Erm I don't know how long it has been going on, but the first hour of each day was supposed to be free. Also, even if this is a mistake, MLG doesn't really lose on it. I don't believe anyone thought they were gonna be able to watch this tournament for free without going to a barcraft, so if some get free access now it will only increase the chance of them paying for the next one if they like what they see. Of course, it sucks for the people who bought the pass but....

Personally I didn't invest into MLG because I am a casual player and watcher. I don't have time to get my $20 worth out of it. Today for example I was able to watch the several rounds of the asus ROG. I of course had other things to do in between games and missed some parts of them but overall, ads and all, it was an enjoyable experience with top level games. I just don't have time to watch 3 days worth on content and don't feel like the cost is worth the time. To clarify I have a full time job, a house and a pregnant wife. If I get to game and or watch streams for several hours a week I feel lucky. I really think people are underestimating the amount of casuals there are that would love to support MLG but just can't justify it. By switching to a ppv model they have just cut off a large group of people. I can see this trickling down to live attendance as well. Good luck MLG, I'll be following results.

First of all, this is wildly unpopular with fans in a sport where fan dedication is what keeps the sport alive (compare/contrast MLG and NASL). Second, it is poorly implemented, with workarounds being discovered immediately during the very first broadcast. Some of these workarounds are likely fixable, while others are not (restreams), showing that this model is likely not sustainable. On a subjective note, as a MLG gold member, I am highly disappointed that, having already paid money to MLG, I still can't watch their stuff. $20 for 20 hours of programming is seriously overpriced for this level of production (I love it, but this isn't Jurassic Park here), especially considering that there is STILL ad support. Also, the lack of a live audience completely dampens the excitement for me as a viewer. I love MLG and wish them good fortune, but I will not be renewing my MLG membership (I'm not sure what good it is anymore) and can't justify spending so much on one weekend of SC2.

I hope that MLG proves me wrong and it thrives because it's good for esports and tournaments to have a solid income. I however don't think it's the right time. I would think that any tournament would try to get as many viewers as possible to increase ad revenue. By being able to show past viewer numbers to companies you can ask for more money for ads. Or you can put the entire burden on the community because you feel that viewers are maxed out at this point. In effect they are cutting off casual viewers and hoping that diehards will support the scene. We'll have to wait to see how it pans out. They at least should have given Gold Membership buyers a decent discount or access to this weekends games. It just seems like a kick in the gut and makes me want to pay less for anything they provide because it may not be what it seems.
