Bans will be handed out.
Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either. |

Doesn't bother me if other people get to watch. I'm getting what I paid for either way.

gah i wrote a long post and the other topic got closed. Guess i'll post it here
IPL4 production value was the amazing one imo.
I didn't pay for MLG Arena but from the few games i had an eye over on restreams and the few posts i read in this thread from paying customers i see they are praising MLG's production value. I think those viewers are trying too hard to prove their money were well spent and choose the wrong arguments. When MLG had 5k $ for first prize they were still the best tournament to watch for me because they had a huge ass crowd and they just hyped everything so much. Now they put 2 players to 2 desks face to face and ... that's it. They make a simple webpage that can embed 4 streams at once and ppl say OMG amazing. I have close to 0 php/html experience and i made a site to embed up to 4 streams with full custom size and a comun chat channel on the same page 2 years ago. That thing takes 20 minutes to do by a good designer, if they want to make it extra flashy maybe a couple hours. So MLG doesn't have their #1 ace for this event (huge vocal crowd) but FINALLY they do some simple modifications to offer action around the clock instead the usual highly anoying delays between games and ppl say that's worth $20.
The thing MLG bet on and it was a pretty safe bet was the quality of the games themselfs. Regardless of anything else, when you get that lineup to play a tournament there WILL BE epic games. It doesn't matter if Sundance made the players play while sitting on the toilet or brought a group of cheerleaders to do striptease next to them while they played. If the games are entertaining the entire event it's a success, if the games suck despite any efforts Sundance might have put into it .. the tournament will be a failure.
So if you think the tournament gave you good entertaining then you have to thanks #1 - #9 to players and #10 to Sundance for gathering the players and not f-ing up anything on his production.
If the entire event "It's worth" $20 depends from person to person. For me not even $5 because i usually keep GSL/streams minimised while i do other stuff and just alt-tab when i hear interesting sounds. For others might be worth even $100. However from what i understood, the Arena wouldn't exist if it wasn't PPV so i'm not as raged as i was at first when i heard "MLG is PPV now". If you have the money and want to support it .. go ahead.
|
all i care is the game itself, not any other fillers between matches. so i really don't like it to be PPV. you only need an acceptable level of production value (no lag, good quality stream), and it becomes a non factor to me. MLG was great last year, and i don't think there was any thing needed to be changed.
i think we should boycott MLG so they can go back to their old business model.

Not really, at least personally, I do feel kind of screwed, I had nothing but lag yesterday, late VODs, some lag today and yet some people are watching free on official stream. MLG isn't charity, and I think a lot of people need to be aware of that.

I don't know if it works with other browsers, apparently most Chrome users are getting it free.

Watching on firefox right now. It's free.

so I just went to the MLG page DjWheat linked on his twitter, and I'm watching the stream now for free, on firefox with no cloaking/blocking addons. Did Wheat give out some secret link? Or is the stream free now? I feel bad now because I didn't pay for it and still got to watch Naniwa vs NesTea, but it's not my fault, MLG needs to fix their shit.

You're welcome! :D
It's not like it would be impossible to watch free whether MLG had fucked up or not; there were restream links posted on Reddit all day.

1 - I don't really care where is the lag coming from, MLG chose Twitch.tv as their partner for streaming, if they can't guarantee lag free stream they shouldn't really sell 20$ passes in that location. 2 - in the morning yes, but VODs were several hours late, I wanted to check matches I missed or didn't see much of due to lag and I couldn't. And yes there were missing matches from yesterday, MLG has said it themselves. 3 - free stream failure is a big deal, if someone can just tune in to free stream that's REALLY bad for people who paid for it. I don't give a shit about restreams, that's basically piracy. But if it's totally possible to just watch same thing on the official stream that's just bad. 4 - thing is, I don't really care whether MLG makes it this year, I paid for their product not to help them out or help esports. Am I really such a bad person for this?
EDIT: I don't really blame people watching for free, I blame MLG/Twitch for not testing this stuff properly.

Been watching for free for hours ><, I feel bad for the people who paid, feels dirty......but cant stop.

I doubt they'll give a refund. It's not like people didn't get what they paid money for, it's just that other people got it for free.
