The chances of the playing in the tournament are definitely not zero... I'd say around 80% if they come..

did you even read his post, the coached said that KeSPA players won't play in non KeSPA leagues this year and vice versa. therefore the chance is 0%.

Firstly, it's not in the OP, secondly, it's not set in stone that BW pros won't play in non Kespa leagues yet, there's still alot of news to come, including the kespa-ogn-gom-blizzard announcmenet that will probably have a saying on who plays in who's leagues. So don't act like one coaches outdated statement is completely official.

Ya, probably they won't know for sure until after the Kespa-Gom meeting. Adam might have raised some good hype, but he also might have helped contribute to Kespa seeing the power they already hold in SC2.

Best not to saying anything until the deal is signed, in my book. It was exciting when it was posted, but now its getting scary because it was all so unclear.

Its clear the SC2 community REALLY wants to see Flash vs SC2 greats

Now that we've seen them play sc2 in the proleague does anyone else think that having them play sc2 at Anaheim would be a bad idea? I'm sure MLG wants to keep the hype around their new exclusive players and make a good first impression on all the fans who haven't seen them before. What will MLG viewers think when they see them play at their current level after just watching a bunch of top games from the current sc2 pros. Will they understand the difficulty of playing two games and how little time they've been playing full time? Or will they think everyone is bad and wonder mlg is wasting their time with these overhyped players.

Personally I think have them play bw (or sc2bw maps) would be a much better option that would make nobody look bad ( even if they've gotten worse very few will be able to compare to their previous bw skill and the commentators can talk about how hard everything in that game is) and keep the hype for when they play sc2 at the next event where they should look much better. It's either that or hots but I think MLG said they were worried about making them learn a third game quickly they might not look the best there either. Or maybe keep the spirit of the proleague and switch between the two or 3 games in each match.

But maybe they'll improve enough in the next two weeks and everything will be fine. Looking forward to the entire event either way!

I know they are competing in their own 8 man single elimination tournament. The point is if the games look bad they will all look bad and the mlg/kespa big exclusive deal will look bad and everything will lose a lot of the hype it currently has. They don't look good in proleague and it will very easy for everyone to compare to all pro games that they watched right before and after the kespa showmatch at MLG.

Will the commentators be able to make them look good if they play like the have the past couple of days?

Nobody expects them to shine over the progamers of SCII that play for over 2 years full time, while these BW pros practiced for one month. The idea is to make their presence known and start branding them.

Are you sure that people have accurate expectations of what they will see? If you watched inside the game about the proleague they all seemed rather disappointed and agreed that it deflated the hype to see them at MLG next month. Incontrol compared it to a terrible terrible movie and a overweight kid on a lopsided tricycle that will inevitably fall over. And these are pros who constantly follow the sc scene and should know how long and difficult it is to become good so they should have the best idea out of anyone that they can't shine over progamers of sc2 yet.

Is making them play sc2 right now at MLG the best way to brand these players? Do you think any of the kespa players have improved their brand among the 10000 foreign fans who watched the opening day proleague? Did any one of them gain any fans during the sc2 half. They probably have hurt their brand and hype especially among the ones who never watched broodwar. And MLG is risking that happening to their audience of over 10x the foreigners who saw proleague.

I just think that showing 100 000 people that watch mlg likely unimpressive games amongst themselves for a few hours is a bad way to make a first impression and brand these players. If someone makes an obvious mistake the audience will more likely think the player is dumb to do that than to consider factors like practice time and playing two games. If you wanted to introduce a sc2 fan to jeadong would you show them a game that looked like the one he played this weekend?

In conclusion playing sc2 at the next mlg might work out but it is risky. It is better to have them play anything else (sc2bw would be so perfect for this) or nothing at all and sell the current hype and branding to their audience. Just tell the audience how brilliant and talented and hard-working they were at that super difficult to do anything rts so they might be just as good at sc2 with some time in fact that one elephant article expects them to destroy everyone in a few months. Find out if the hype is justified when they play sc2 pros in our next tournament! All of that is difficult to keep in mind if they look bad right now so don't focus on games that make them look bad for hours of stream time it ruins hype and branding.

But maybe they will get better and the commentators will make everyone look good. I'm looking forward to watching either way

I really think it will make them look good. People think they will become gods and even if they play badly, it won't look as bad just because they are brood war pros. They will play their 8 man tourney and people will say OMG they've progressed so much in 2 months! They'll take it as a surprise. They will also make them seem better than they are because of the illusion that is they are better than they actually are. For example, if we make a fake scale of 1-10(10 being best, 1 being worst. Not comparing to any pro's. just a random scale.) They play and they're like a 4/10. People will end up saying they are a 7/10 just because they've played for 2 months and they are already huge names from a harder mechanics game. It's an illusion made from previous success that will pay off because i'd say about 90% will buy into it. It's been done with almost every brood war pro who has switched over so far.

I think you underestimate them, they won't look bad, probably not pro yet, but far from being bad. They are currently playing something like 8-10 hours a day, it won't take too long untill they get a sense of the game/builds.

I'm pretty sure 90+% of sc2 viewers won't be able to see the difference in skill between BW pros and Code S players as long as they don't compete against each other.
The other 10% should at least realize that after such a short period of time training a new game (+ still training bw) they cannot possibly be top players, yet.

I think the viewers will be smart enough to appreciate the impressiveness of their skill level given the amount of time they've played. Also the only people who can really discern between different grades of high level play (i.e. BW pros recently switched vs code S and code A) are people who play at a really high level themselves. Plenty of mid masters and below will tell you otherwise but they really don't have much of a clue about high-level decision making, timings, and reactions.
