Criticism is allowed. Undue flaming is not. Take a second to think your post through before you submit.

Bans will be handed out.

Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either.

Anyone get the feeling that esports is soon to be sponsored by the players?

Would rather pay per series of games. I really don't want to pay $20 to watch every game, when all i want to watch are the semis and finals and maybe some random games of players i like. If they already have this, neat, if not then i will probably just wait until someone uploads them to Youtube or something.
(Would have to be Live streams of the games of course)
You secure that shit Hudson.

wow, people are so fkin blind, they fly players in to their event. GOOD players, worth watching, for 20 bucks, they have a price pool on 26(?)k and they are paying ALL the expenses for the players who get there, and people wont chip in 20 bucks? I'll pay, really, I will. This is great for the teams and the players, stop being so egocentric. Some people cant pay, some can. Fine, but dont be sooo frickin mad over this.

Can this argument for once and all be put to rest? Almost nobody uses rabbit ears anymore, which means that you are paying for your TV. I imagine this has to be coming from people who's parents pay for their TV, because its incomprehensible to think that anything on TV is free when the cable bill comes every month.

Paying for cable would be comparable to paying for your internet connection. Whereas paying to watch a channel would be comparable to ppv

TV can be supported by ad revenue. Esports can't. Simple.

I have posted it a few times now though. Instead of tournaments broadcasting scattered all over the place, they should join forces in an Esports 'TV channel'.

Youtakenocandle, happy birthday dude :-)

This thread is huge, I've read quite a big chunk but the thing i'm still wondering is there going to be a free low quality stream?

Doesn't make economic sense to me.

It's like saying it doesnt make sense to pay 250.000$ for a sports car that can only have 2 people in it and uses up gas like water through a sewerline.

It might be more about not running events every week, striving to put up a high quality event with absolutely the best korean and non korean players. It could be that they use price as an instrument to create exclusivity and stand out from the rest. It is a bit of a shot in the dark, but hey if these arena turn out to be great, all the love for them and their pricing. Keep in mind that if these events are brought up to a new level, we will also benefit from it.

ummm.... there is nothing preventing esports from being supported by ad revenue. they just need to be smarter about how they implement it. dreaming that people will take off their ad blocker and do it through streams is foolish. forcing people to watch it (ala the so called sponsor commercials that couldnt be ad blocked) works.

There were some pretty epic moments last year. And notice, it's player driven:

With material like this in hand, you really have to wonder who MLG employes handling marketing and PR. Instead of talking about the many streams or the dire straits of the esport economy, why not remind people how engaging watching MLG can be? How much fun it was! (well, I'm not thinking crowd-shots here..)

What a complete clusterfuck this last week has been.

Lol who is gonna charge you if you put a satelite dish and some antenna in your back yard to pick up the signal?
Lots of tv is 100% free.

Now that the tournament is nearing this ppv thing is pissing me of more and more.
Mlg is realy an awesome tournament to watch and the idea of having to miss this does not make me happy at all.
Maybe sundance can give us an oversight of the complete budget including all costs and expenses and all revenus.
Then we can see that our monney is realy well spend and that this is realy needed, and i will be more then happy to sugest several cuts, as well as ways to increase revenu ^^
(why this has no live audience??? i love live audience with tournaments, it ads so much)

Was wondering if the other games on mlg arena are also ppv or if its only sc that they are trying to monetise.
My guess is that the tournament can live on its own and make a small profit without ppv.
They make the tournament alot more epensive by doing things that thoose who ultimately have to pay for it (we the vieuwers now) never asked for and probably dont even want.
They charge not because they have to, but because they feel they can.

meh i gonna miss watching it it is an awesome tournament.

You guys are totally right, they would sell double the amount of lamborghini's if they were half off. Prices are what they are, if you cant afford them you cant have them. No one is entitled to free stuff. this is a special qualifier and the championship in columbus is still free so I dont know why there are so many complaints.

You will have to excuse me though I have a very angry thread post to make on Intels website because I cant afford there Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition and I think they should just give it to me.

Comparing luxury cars to streams.
Comparing high end CPUs to streams.
Earlier you said that we shouldn't compare GSL and MLG, as GSL had less content which i proved was bs.

Maybe you should spend a minute or two to think about what you've written before you click that Post-button.

It's difficult to say whether it can be supported by ad revenue or not since we don't have any numbers. It's all just a guessing game and for all we know events can run a lot more efficient than they do now and run a profit on ads
