Q: It's been a long time since you made it to the round of 8. How does it feel?
A: I kept thinking, why is the round of 8 so hard! (laughs) When I was playing really well, I could make it to the round of 4 so easily. But all of a sudden, the round of 8 became really hard to me. I never expected to qualify for the next round so easily.

Q: Your strategies were really successful today.
A: I practised and thought of many builds. I prepared a lot for the first match, but when the game started, I started playing in a more spontaneous and improvisational manner.

Q: We are entering a period where Protoss seems to be very strong. Is this the reason for your return to the round of 8?
A: To be honest, the way I play is different from the typical style of play nowadays. However, it has to be said that after the patch, it has become much better to play as Protoss. But it's really not that bad. In the past, the upgrades for both attack and defense tended to go really slowly, but it's different now. I think Protosses should be very happy on this point.

Q: This current season seems to be the best chance for Protoss. As President of Protoss, what are your thoughts?
A: For PvT, the map order is really important, but for PvZ, it is true that Protoss has an advantage in that matchup. I will have to look out for tomorrow's group D matches to know who my next opponent will be. However, if a Zerg qualifies in second place for that group, I am confident of winning 3-0.

Q: So you're saying you wish that either Nestea or DongRaeGu will qualify in second place?
A: Technically, it doesn't matter who the Zerg is. I think the most difficult player for me in Group D is MarineKing (laughs).

Q: Recently, we heard the news that oGsNada chose not to renew his contract.
A: I think that players choosing to leave teams or choosing not to renew their contracts is a reflection of the player's personal thoughts and desire for new challenges. Even though I am living alone now, I can practise with the players that I knew before on the ladder, so life in SK-Gaming is not all too difficult for now.

Q: You currently do things alone in SK-Gaming. Don't you miss your ex-team mates?
A: I thought about all these before I left the team. I feel that sometimes, being alone can be better than being with a lot of people. Not playing in GSTL can also be beneficial for me. I think that if I am not involved in GSTL, I can use the time to attend a few foreign tournaments. I am prepared to spend about one year alone playing the game. However, it might be really lonely if I were to make it to the finals.

Q: It's been nearly a year since your last championship win. Are you confident for this season?
A: It's not just my last championship win that's almost a year. I've also been with my girlfriend for nearly a year. I hope to win this championship as an anniversary gift for us.

Q: If you make it to the finals, who do you hope your opponent will be?
A: MMA. I think that will make it the most epic GSL finals ever. But it seems like I might meet him in the round of 4. If we were to meet in the round of 4, I guess we could say that is like the finals being brought forward. If that were the case, I hope to play anyone from group D, except Genius.

Q: Any last things you want to say?
A: It feels really great winning today. Somehow, I ended the games really quickly. Hopefully, people can take that as an attractive point of mine. If I have the chance in the future, I will play into the late game. I want to thank all the people who are involved in esports. Next week, I will be appearing on GomTV's Off The Record. Hopefully, it will be interesting. I am now in the round of 8. Hopefully, everyone can continue supporting me. I also want to thank my parents and girlfriend for their continuous support. Finally, I want to thank all the players who helped me practise, MVP_Dream, FnaticMSI_aLive, oGs_TheStC, oGs_Vines, oGs_InCa, oGs_Galikgun.

Q: You seem unstoppable now. How does it feel advancing into the round of 8?
A: There's nothing much to say. I am just happy. It would have been better though, if I were able to clinch first place in the group. Before this, I've never lost, and it's a bit sad to experience defeat for the first time today.

Q: Did you go into today thinking that you'd qualify in first place?
A: Because my first opponent was a Terran, I was quite confident in that match. Even though I must admit too, that my opponent was a really strong Terran, I was confident because the strategies I had prepared for today were really good. MC is really strong too, but I think I still stand a chance in a mirror matchup.

Q: But you lost to MC in the winner's match.
A: In the first game, I had faced the same situation during practice, so I thought I was able to win, except that MC's followup was really strong. For the first game, there was even a point where I thought I already had the game, and was already thinking of qualifying in first place. But I was unable to protect my second base. Even though my opponent had really good control, I think it was mainly due to my mistakes.

