Criticism is allowed. Undue flaming is not. Take a second to think your post through before you submit.

Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either.

As for the Asus vs MLG argument, MLG's player list is farrrrrrrrrr more exciting than Asus's, in my opinion.

I've got to draw the line somewhere, it's only Feb and I've paid for:

- A year pass for GSL.
- A year pass for the GSTL.
- A year pass for ESL.

I'm already up at $240 for 2012. Pity, because I was wanting to watch MLG.

Hopefully they do an NASL and slash the price to practically nothing on the final day, I might catch the round8/4 onwards then.

20 bucks seems overpriced for a 3 day event to me, especially if assembly runs at the same time. I would be totally fine with something like 10 bucks.

Damn was really looking forward to this MLG. I can't fork out 20 bucks, especially when assembly is the same weekend.

Not only is $20 a huge amount, but the fact that Gold Members (I still find that name hilarious btw) don't get in on it is insane. Not cool, the euro event on that weekend it is, I'll check out the vods a week later.

If i had the money to spare, youd have it mlg. Though pricey, i agree with this step. Hope people don't completely turn it down.

Still gonna be a freaking awesome tourney regardless and if i have to wait a week so be it =).

i understand why MLG is doing this, they need a sustainable business model, last year in 2011 i was a premium Gold member of MLG, while i wasnt really happy with what i felt was a waste of money for gold, my friends thought it was awesome and enjoyed it. I really do love mlg its awesome but i find myself wanting to spend less money promoting MLG... sorry guys.

Bit harsh. GSL is arguably of at least equal quality and is much cheaper (a whole month of content for less). I agree that monetizing events through PPV can be a way of finally making eSports lucrative but it should be in relation to the competition.

Well it sounds like it's going to be a lot of content and just think of all the crap that people regularly spend $20 dollars on. I think a long history of mediocre free content has turned many people into penny pinchers when it comes to esports. Hopefully the content MLG produces this year will truly raise standards and people will see that content can be produced that is worth this amount of money. But I've been disappointed before. Maybe it will be the same kind of thing we've always seen and not be worth the money at all. Who knows.

for 170$ you get to stream every NBA game in the entire season with commentary at the highest quality on the web. You also get the VODs. In a normal NBA season there are 1230 games that each last a few hours. If i counted correctly, there are 62 x Bo3 in the winter arena. I think its fair if not charitable to MLG to equate one Bo3 to one basketball game.

That brings us to 62 matches for 20$ vs 1230 matches for 170$.

thoughts?

Are you really comparing NBA to Starcraft2 ??? we are so not there yet.. NBA has all the major sponsors possible . If it didnt you would have to pay 2000.. to cover their expenses...

Thing is, 20$ is ALOT by e-sports standards for a 3 day event. Even GSL is cheaper and has waaay more content. You have to set your prices to match your market, which MLG isn't. Especially with another big event going on at the same time. This is borderline stupid to be honest. It does not matter that UFC or some other well established sport is 5 times more expensive, this is irrelevant for e-sports. The e-sports scene is not there yet and they will likely loose alot in ad revenue, much more than they will add with this new cash flow.

1 Basketball match to 1 Bo3?

Pretty generous but like I said the idea that MLG would even try this outrages me pretty hard.

So I guess Blizzard's official "video policy" doesn't pertain to MLG?

I could be way off...can anyone explain this to me?
Or do the freed vods one week later do the trick?

This need to get more attention.

It seems it's against Blizzard policy to use their games if you don't give a free way to watch it.

GSL have already done PPV-only events.

I'm not paying 20 dollars for this when I already:

1) Have a gold subscription for a subpar HD feed that barely lets me read the mineral count at the top right and they now want me to pay more

2) Want to support the GSL

3) Already have the option to watch Assembly for free

Really poorly done by MLG.

20 Dollars?! Umm.. Nope.

I'm already a bloody gold member, now you want more money? Which I would understand if it was at least half that. Too much.
