'Jack of all trades', caster Park Sang-hyun, to lead casting crew for the GSTL
Sang-hyun in the middle, along with Yoo Dae-hyun on the left, and Lee Seung-won on the right. Both have moved on to OnGameNet.
Debuting in July of 2005 with MBCgame, Sang-hyun has become a recognizable voice of ESPORTS in Korea. He will now be the lead caster for the GSTL starting this Friday along with Ahn Jun-yeong and Park Dae-man.
He is known as the 'jack of all trades', due to his ability to commentate a variety of games. During his time with MBCgame, he has cast games such as Starcraft, Tekken and Special Force.
Korean casters are amazing. They succeed in explaining the game to you, hyping it, and actually make you extremely excited for what's going to happen. And in a game where all the information is handed to you with a better UI, it can be harder, but they manage to give you that feeling of what's going to happen next. I'm excited for this, will try to tune into the Korean stream maybe, since I haven't in the past.

Unless you don't speak korean.
You don't need to speak korean to know what they are saying. You just need to listen to their heart and soul.
Best of luck to Park Sang Hyun as he continues his eSports career. I know that this news won't seem like much for most of the fans here on TL, but the Korean community is really hyped about this. I've emphasized over and over in various threads that commentary can really make or break the viewers' experience. This move will definitely encourage more viewers to check out SC2 in Korea - I've already seen a lot of positive replies on various message boards.

don't even try to compare them two.
What's so wrong about that? Wheat is a great caster, who has casted many different esports, the comparison seems applicable.
He's probably making the claim that DJ Wheat is half the caster that Sang-Hyun is...which in terms of ability to be interesting, I would have to agree with. This is knowing that DJ Wheat is one of the most hard working people in E-sports.

It sure does look like DJWheat :D,both physicalllly and in matters of versatility :D
It may come as a surprise, but I met Park Sang-hyun during a trip to Korea and my handler at the time introduced us as the "counter-part" to one another in Korea/US. So it's not too far off.

Luckily for DJWheat "the ability to be interesting" is subjective and I for one consider him much more interesting The Korean casters do get excited but I like the way we do our thing so yah...
Nice to see the casters coming over. More credibility to Korean BW fans can't hurt.
The most important thing is that the AMAZING MBC casters do still have jobs because they're that fricking awesome. While I won't hear them during the English cast with Tastosis, he'll still be in a job doing something similar to what he loves and that is what is most important

i actually don't like hyunjoo, her role is caster which means she doesn't need too in depth knowledge of the game but her voice kinda grates on me and she repeats things/says banal things half the time. sangwon would be a nice step up if he already is familiar with the game to a certain extent.

would you rather have him not doing anything like he was prior to this..? i'm glad all of the ex-mbc peeps apart from chulmin (who is not going to be involved in esports anymore) have gotten jobs again.
I wonder if MBC shutting down is going, and some people moving to GOM, I wonder if GOM is going to be producing more content now, different things and what not. Lets hope so!

only one moved to gom -.-
if you mean production crew then I don't know but its likely that they will continue to work for MBCmusic.

Indeed. One's a really good caster. djWHEAT basically invented the fucking concept.
Both were in esports for a very very long time (Quake/BW) DJwheat just isn't quite as good a caster, but this comparison definitely makes sense because both people have very similar backgrounds and love from the community.

You could argue that. It honestly depends on what game they are casting IMO.
GOM casters have always tried to overhype the situation.
MBC casters have always carried out their passion and excitement while casting. Thank god Park Sang Hyun is getting a job after MBCgame went down... Now for KCM...
Wow, this is a big fucking deal. When you have someone like this move over to to something new, people will move over with him. Recognizable voices are one of the best ways to gain instant recognition in a world where video and audio are so readily available. I don't even need to be a fan of BW to understand how good this will be for both Starcraft 2 and GOM.

That reminds me, I miss the SDM/Tastless combo =(
Noticed some english casters have tried to capture this with the shouting and dragging out words but it doesn't have the same effect.
off topic: Damn I wish I knew Korean and could understand what they're saying... their casting sounds so good! I guess I could start learning some... *adds learning korean to the mountain of ambitions
That is the best GG ever, and by extension, this means that he is one of the best people ever, in the whole world. Damnit, i'm jealous, if only I had a GG like that, i'd be swimming in ladies. But alas, there are only a few who can pull it off with such aplomb.
Hahahaha, a few months ago me and my good buddy/2s partner always used that youtube video as a "gg button" when we would play, awesome to see that he's an SC2 caster now Too bad I've never taken Korean
you can compare park sang hyun with djwheat with respect to their roles i guess but their abilities are really incomparable.
and this is coming from someone who can understand both english and korean. i wish you guys knew korean to know why i think this.
anyways, you guys probably won't understand how one caster can make such a difference, but this is the BIGGEST reason for me, incl. many koreans, to watch sc2 since gsl season 1 started.
park sang hyun truly is a gem. he's someone who makes you realize how commentary can make a game infinitely more entertaining.

Foreign scene still generally lacks the experience and professional training. Most of Korean casters often have a broadcasting background and are much more qualified for broader audience.
Going off this though, you can see why people would compare him to djwheat since there is lack of a real broadcaster in the scene.

I don't think enough people who switched to SC2 understand why the Korean casters for the most part were better than their english counter parts. You didn't need to know what they said just hearing their excitement gets you excited and pumped. Also its fun to try to guess what they are saying.
