Anyone saying that this guy was 'mediocre' in BW needs to get their heads out of their backsides. Having a positive (50%+) winrate during MAJOR events, ie ProLeagues & Starleagues does in fact mean that the player in question is way above average in Brood War. It's not the same as Starcraft 2 where you have maybe a hundred players total shuffling around in GSL (not to look down on SC2 or something, I think it's a great game and all, but the scene is TINY compared to BW in Korea); the levels of competition were absolutely incomparable. Simply qualifying for an individual league in Brood War was a massive feat, WINNING one, nevermind winning it by 3-0'ing Jaedong in his absolute prime is something very few had came even close to achieving.

A single MSL title is basically on the same level of accomplishment as what MVP or MC have done so far in their SC2 time; to say that this guy is 'mediocre' is simply stupid.

While I'm yet to see any of his games in SC2, I have very little doubts he will be a major contender in the upcoming GSL seasons if he takes it seriously; and considering he's a 20 year old who doesn't seem to be preoccupied with any other commitments at this time, I don't see why wouldn't he.

tl;dr - anyone saying that an msl champion wasn't "good" in brood war is a fucking moron; he'll do great in sc2

MVP, Nestea, MC, the players who have dominated GSL, they weren't BW pros, right?

None of them were top BW pros, they were all B-teamers and practice partners. Name one A-teamer who has switched and lived up to the hype.

Name one A-teamer who has switched over to begin with... I can't think of any. I mean, technically MVP was an A-teamer, but that's because his team had historically bad Terrans.

Just feel like throwing my 2 cents out there. Way I look at it is..he was good enough and smart enough of an RTS player to win a starleague and be used in proleague, which doesn't guarantee domination but surely means you have to think, combined with his record in the korean ladder, and being terran..its reasonable to assume he might do very very well. Thats all the stock I put into it.

This is huge. ForGG will definitely be the highest ranking A-teamer to have switched over to SC2. If any of you guys watched BW then you'll know that ForGG won proleague games and MVP rarely did. MVP better watch out because his throne as the terran king is about to be usurped.

Yeah. It's weird how players that weren't very good by BW pro standards are dominating and yet all the A-teamers that have switched have been huge flops, like... uhhh.. well, there was... umm.. oh dear.

Seriously. People said the same crap when MVP or ZergBong switched, and what impact have they had?

People didn't say jack about Zergbong switching he is 11-21 in BW. People did say MVP would become the greatest SC2 player (which right now I would say is true.)
Life has won two GSLs and a Blizzard Cup. NOT three GSLs.

MVP was an A-Team player, what are you talking about. He wasn't very good, but that's the point. He was a poor BW player yet he's been a dominant force in SC2. Same goes for NesTea.

There haven't been any A-teamers who have failed to live up to the hype because there haven't been any true A-teamers (besides MVP if you want to count him) that have made the switch.

Your logic makes no sense. The best players we have right now are almost solely composed of BW B-teamers and practice partners. "They achieved success in SC2 but not BW so its a different game and the guys that were destroying MC, NesTea, MVP, etc. in BW will not have any advantage when making the switch." You can't say this with any certainty at all let alone say it is proven.

Guemchi switched over for like a month, dunno if you would call him an A-teamer tho :D

I really hope that this is the start of a huge flood of BW players making the switch to SC2. With a large number of huge Gosu's maybe we can see some entertaining SC2 on a more regular basis.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Sang Ho (TSL_Killer) A-teamer before his retriement?

ForGG should totally be invited for a show-match at Blizzcon, he's good enough and he's got the hype. That's the only way he'll get to see his theme song performed live!

Look at his standard league games post 2009. And then look at his standard league games post 2009 without the map "Fortress".

neither is over 50%

For the longest time fOrGG didn't go by that aka in BW either, he played under Never_V_ for like the last few years of his career before his retirement. The community grew attached to the original fOrGG so they kept using it. People can choose to continue referring to him by the original fOrGG or Fin, it doesn't really matter (though I'll always use fOrGG personally).

ForGG was not the most accomplished player currently playing sc2 but he certainly was the most skilled. Nestea and MC were nobodies and July, Nada and Boxer were old timers who weren't able to compete with the younger A-teamers. I don't think any other current SC2 player would be able to take games off Flash and Jaedong. ForGG eliminated both to win his MSL.
