the sponsors LG electronics, SteelSeries, Googims, Nvidia and Coca cola.

+ Show Spoiler [Interview] +

You have succeeded in advancing to ro4. How do you feel?

I’m very moved because it’s my first ro4 in a long time. I think I haven’t gotten this far since the Blizzard Cup. There’s even a chance to face DRG again. I’m ecstatic.

It was a full set with both wins and losses. Did you expect this?

If I had taken Cloud Kingdom in Set 2, it would have been 3:0 so that’s regrettable. I was sure that my 4 gate would work in Set 4 as well. I believed he wouldn’t see it coming because I had just done it in the last set but he was well prepared. However, I was confident about winning on Ohana.

Set 2 was heavily in your favour but you lost. How did that happen?

I would have won if I just stayed in my base. But then, doing nothing is boring for both myself and the viewers. On the other hand, Taejea was excellent in his defence. I thought I would win with my attack but Taeja held out and it snowballed into falling behind in economy and eventually my loss.

Was Set 4 improvised?

Originally, I was going to use that build in just either Set 3 or Set 4. Still, A win rate of 50% for a build is pretty good. Like I said before, I was banking on the fact that my opponent would not see it coming once I revealed the build in a previous game.

Your participation in Homestory Cup could have made things more difficult for you.

Once the bracket was decided, I had two days to practise before attending Homestory Cup. I was in good condition and the games went well. My original plan was to go 3:0 so the defeat in Set 2 is regrettable but after that, it all went very well.

With MVP out of the tournament, this becomes your chance to start catching up in the number of championships.

It certainly is. In my opinion, I think ro4 will be 2 Zergs and 2 Protosses so I should have an easy time. My best match up is PvZ and with a little bit of work on my weaker aspects, I think I can take the championship.

You mean you expect DRG to advance to ro4?

Naniwa’s pretty good but he’s not at DRG’s level yet. Also, rather than the boring mirror match up, I’d rather have a chance at revenge.

If Naniwa does make it to ro4?

Then I’ll smash him 3:0. Every time he sees me, he says that I’m an easy player to beat. All this because of that one time he beat me with a 1 base all-in. My prize money so far is 5 times what Naniwa’s is so that means it will take 5 Naniwas to take me down. I shall teach him a lesson if we meet.

If you make it to the finals, who do you expect to meet?

I have 3 people in mind but can’t choose one. However, Nestea, with his wealth of experience, should be the most likely.

It has been 1 year 4 months or 8 seasons since you last got into ro4 of Code S.

I was in a slump midyear last year. This year, I don’t think I was desperate enough. Then, my girlfriend and my mother told me they wanted to see me in the finals. That was the turning point.
Also, with my move to SK gaming, I want to be the first player on a foreign team to become a GSL champion.

You must want your third championship.

Rather, I put more focus on my revival when I practise.

Anything to add?

Today, my girlfriend and the Webtoon author came to cheer me on. Thank you so much. Also, I want to thank MMA, Supernova and ASD for practising with me. I leave Korea for NASL tomorrow and I’ll make sure to do well there.
I want to thank my team’s sponsors Kingston, SteelSeries, Toshiba and also my manager Reis. Lastly, I want to thank Gom TV for holding such a great tournament.
Lastly, there is a lot of talk about the cross match between KeSPA and GSL. If I get the chance to participate, I’ll reveal my identity right from the beginning so please watch out for me. Ace underperformed a little in his games (T/N: Ace had already revealed this on twitter because he didn't want people guessing it was Squirtle or Parting) but I’ll show you how we GSL players fry the KeSPA players (laugh).

Seed is doing so well, I think it's fair to say he's the dark horse of this GSL. I can see him take either ByuN or NesTea in the semifinals, hoping for ByuN though since we haven't seen so much of Seed's PvT.

Naniwa is quickly becoming the player to hate in GSL.
Don'"t know exactly why, but the drama is quite fun.
I really hope Naniwa win against DRG, because after that he has a shot at killing MC.

Well... So far MC got smashed 3:1 by Nerchio, who had 10 times less in prize money than MC... Hell - he is entertaining :-)

I would have won if I just stayed in my base. But then, doing nothing is boring for both myself and the viewers. On the other hand, Taejea was excellent in his defence. I thought I would win with my attack but Taeja held out and it snowballed into falling behind in economy and eventually my loss.

MC gets it . Really liked these interviews, it feels like more Koreans are being confident and saying what they want in these interviews and not just routine answers. Then again, MC has a huge personality, and it seems Seed is a super confident person. Either way can't wait until the next round of 8.

so we got DRG saying he can do whatever he wants vs naniwa to win, and then MC saying "look, if he somehow makes it past DRG, i'm going to stomp his ass"
it's so much fun to see the naniwa vs korea rivalry going strong, reminds me of when idra was in the GSL and everyone was saying they wanted to beat him.
fun fun
now if naniwa beats DRG and MC, it might be the best GSL yet

Yeah I think so as well. especially since he gives a different reason for hating him every time as well.

at the first MLG spring arena he said it was because naniwa trolled MKP.

second time at HSC when SaSe confronted him about it he said he didn't have anything against him but he had to be mad at him for BMing an older Hyung (Nestea). and that you don't do something like that in Korea to an older hyung or else everybody must hate you.

and this time he says naniwa has called him bad, but at least publically it is quite known that naniwa respects MCs play a lot (through Twitter and interviews).

