My prediction: incontrol and other manly men of sorts were invited to see if the effects of having cute girls present more often in tournaments would increase viewership. This being said, it was successful and true. The NASL will be host so several bikini models helping the players into thier booths during the finals and announcing their names and what not during the regular season. or it could just be another tournament or sponsorship or something, but id like to hope for the first one.

I don't actually recognize Chobot in any of these pictures. I must say that some sort of announcement like this in cooperation with IGN certainly seems uncharacteristic, but good nonetheless. I think their willingness to expose the growing Starcraft II professional scene to IGN's more mainstream audience will certainly generate some buzz in varying demographics.

Also, did IGN just hire Root's manager? http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/fclnz/i_am_the_managing_director_for_root_gaming_ama/ So it's ROOTedward. Then look at the top of the post here: http://www.ign.com/blogs/ignedward/2011/03/19/igns-announcement-of-an-announcement/ "Player Card" "Level 4" "rootedward" "IGNedward Member Since: March 12, 2011" So, yeah, something "big" is going on, in addition to Incontrol being in San Francisco. She going to interview everyone on skype? No clue, she already seems to be interviewing some of the people apart of the Starcraft 2 community and who knows? I have no idea what they plan to do, but this whole thing corresponding to her special project and her obviously being in those pictures suggests something. Maybe she'll show up when they have an actual location for the tournament. I mean look at the GSL, they have a good looking and probably relatively articulate woman (don't speak Korean) as the face of their broadcasting team for a reason. Even though I doubt Chobot keeps in touch with SC2 and would become a full time commentator. Having her do interviews (however they manage it) and be at the actual "lan" event wouldn't be a bad idea at all. She's good at interviewing, is good looking, articulate and obviously enjoys gaming.

Perhaps the $400,000 is spread across a number of contributors who will be revealed over time. IGN and Blizzard would definitely help make such a grand initial sum for the NASL understandable. A bit less shocking then a very confident investment from an entrepreneur.

They have been posting content related to Starcraft2 for a while though. Usually games get updates if the developer pumps out new content or something, but its kind of rare for them to keep up with a game in terms of community development (playstyles) or mentalities of losing or something like that. Probably nothing to look into too much but, certainly something to consider.

The timing might suggest something with NASL, but you'd think they'd announce something like that sooner, unless they're just a sponsor. On March 20 2011 16:08 GenoZStriker wrote: Chances are that HD's tournament is simply being cast at IGN (replays) and will be posted on their website, since IGN is a main stream gaming site. This seems pretty likely since all the players in the photos are playing in HD's tournament, and he said the games would likely be played this past week. The only thing that doesn't fit is that HD said the games would be on his Youtube channel, but that's fairly minor. + Show Spoiler + The Infested Archon also intends on taking full legal action on this egregious theft of the announcement of an announcement trademark

It is certainly very nice that IGN are picking up StarCraft 2 but I'd expect anyone on TeamLiquid would say that. April is fast approaching and iNcontroL and Gretorp seem to have become better at casting since the Clash of the Titans a few weeks ago if the GCPL final is anything to go by. I hope your picking up tips from GSL as they have it pretty much set (technical issues aside) for presentation, I realise the tournament is online (well, technically so is the GSL but you get the drift) but things still apply such as player interviews, graphics, observer, music, casting quality, bracket updates, VOD's access, stream access, well pretty much everything is top notch. P.S. Speak to your game reviewer division and stop rating mediocre games at 8 or so, the average of 1-10 is 5, rate more average games a 5 (like Dragon Age 2).

Where are the good old days where people just came out and announced what they wanted to announce without teasing you all the time.( Well whatever its still great to see big names getting involved in the scene.

I really feel like this is bordering on the edge of negative publicity, personally.

Thanks for all of your comments about our upcoming announcement. We did not do this to just lead people on and be a tease - we only did this because of the amount of people who came to IGN this past weekend. News and pictures regarding this was going to get out sooner or later so we just wanted to let you know from an official source that something very cool is coming down the pipe. Thanks!

Would make sense to use IGN's popularity in the gaming scene to promote their tournament. ![]() Would not surprise me if they used the opportunity to conduct some interviews and create a sort of "special report" article, while the guys were there.

Does anyone know what timezone IGN is in and could find out by that? I'd take a random stab and go PST, so it's 7:41am over there right now. It may increase viewership, but cute girls around Starcraft 2 pro-gamers from my experience usually generate awkwardness. Anyone remember IEM when MorroW and IdrA came out onto the stage with Razer girls? To me it just looked weird and awkward haha. ![]() But, that was the best part... Made me watch.

It is pretty huge, would be not dissimilar to calling this competition NASL (North American Soccer League?)