Q: You defeated Jjakji, the winner of last season, twice to qualify for the next round.
A: To be honest, I am very confident playing against Terran. My biggest wish this season was to meet as many Terrans as possible. But if that really happened, people will probably thinking that I am all about PvT, so that's not really my wish anymore. I hope to let everyone see my PvZ in the round of 8. I want to play against DongRaeGu. I really hope to let everyone see all my matchups, to let everyone know that I am the Number 1 Protoss.

Q: You haven't played a single PvZ this season. This could work for you, or against you.
A: Recently, I've always been kind of uncomfortable when I have to face a Protoss or a Terran, but as long as I had prepared well, I would be confident of winning. I am most confident in my PvZ, even if my opponent in the round of 8 is the mighty DongRaeGu, Nestea hyung is really strong too, but even if I had to face him, I am confident of winning. I think that facing Nestea would be a better chance for me to prove myself, but the opponent I most want to face in the round of 8 is still Genius (laughs).

Q: Up to now, all the players who have tried to walk the Royal Road have been defeated at the round of 8.
A: To be honest, I feel that as long as I can make it past the round of 8, there are no other competitors that can defeat me. If I make it past the round of 8, I can already look forward to winning the championship. I hope to face MC once more in the finals.

Q: If you made it to the finals, who do you hope your opponent will be?
A: I lost to MC today, and so, I hope to face him again in the finals so as to establish myself as the Number 1 Protoss. If that's not possible, I think facing against MMA is not bad too.

Q: Recently, many people involved in esports, as well as those watching esports, all have a lot of expectations on you.
A: Many fans might dislike me because of my ceremonies, but I think it's better to be disliked than to be overlooked. I just hope people will think on the positive side. Recently, the expectations of my team mates and my friends around me are indeed very high. I also get the feeling that more people are giving me attention.

Q: Any last things you want to say?
A: I want to thank the players who practised with me. From StarTale, Hack, Sound, Bomber, Ace, Squirtle, Tiger. Thank you. From FXO, asd hyung, Gumiho hyung, Tree. Thank you for cheering for me. From the new team Rising Star, Mentalist, soulman. From IM, Yoda. From oGs, TheStC, Supernova. I am sorry I can't list everyone, and I want to apologise to them.

I'm curious what MC thinks the patch change will be. TT1 mentioned something similar on his stream.

In any case, glad to see two protoss advance.

Not sure but i think there is a typo in MC's interview
"For PvT, the map order is really important, but for PvT, it is true that Protoss has an advantage in that matchup"
Shouldn't the second PvT be PvZ since it sounds like he talks about something different. He also talks about zergs right after this.
Might be completely wrong tough.

Oops typo haha. Meant to be PvZ for the second one. Thanks for pointing out.

Well, 5 Protoss in RO16 is pretty rare. And the quality of their games in the RO32 was pretty convincing.

Think about PvZ a couple of months ago. Zergs just crushed Protoss, P was at like 38% winrate in GSL including Code A.

What changed? Maps. Immortal range. Upgrades costs.

None of those are massive alone, the really P favoured maps are already gone. CBTS is gone, most maps are considered either Zerg favoured or balanced.

PvZ is still a really unexplored matchup, so while I don't see P buffs as necessary (for PvZ), it's not like Zerg are totally screwed right now.

No, it's more like the cumulative effects of several Protoss buffs over several patches finally reaching a tipping point along with metagame changes. If they buff even further, I can't even imagine how it will be...

Wait, what? So winrates were >70% for Zerg, then suddenly when Protoss got this straw that broke the camel's back, the winrate suddenly switched to being P-favoured?

How does that make sense to you?

The change in winrate came from the players and the way of playing, not from any patches.

Although I do think maps had a bit of an impact.

The sad thing about it all is that blizzard had to instigate those changes to change the meta. I agree none of the changes were that major yet protosses still went with it and it had a deep impact.

With MVP in Code A, MMA is now arguably the hottest player in the world right now, and with his relatively weak TvP, MC and PartinG see an opportunity to win big.

Just because MC's two and three base timings crush zergs doesnt mean other aspects of the game are imba the other way. Perhaps blizz doesnt like seeing mass muta or BL infestor work protoss so much? There gonna have to do someting once MS is gone.

Um the matchup is still zerg favored look at the stats. I guess protoss is never supposed to win in your eyes and if they do start approaching even 50% for even a month the whining begins with zergs.

I think the patch came at a time where the Protoss players were actually just learning to play better and safer (see: more than 1 observer). So I think both of those things collided and caused this, and even so, I don't think Protoss are in any way OP. They just learned how to play, now the Terran's and Zerg's need to follow suit.

