Criticism is allowed. Undue flaming is not. Take a second to think your post through before you submit.

Bans will be handed out.

Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either.

$20 in itself isn't terrible unless you compare it to the cost of other SC2 events out there. Most provide free LQ streams, and GSL provides a ton of content for $20, which offers the best of the best duking it out for over a month.

I have greatly enjoyed MLG in the past... so I'll probably buy a ticket provided the player list is awesome. There better be no huge down-times between games now though. Not for $20.

I don't mind waiting a week to watch if i can't afford the pass, seems a little too much for me. I'm just wondering about the replays, will we have replays on time this time around? Again I don't mind the replays being released a week later but when they're released months afterwards they lose all strategic value by then...

Yeah the price pool may not be 100k but they are paying full travel fees for 32 PLAYERS please think before you speak. You could just as well think of it as prize and then the prize pool is 125k....
MLG has the best players in the world right now. NesTea,MVP,HuK,MC,PartinG,MarineKing,NaNiwa,Leenock,Oz...... You rarely see such stacked tournament.
If we want Esports to grow this is necessary.

So making students who are the major viewers of those events and who can't afford much money not being able to watch some streams is necessary for esports to grow ? Isn't that quite the opposite ?
You'll wish I'd never stooped to notice you.

In Montreal please

Pay my airfare and I'll be there ez pz!

For $750 you get:
- Access to all the best Chill jokes
- The best drinking buddy
- All the "Chill get out" jokes you can handle

That's just the same cost as an all-inclusive 3* to Mexico, bottle service for 3 at Trist in Las Vegas, an average 1-hour night at the Spearmint Rhino back room.

Don't hesitate, book today!

SICKEST deal right here, screw the barcraft can I just fly you out to watch MLG in my room with me?

Wow, what a terrible TERRIBLE decision. Sundance seemed to me like a guy with some common sense, can't believe he would approve of this.

Do these guys realize that a ticket for GSL, the premium and best SC2 tournament since the end of 2010, an almost TWO MONTH tournament, costs 15$? Please take a moment and read that sentence again.

GSL, 2 months - 15$.
MLG Winter Arena (not even the main MLG event), 3 days - 20$.

Do MLG even realize that there are other tournaments people can choose from? You're not the only ones!!! People that cannot afford to purchase tickets for all the tournaments will have to make a choice, and you can bet your ass MLG will not be the top choice with 20$ for 3 days.

Also, good job trying to promote SC2 to new players/fans by not providing a free stream for the event, even in low quality.

TLDR: Disappointment

Yeah... Also the production and the games are better for GSL... I just don't understand. But I hope assembly is good at least.

I'm a poor grad student but I'll try to get together with friends and split the tab. Don't mind paying personally, MLG has recently delivered the absolute highest quality good, I'm willing to pay for that definitely. Sad to see so many people are unwilling to pay at all. If you split with even one other friend this is eminently reasonable.

also id like to point out the fact that most of us are in our late teens or in college. we have little disposable income. did they not study their major demographic?

yes, we want to grow esports and make the people delivering it rich as hell. but this is too fast and ill designed to harness the audience into $$$. if the cost was much lower then it would be MUCH better. oh and you NEED a free stream, you can lose so many potential members if you do not have a dedicated free stream going on all the time.

If only MLG had waited until things got hella big. then they wouldnt need us to pay. since so many of us freaking watch, the sponsors will roll in. now...the viewers are gonna drop and sponsors are going to see esports as a fluke.

I think they put the prices a little bit too high for this, will deter a LOT of potential customers.. I would've gladly forked up 10 bucks for a weekend of entertainment.

lol you people saying $20 dollars is too much. It's such a good deal - just how poor are you?
you've all been spoiled by free, unsustainable, low standard content, says I

That's not the point.

For MLG to charge $20 for 2 days for an event, you have to weigh that price against other things that we have. You don't just ignore the competitive prices of other events when you go to pay for something. You don't go to the grocery store and buy something for more money when you can get something the same or better for less.

GSL charges less and has higher production and still offers a free alternative. Assembly will have free HD streams going on at the same time as this MLG event. We've had previous MLG, Dreamhack, GSL, etc all for free and to be honest it's been MLG that's been more known for 'technical difficulties and crappy formats' than any of the others yet they are the ones going first for the PPV model?

My first thought was comparing MLG to GSL. GSL you get a few months of content for $5 less and GSL has a higher prize pool, why is it then that GSL gives more money to the players and charges less? MLG is doing something wrong, I know they are paying travel and what not but they also seem to have more sponsors than GSL and they run ads, which GSL doesn't.

All in all, I feel like they are being extremely greedy and if someone can't/doesn't want to pay $20 for MLG you shouldn't call THEM greedy or poor because it's MLG who's begging for money.

This would make Barcrafts illegal. Cannot publicly display a subscribed service without a special license. UFC being played at a bar have to get a special subscription and license.

Considering the news suggests watching at a Barcraft, I doubt that.

It's a dangerous precedent, which is easy for MLG to flip on. GomTV was for Barcrafts at the start, not so any more. Numerous people, including my local barcraft, got a email where they asked not to continue to show matches from one account.

Or do the freed vods one week later do the trick?

This need to get more attention.

It seems it's against Blizzard policy to use their games if you don't give a free way to watch it.

GSL have already done PPV-only events.

Oh yeah, i forgot the All star thingy or whatever that was.
It was already PPV.
GSL is almost already PPV anyway, because you know.. free stream is 240p soo.. lol

Everyone needs to go and read kennigit's last couple of tweets. He pretty much sums up what I'm thinking perfectly. Relying only on advertising for income is not a solid business model and MLG is moving toward a much more sustainable model that, if successful, can then produce even more quality content.

It is the majority of SC2 viewers aren't people swimming in money imo.

Also why would I watch MLG's "best" players in the world for money when I can just watch GSL for free?

Odd hours sure but the lineup is superior to MLG anyday

Kind of annoying to be a paying customer and still need to pay for this event, at least give a discounted rate for gold members.

20 bucks for a 3 day event isn't much money, but relative to other SC2 paid content it is. MLG had better deliver a damn good product.

I love you Asha' and understand your stance...

But with that said, Fuck you. If Sundance hasn't proven that he has a vision for e-sports yet, that he listens to the fans with their every complaint --well... aside from Extended series-- then I could appreciate this reaction.

But... Sundance has proven that he cares. And he has said before that if e-sports is to be successful as a business it can't keep leaking money with advertisements being the only stopper.

Personally I'm fine with this. I would NOT have been fine with this if this was a year ago. Dallas was a terrible, TERRIBLE thing. But with the quality that MLG (and other tournaments) provide, I am more than willing to pay for it. 2011 was a test run for SC2 as a serious international e-sport and it widely surpassed pretty much everyone's expectations. It's time to pay the piper now and I'm sorry to those that don't understand that. I'll be enjoying watching this fantastic event without you guys I guess.
