For me, it is solely the number of players which makes it a special event, and not a true GSL Championship.

Every other championship has started with 64 or 32 players.

Definitely a special event imo. At 16 players I probably would have called it a true GSL Championship.

I can't even consider those things MVP or Polt won, so i sure as shit wouldn't consider this a GSL.

Well, in the end this entire thread is pointless, since it's just worthless speculation. You don't think World Championship or Super Tournament are REEEEAL GSLs? Too bad.

"Should we consider..." It doesn't matter what we consider. There's no point to this topic.

Super tournament was a real GSL. No one is arguing that. The point is how much emphasis do we put on winning this title?

Even the Super Tournament never really counted as a GSL championship. The most prestigious win will ALWAYS be a Code S championship.

GSL Championship is a GSL Championship.

You don't dispute WWE Championship wins, whether they won it by cashing in money in the bank, in a triple threat match or by beating the champion fair and square. Point is, they're a champion, and they're no less of a champion than anyone else who has held the title.

Like, can you imagine how ridiculous it would be for wrestling fans to say "NAH HE'S NOT A REAL CHAMPION, HE DOESN'T COUNT."

Arena of Legends is like equivalent to holding the Cruiserweight Championship. They're a champion, but not a big one. MLG, DreamHack and IPL would be the United States and Intercontinental Championships, GSTL would be Tag Team Championship and finally, all GSL events would be WWE/World Heavyweight Championship.

The Blizzard Cup feels more like an invitational event to the winners of other major tournaments.

By that standards though, the WC shouldn't stand as a GSL championship and the ST would. Oh well.

Technically Blizzard Cup had qualifiers, and exactly what you would call "harsh qualifiers", as they annonced at the start of the cup the list of tournaments someone had to win to be in: those aren't invited they qualified through those tournaments wins, whose player pool and run is as hard or harder than an upside-down.

Lol why did you have to use WWE as an analogy of all things.

Why not? Did it get the point across or not?

Money in the bank is beating the shit out of a bloody and bruised champion, by the way.

Code S/A will always be the only GSL championship that matters. Every other event feel like special events to me.
I can't be worried about that shit. Life goes on, man.

Its the mother of all special events. A big achievement to win it (like almost any tournament) buy a level down from a GSL title.

I consider blizzard cup the ultimate tournament. Its champions vs champions like Champions league in football. Just to haved qualified to this tournament meant you had todo somethign special.

really nice way to end the year..

10 world class players that can beat and lose to everyone gonna be awesome. Only problem I have with it is it bo1 in the group stage.