I'm just happy for the success for Protoss, as they've not been in a GSL final since InCa's failure against NesTea in the early summer.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Um the matchup is still zerg favored look at the stats. I guess protoss is never supposed to win in your eyes and if they do start approaching even 50% for even a month the whining begins with zergs.

Actually in Korea it's currently ~55% for Protoss.

Of course, internationally PvZ is horrific, but that's not the highest level of play. Once mass Muta into BL/Infestor starts getting figured out, international PvZ should get much better.

If you look properly December was 55% for Protoss, January was 55% for Zerg. That things can flip around that much with no big patches going on just shows that it's a very small sample size and that both sides can win the matchup fine. MC has always been super confident against Zerg, it doesn't have much to do with the current state of PvZ.

To be honest, I feel that as long as I can make it past the round of 8, there are no other competitors that can defeat me. If I make it past the round of 8, I can already look forward to winning the championship

After losing 0-2 to MC lol.

I don't think they care about some silly ladder ratings.
The only thing they care about is the GSL (code A and S) and let's be honest, zergs are getting slaughtered this season.

The changes aren't the problem. Those changes simply plugged some really poor design that made Protoss too fragile.

No race should be fragile.

But the issue is that Protoss timing attacks hit too hard with warpin, and their lategame is not contestable, at least for Terran.

In which case you would expect the winrate to change with each patch, as they did not all occur in one patch. Protoss would gradually gain a higher percentage, but they didn't. It just went BOOM from about 37% to >50% all of a sudden. And at the same time, playstyle's changed dramatically.

I don't see this as a coincidence.

Well, he could have meant that he was really good at it. Nestea would state that he would crush pretty much anyone in a ZvZ, but that doesn't make ZvZ imbalanced (obv).

Also, you did misunderstand his post. Nestea, MVP et al have complained about the state of Terran or Zerg when they were in interviews, even when they had phenomenal winrates and Protoss was being wiped clean from GSL. MC doesn't do that.

"Q: This current season seems to be the best chance for Protoss. As President of Protoss, what are your thoughts?
A: For PvT, the map order is really important, but for PvZ, it is true that Protoss has an advantage in that matchup. I will have to look out for tomorrow's group D matches to know who my next opponent will be. However, if a Zerg qualifies in second place for that group, I am confident of winning 3-0."

Well my interpretation of that quote is that he said protoss has an advantage, not that he personally has an advantage. He also doesn't seem to care whether it's Nestea or DRG who he faces, he's just confident that if he plays a zerg he'll win 3-0.

I'm aware of Nestea complaining about zerg even when he was doing well but I dunno about MVP. I only recall him saying there were too many terrans in code S and that he was going to knock the undeserving ones out.

MC is the president toss, the pinnacle of protoss play. Only balance at the very top is relevant to MC, not the results of lesser competition.

all programers say ZVP is hard right now , the ones in the top tier. Stupid people in this thread claiming statistics WHICH ARE BASED ON HISTORY IE. THE PAST does not even make sense. Next month you guys will be claiming zvp is hard when progamers in korea might be stating the opposite.

Protoss just have a TON of very effective early game timing pushes. Put that on top of massive advantage that warpins can be late game, and protoss are finally starting to utilize their full power. Zergs can still win win the matchup just fine. But it requires excellent game sense to know what easly pressure to counter as well as when to take 4 bases and drone up. It's a very interesting matchup right now, IMO.

Royal Road = winning a star league on your first appearance in it. If Parting wins this GSL season, he'll be the first person to pull that off in SC2, since I don't think Fruitdealer really counts since that was EVERYONE'S first GSL.

You got to respect Mc. When toss is doing well, he will honestly tell you other races are not imba unlike some others.

Yeah but when it's doing bad he whines endlessly about it being the worst race.

When. Link? quote it. I remember when KA nerf came he just said "no comment" He has also said "I love every protoss unit"

MC is not one to whine like other pros. He's a boss. Bosses don't whine.

Are you implying NesTea's not a boss?

Getting 0-2'd by MC and he still has that kinda confidence. Pretty bold. I hope he doesn't fade out after people start punishing his greedy builds

The real challenge for all these hyped Protoss players is twofold.

1) Get into Code S/do well in Code A

2) Stay there, and adapt to continue to do well.

