[Interview] 2012 GSL Season 2 Code S ro32 Group B

You are the first to make the round of 16 this season. How do you feel?

I thought the group would be difficult but I made it as first place. That makes me all the happier.

Why did you expect the group to be difficult?

There were two Protosses which worried me and I didn’t have too much time to prepare. After GSTL ended, I only had two days or so. So I couldn’t guarantee that I would make it to the round of 16.

In the second match, you easily took down IMSeed

The opponent played as I expected him to. I’ve studied Seed a lot. Rather than on practice, I spent more time analysing the opponent’s style and came up with strategies.

In Up and Down, you didn’t get the concussive shell upgrade

I didn’t know till the end (chuckle). I kept losing in engagements I expected to win. Before, I always wondered why this happened to some players but now I understand how they felt.

You made some mistakes but overall you seemed very strong

To be honest, I lost too much in practice and was worried. But once I got to the studio, I felt great. That’s why I did well today.

After WCG, you haven’t posted any notable results.

I don’t know the reason. My games don’t turn out well. But lately, they are starting to get better so I think I’ll be able to post some great results soon.

Round of 8 in Code S is the best you’ve done.

Getting past the ro8 into ro4 is my goal. It’s really about time I posted some results. This is my seventh time in Code S so I’m a bit ashamed that my results haven’t been so good.

Lately, Protoss is on the rise. How are you coping?

It’s really hard. Today was very fortunate. The opponents played as I expected but in practice, it was really so difficult. Still, I learn a lot from my defeats in practice. Still it is hard.

Anyone you want to face in ro16?

Anyone will do. As long as it’s not teamkill (chuckle)

oGs is out of the GSTL and the trip to Las Vegas is out of your grasp. Did that affect the team?

I thought it would but my team shrugged it off rather quickly. We just had a lot of fun over the weekend. We’re the sort of people to move on.

Anything to add?

It feels great to be the first person to advance to the round of 16 in Code S. I want to see oGs and TL players follow me to ro16. GSTL is regrettable but next time, we will do even better and win the whole thing. I want to thank my teammates who helped with practice and in particular, a newcomer oGsLure.

You made it to the round of 16 as second place

Last season when I practised, my winrate was good but the games themselves weren’t great. But this time, both the winrate and quality of games were great. I think I stand a better chance of winning the whole thing this time.

Any pressure having to play first?

Despite the score being 2:1, I had an easy time. I was happy to play first. There was no pressure.

You lost to a comeback in the winner’s match. Did you regret that?

I couldn’t defend in Set 2 because I was supply blocked once. I think it went downhill from there.

I can’t help but bring up the third set in the final match. You did not get the thermal lance upgrade.

As I began to fight, half of my force was already gone. I honestly thought I would get pushed back. I played thinking that I had lost but somehow won. I only found about the upgrade after the match. That’s when I realised why I did so badly. Now that I think back, the colossi and the stalkers stood alongside each other when they fought. But I didn’t notice at all during the game.

I’d like to talk to you about the last finals. Didn’t DRG tease you a lot?

I over-prepared. In a macro-based match, I think I would win (chuckle). DRG felt sorry about beating me but I didn’t care. I was happy to play in front of so many people.

You provoked each other (T/N: ceremonies, interviews etc) after the finals. Is that still going on?

Lately, not at all. On the contrary, DRG tells me “you’re pretty good”. I think he’s teasing me just because he won.

Now you’re in ro16, you can choose your opponent.

I want to choose Supernova. That is my current plan. I want to get my revenge.

There’s a chance you will go to Las Vegas. What do you think?

Because my teammates are so good, I think we’ll definitely make it. It’s the GSTL finals and in America so everyone really wants to go.

Your performance in the GSTL is weaker compared to DRG (chuckle)

DRG is way too good. And this season, everyone else is good too. I did alright last season but now DRG jus eclipses me. I want to outperform him someday in GSTL. (

Anything to add?

I want my teammates to practise so we make it to Las Vegas. I will practise hard also. Frankly, I don’t really care if we get there or not but my teammates seriously want to (chuckle)
