ex-BW pros are crushing sc2 already. I can't believe you didn't know MC, MVP, Nestea, MKP, MMA, Fruitdealer, Bomber and others not named Moon and Lynx played BW for a living...

to be fair though its kinda a moot point. people playing sc2 in korea are the best, where did all these people with high quality starcraft skills come from? ofc they came from bw. with the history and the level of participation of BW in korea, it was never in any doubt that people who played sc2 for money would be from a broodwar background

It's inevitable sc2 inherited the starcraft name, what do you expect us to compare red alert 3 ?

Wouldn't it be more fair to compare Brood War's metagame at one year, versus SC2's metagame at one year. Especially considering SC2 is different enough that while it inherited the name, it definitely did not inherit the meta-game.

Different units, different fundamental A.I. control, different maps, different players, different time.

For better or worse, they will never be the same.

No that wouldn't be fair. You have to compare it in different periods. For example how was sc2 when it was mainly 1 base play compared to the same period in sc bw. I would say if the development cycle of bw we would be in like what? 2005? The period where macro really starts to become the best option above the rest.

and that's not what metagame means. metagame

Metagame can also mean the tactics and strategies players use at the highest level at a particular point in the game's life. You can google "current metagame" for some examples.

LOL. Sorry for being offtopic, but that's the worst argument ever. Google "difinately" for some examples on how to spell "definitely" :D

That's cool but I'm not making an argument, I'm only informing. I said to google it for examples of it used in the other definition. And if you actually did google "current metagame" you'd see results from TL as well as other forums for other competitive games.

I see no reason why I should be proving anything. I specifically stated to google for examples and not for proof.

If you studied linguistics you would understand that there it is wiser to explain how something is used that the 'correct' way to use it. For example, I am an English teacher, there at so many rules in English, but none of them stop students from talking or writing however they want...and I can still understand them...and their incorrect usage doesn't stop me from appreciating the way they express their thoughts.

You should read the above post by Ciryandor. Basically, SC2 inherited from Day 1 a lot of concepts that took players in BW years to develop. That thing called macro? Not existent day 1 of SC2. Emphasis on micro? Boxer showed the world what could be done with one dropship but that certainly didn't happen on release. Look at EVERY map designed today, they all have common features: balanced, an easy-to-take natural, balanced mineral patches, lots of expansions. These map features took YEARS to become commonplace in BW. SC2 didn't start out with zero knowledge on how to play an RTS game (even more one with THREE unique races).

Highly doubtful, and if he was, he would be top 5 GM easily, so I don't think you would even be able to play him.

Hahaha, it reminds me of the maps that came with Brood War. The nearest expo was ridiculously far away. Oh my gosh those maps were so bad, but the comp stomping when I first got BW was so fun .

He was 5-8 in the '10-'11 ProLeague season before he retired, and got knocked out in the first round of his last OSL. I'd honestly say he's at a lower level than when he did his StarLeague run.

I'd say that too. The fact of the matter is though, when he retired and switched to SC2, he was a pretty solid player. I'd even say he was underrated a little bit considering he was a Terran on the same dang team as Flash, the most overpowered player of all time.

Descriptive vs Prescriptive is an old debate. One can easily make a good case for prescriptive, even though the pendulum has swung to the other side recently.

I for one have been a ForGG fan ever since I chose terran back when I started to play SC. While I agree it's debatable whether he was significantly better than MVP in their last season, he's certainly a bigger name because: (1) He had an amazing MSL run during the modern era of SC (which I'd roughly define as after Savior's demise), and (2) he had striking style that looked unstoppably imbalanced when it worked. Those factors give him a bit more credibility than bw dinosaurs like Nada, Boxer, and July, or a mediocre proleague player with no accomplishments a la MVP. He had the creativity and skill to beat the best of all time in BroodWar: so assuming he puts the same amount of effort he likely will be able to do the same in a field comprised of presumably less talented players than the bw top dogs.
