Also the games were much more violent back then, I think I am right in saying that the first college football game was played under the Association football rules of the time and had a violent flying V in it (Soccer being the shortened way of saying association). Around 1860-70 though this is when the Football Association and Rugby Union (Which again split into Rugby League) were formed and many of the rules that make up the modern game were ratified. But there were organised games played dating back much further at the universities such as Rugby, It was in 1823 at Rugby where William Webb Ellis dared to pick up the ball and run with it. Although if you start looking at Baseballs history with Rounders/Stoolball then that also goes back a hell of a long way obviously again though rules are different to the modern baseball game. | ||