So far, the only hyped new Protoss who managed to come close to a Royal Road is Oz. He's currently in Code A, and he has proved himself for the first part, and now it's his chance to prove the second part.

I foresee Parting being similar: making a good splash, but having to prove his staying power.

Um the matchup is still zerg favored look at the stats. I guess protoss is never supposed to win in your eyes and if they do start approaching even 50% for even a month the whining begins with zergs.

Actually in Korea it's currently ~55% for Protoss.

http://imgur.com/a/hQHYS

Of course, internationally PvZ is horrific, but that's not the highest level of play. Once mass Muta into BL/Infestor starts getting figured out, international PvZ should get much better.

If you look properly December was 55% for Protoss, January was 55% for Zerg. That things can flip around that much with no big patches going on just shows that it's a very small sample size and that both sides can win the matchup fine. MC has always been super confident against Zerg, it doesn't have much to do with the current state of PvZ.

Small sample size... yet Protoss are always the first to jump and point to GSL to prove their inferiority or to prove the OPness of Terran.

It feels like MC just did 2 interviews and they put a picture of Parting on top of it

Nice to see that there are other, really confident players out there who are not afraid to show it.

Parting looks really good PvT and decent PvZ (from what i have seen)

But I cannot see him beating any good tosses on the big stage (MC, Puzzle and Genius if he advances)

IF he avoids a PvP series, i wouldn't be all that surprised if he did get to the final and perhaps even won the whole thing. Although, if i was a betting man, i would put my money on mma.

MC's games leave little room for interpretation, but I am going to give it a try anyway.

Two PvT's against Ganzi, both 2 base gateway timing attacks. How did the games turn out so one-sided? MC popularized this timing, so let's assume he's pretty decent at it, but shouldn't the skill cap be pretty low for a rush like this? I'm sure GanZi will have faced this countless times in his practice.

First game, Ganzi sneaks out 9 marines bypassing the stalker. Eventually he loses them but it was an agreeable decision. But being down 9 in army I guess the zealot/stalker army was just too strong. I believe MC had pretty high confidence his timing would work on such few bunkers+ smaller terran army, hence pure zealot/stalker was enough by him.

Second game was slightly more confusing. Ganzi went a more standard 3 rax even with stim ready before the push, AND he scouted the proxy pylon. But he still doesn't hold. I feel like he could have held if there were no sentries to stop him from taking advantage of the stim. More bunkers and scv's I guess?

Guys, you're all missing the point. Didn't you see one of MC's practice partners?

oGs_Galikgun

That just proves that oGs is not short of talent when they have someone that is literally over 9000.

Also Parting's confidence is awesome, we need more arrogant players

I don't think they care about some silly ladder ratings.
The only thing they care about is the GSL (code A and S) and let's be honest, zergs are getting slaughtered this season.

It is in fact not based on ladder but tournaments results

That's what makes him so hilarious though. It's like, if he didn't simultaneously whine one second and act all maturely smug the next second, he would just be ... such a square. D:

Basically, every foreign Protoss player sucks at using forcefield, and it is very difficult for a Terran to know if their build is safe to a 6 gate. MC is still the only Protoss player where I think the forcefields are intelligently placed and well conserved.

Wha? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post but MC pretty much stated flat out that protoss is OP, at least in PvZ.

MC said Toss has an advantage in PvZ, since when does 'having an advantage' = the person flat out thinks the matchup is imbalanced or OP? Don't exaggerate the words please. A matchup could for instance be tilted 52/48, the 52% race has the advantage, but sure as heck doesn't automatically mean that race is OP and the games broken.

Except for the fact no one can two base like MC, not even close like artosis said. It all comes down to perfect game sense and timing which is impossible to duplicate. And it's not like MC doesnt scout like crazy to know exactly when to hit losing tons of probes if need be. The when actual battle occurs none micro even close. Perfect FF, Perfect pulbacks of weak units. It's not like MC A moves but hovers around 300 apm while this is going on.

Yes better scouting, more bunkers, less losing 10 marines for nothing. Basically Ganzi never had a chance considering his TvP vs best protoss.

Lol words cannot explain how stressed i am about this. Seeing how so many people have gotten their hopes high about it *prays hard that i translated that part right*, especially because that was from google translate. I know he is definitely appearing, i just hope the next week part is right.
