Criticism is allowed. Undue flaming is not. Take a second to think your post through before you submit.

Bans will be handed out.

Should go without saying, but don't link restreams here either.

It's too much money, I would normally never watch Assembly over an MLG but I'll have to make an exception this time.

MLG has my 20 bucks and anyone that thinks that 20 dollars USD is outrageous then you are spoiled because what you are getting is worth way the hell more than what you are paying for it.

Thank you for entertaining us with your developed-countries douchery. Everybody can't afford it; I can, you can. People in Mexico, Brazil, Russia etc can't always.

Next time you could spare us your poorly thought patronizing.

Could not have said it better myself, the argument that you are spolied if you can't afford 20 bucks is just retarded.

If you do not have enough money to watcht eh premium service, you can still watch the free stream.
If 20$ is a lot of money to you, a SC2 tournament might be not the thing you are most worried about.

Considering there flying out 32 players and putting them up in hotels this doesn't seem to bad. We're just use to having everything for free but the more this grows the more stuff like this will happen. When you compare it to something like UFC people pay $50 for a couple hours of fights, with this your getting 3 days of something you enjoy for $20. Grow up and support what you enjoy.

While it sucks, there are some points...

Its new content. If you don't want to pay, you aren't closing out on anything that wasn't available to you last year. It will also show them how dedicated people might be. Granted, it still probably wasn't the best time for it, and they could have told everyone when they first announced it. Ill probably just watch assembly.

For the people who are "omg 20 bukks are you poor lul thats nothing", you have to consider that most SC fans are young, and probably don't have loads of money to spend. Obviously you can say that "well the game costs 60$ and look at how much your computer costs", but that's not the same, you can't compare them. I'm 15 and there is no way that i would pay 20$ just to watch ONE event, maybe for a month of GSL i'd pay.

Out of intrest, how much does PPV cost for the viewers of boxing/MMA or whatever else?

Also, someone should make a poll to see how many people are going to pay for this and how many are not.

I've edited my post on the first page with a poll.

$20 for over 20 hours of awesomeness? Why the fuck is everyone complaining? Thats nothing. You guys cant spare 20 bucks? Thats like a dollar an hour, 50c per game (on average). Im a poor student and even I can afford this, just don't go out on the wkend or something, its not hard to budget $20.

For SC2, and esports in general, to become big, it needs to be monetized. And you guys cant spare 20 bucks to watch the best SC2 players in the world go at? Are you kidding me? This is a small fee for alot of content, high-end production, where we'll probably see some of the most epic games in SC2 to date

Assembly is for free. And on at the same time. And FREE VODs will be uploaded a week after. I'm sorry if I'm a frugal person who likes to save my money for rent, bills, and emergencies.
Also, GSL is $15. For an entire freaking season. How many games is that? And how long/how many games will MLG last for $20?
So not worth it.

20$ for one weekend in to much, 20$ for all the Arenas I would be fine with..
The Circuit is not included and that also costs money to be able to see it in HD and the extra streams.

This will only hurt the SC2 Esport...

I'd rather buy a ticket for a GSL season than this. GL though.

Or do the freed vods one week later do the trick?

This need to get more attention.

It seems it's against Blizzard policy to use their games if you don't give a free way to watch it.

lol you people saying $20 dollars is too much. It's such a good deal - just how poor are you?
you've all been spoiled by free, unsustainable, low standard content, says I

for 170$ you get to stream every NBA game in the entire season with commentary at the highest quality on the web. You also get the VODs. In a normal NBA season there are 1230 games that each last a few hours. If i counted correctly, there are 62 x Bo3 in the winter arena. I think its fair if not charitable to MLG to equate one Bo3 to one basketball game.

That brings us to 62 matches for 20$ vs 1230 matches for 170$.

thoughts?

I'll be interested to see how long it takes for MLG to consider charging Bar Craft's $750+ for a PPV license...and interested to see what Blizzard will have to say about it - if it happens.

MLG is so greedy it's not even funny. They're charging 20$ for a 3day stream with ads while us gold-members aren't covered at all. Yet they have such a low price pool compared to a tournament like Dreamhack where you get HD stream for FREE while sitting thru 1 telia ad with calm music in it between each game. I'd rather donate 20$ to DreamHack and watch Assembly than pay MLG 20$ and watch both. Sundance is only in it for the money.

Yeah the price pool may not be 100k but they are paying full travel fees for 32 PLAYERS please think before you speak. You could just as well think of it as prize and then the prize pool is 125k....
MLG has the best players in the world right now. NesTea,MVP,HuK,MC,PartinG,MarineKing,NaNiwa,Leenock,Oz...... You rarely see such stacked tournament.
If we want Esports to grow this is necessary.

I doubt Blizzard's generic website rules apply to MLG. They almost certainly have their own licensing arrangement.

I get a month of GOM for that price which I have paid for since open season 1. $20 is to much for a single weekend which I probably wont be able to watch completely.

Well.. 20 bucks for like 2-3 MLG's and I would have paid. If this model will be for all future MLG's (stands to reason if they get a decent viewership this weekend) I will not.

Call it spoiled or whatever but I am simply not gonna throw around my money for this. I really enjoy MLG but there are plenty of other tournaments I care just as much or more about.

Now 20 bucks for removal of extended series and we might have a deal

20 dollars for a 3 days? that crosses the line for me, I'm sorry that I'm a student and keep it up with that amound of money.
I was thinking about if I should buy tickets for GSL seasons which last 1 month and now even 2 for 15 dollars but I'm not going to pay 20 dollar for 3 days sorry.
I really loved last year MLGs, me and my friends where even doing homecrafting for stright 3 days(+studies lol? :x) and I really don't like where MLG is heading, If it's really hard to gather a 26,000$ for prize money don't rip of the watchers for, it's not the watchers who get the money + all the cuts MLG did during the winter I really don't like it.
Too bad.

Bold move. Understandable, but overpriced given past MLG production quality as measure. Ten maybe, but 20 makes you think a lot harder. I really never was an early adopter so, I'm just going to pass on the first run. There is faith they can live up to the expectations at a later point- which is why I bought a gold membership after they sorted out their initial issues with the early Pro Circuits. But for now, I shall wait and see. GL HF!