It's very rare for me to enjoy watching any of the protoss matchups because of the passivity, the balls, and the two-base timings; however, Seed actually makes it very fun. I think SC2 will grow in popularity if more protoss players, especially these new BW players, follow his example.

I think the Korean players are finally getting it. This type of minor trash talk while still truly discussing the game and their play is what we need. PERSONALITY. I absolutely love that it's not just "oh he's good, lets show good games, I hope to win" anymore, now it's "Oh yeah, he's good, but I'll smash him, no contest. I was bored and the fans don't like turtle games, so I decided to attack. I felt confident I could win, I was wrong, he did well"

I mean, just in general, showing confidence and a little witty banter back and forth, truly makes these players rememberable. Even players who are relatively unknown to the majority are creating stories.

I honestly want to thank Naniwa for a lot of this. I'm slowly becoming a fan, if for no other reason than he's making the Koreans cocky and in some cases crapping all over them. It's really giving them a sense of personality. I love it, absolutely love it.

I think the reason the Koreans are smack talking Naniwa is not that they got cocky, but because they just don't like him. I just get the feeling from Korean interviews that this isn't really the friendly rivalry kind of cocky.

Seed just became my favorite player behind MVP/Nestea. Also I like that he holds Nestea in such high regard. He considers him the best Zerg apparently. I guess he is biased since he is on his team but like 99% of other pros have been saying DRG/Symbol in recent interviews.

Yeah he did. I mean I can't blame him at all personally as a lot of pros seem to really dislike naniwa from what I have seen so far.

Yeah, MC is just one of the more outspoken pros I think. Many of them feel similarly.

MC kill NANIWA if he somehow makes it past DRG which is already doubtful. But i dont think everyone in korea hates him, or maybe they do as a person but they know he is a good player. But basically they all want to take him down for what he said to nestea and then for calling them bad.

MC vs Nestea finals for me would be epic.

he said he didn't have the mindset of a progamer back when he probe rushed. Not that he wasn't a progamer. As said in the interview, he has respect for Naniwa's skill.

No the interview he's referring too is where mc says naniwa "says so many bad words. Nestea idiot etc. I think mvp kill him".

At least that's how I remember the interview.

I'm sure a lot of players respect naniwas skill. That doesn't mean much though if everyone hates you as a person.

It's an energy drink owned by coke... so technically sponsored by coke.

Doubtful that it's a huge monetary sponsorship. I'd assume it's free products provided to the house with a small incentive package.

I predicted Seed to win the season and I'm feeling much more confident about it. He has the mindset of a champion. He knows how to prepare and win. All he needs is experience and he'll have a long reign as king of the IM GSL winning badass lineage.

MC has made it very clear that he has the opposite of respect for Naniwa, he considers him to be very bm and after the probe rush said that Naniwa is not a progamer and does not understand what it means to be a progamer and suggesting that Naniwa respects MC assumes that Naniwa respects anyone or anything which he has yet to show he does at any point in his career.

...

Dude...

Saying someone is good as a player is not the same as saying he's a good person/has the right mindset of a progamer. You can be the best player in the world and if you have a shit attitude people can still hate you while respecting your play.

I did not say MC does not think Naniwa is a good player, as you said he thinks he is pretty good, but that does not mean he respects him, his attitude or considers him to be a progamer in the way that koreans think about what a progamer should be.

The press release for the LG sponsorship said that they do, but I believe the other poster was talking about all of their players and that's why the response was " no "

Every single code s Korean seems to have a problem with naniwa. MC,DRG,Nestea they all say they will crush him and he's not very good, I think they all hate him

It isn't just MC and other Koreans who dislike NaNiWa; many members of the foreign community have also expressed their dislike for him. IdrA in particular has denounced his personality on many public platforms talking about his arrogance and rigid personality. I believe on Real Talk with JP he went on to say that if you were to ask anyone who has practiced with NaNiWa or spent any long period of time with him that he does come off as an arrogant person. He even went on to say that part of the reason he left coL was because they couldn't deal with his personality and that immediately after he signed with Quantic they were looking to get rid of him, but his results were too good.

These aren't my words, i have just heard other pro-gamers talking about him negatively. I know i have heard others talk about him in interviews as well but i don't want to misquote someone....

This is basically what I have heard about NaNiwa. The Real Talk with IdrA was rather blunt and it makes me wonder if that opinion is actually shared by other players/members of the community. IdrA also said that Quantic was going to try to get rid of NaNiwa, but I figure after repeat Ro8 appearances he's safe for now as long as he does not do anything too stupid. Obviously I cannot really comment on what NaNiwa is like, but I feel like every other pro I hear talk about him paints a pretty negative picture of him (though generally not quite as vividly as IdrA did).

I think that NaNiwa is the best foreigner, but I'm still rooting for DRG. I just do not like NaNiwa. He's just one of the members of the community who seems to always find their way to the center of the negative things that go on and get said (like Destiny, TT1, MajOr, etc.).

Naniwa is quickly becoming the player to hate in GSL.
Don'"t know exactly why, but the drama is quite fun.
I really hope Naniwa win against DRG, because after that he has a shot at killing MC.

I don't think it's hate. I think it's because they respect each other so much, they can afford to trashtalk... maybe

But I want a fired up match, I want fired up players, because the best rivalries give the best matches ever :D

Ty for translating soo quickly :D

My guess is that the whole eg team doesn't like naniwa, as he is twitter-harrasing them. Of other person who publicly said they don't like him, i can only come up with Nightend (at 4:02 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OZr_23k0LU). But this was 3 months ago.
I'm sure there are more who don't want to make it public.
